Because doctors take one class on nutrition. Doctors are useless in the realm of weight loss. My "doctor" never paid attention to my pre-diabetic glucose levels and stared at me with a blank face when I spoke on nutrition knowledge that I learned. Specialists are good, family doctors...not so much.

For anyone who can eat everything in moderation, I stand up and applaud. Because I can not. Either I eat everything in the universe, or I just stick to steak. Eating fruit leads me to pie and cakes, and pie takes me to ifood and I never leave, and I gain all the weight at record speed.

Great video Lillie! I just reached a year of keto/carni and I feel amazing but I tend to disagree with the hardcore strict carnivores that it's absolutely necessary for optimal health. I'm almost always in ketosis but sometimes I'll eat 30-70g of carb a day from kefir, sweet potato, carrots, fruits, or even honey. But it's rare, maybe once a week. I think the key many people could take from keto and carnivore even if they don't go strict is prioritize protein and fat, and look at carbs as more of a supplement to the diet
@LillieKane
@LillieKane Жыл бұрын
Awesome! Congrats on a year and feeling stellar! I know some people have to be strict, especially abstainers, and then other people want to be strict but then there’s others who aren’t in that same position. So sometimes I feel I’m in a tough spot because in my videos I’m trying to help both audiences of people and hopefully I can communicate that well enough that there are these different categories of people based on where they are in their health journey. Thanks for sharing, have a delicious week!

Each individual is a science project. Just about every Dr who supports keto or carnivore has said one has to figure out what works for each person. My wife has struggled long time with weight loss etc.. look on her face when she told me she was down 18lbs in about 3 4 weeks. Was priceless. Now she not doing struct keto more of a dirty keto. But it is working. Thanks Lillie great information. Keep up the Jokes. Nothing better then simple smile on one's face to get day started. Best wishes.

from july 11th i went strict carnivore because never in my life i managed to stick to other diets. i was alway hungry. i started eating pork (here it's cheap), chicken, eggs and butter. i eat until i feel satiated. i went from 229 lbs to 207 in less than a month. my job requires a lot of physical strength and stamina (almost comparable to going to gym) and today i look a lot leaner and i'm waking up in the morning fully rested. when i'll reach my weight goal (176) i'm not going back to the crap i ate before no matter how tasty it is

One factor is definitely eating enough nutrient-dense foods that your body relaxes and decides to let go of weight, as a fifty-year-old who has eaten 1,000 calories or less of her entire life yet been 20 lb overweight, I have just passed month 7 of eating sometimes twice as much carnivore food. My body has finally released about 5 lb eating twice as much food. It's very interesting and everyone is so different, Lily we really appreciate your insights.

@@birgitk6518 I never realized I was eating that little till I got a food app. I had a major surgery in 2019 and forced about 500 calories a day down for a month and lost 4 lbs. Today I've had 800 which is a huge fail but it's the best I can do. I usually do better. Incidentally I don't have a thyroid so that might be a factor. I read your comment twice. This is me. Thyroid problems, I've eaten 1200 calories a day my whole life otherwise I'd get fat (despite working out with weights and being fit). Here I am, now 60 (still strong for my age), but I eat about 1000 calories a day. I don't count, I just know after being programmed to count back in the 80s. Anyhow I'm carnivore now, but still can't seem to eat more without gaining weight, and completely losing my appetite. What things did you do to fix this? I'm now going to watch this video.

@@winniecash1654 It's still a struggle. I comment on these videos often with my story and frankly take a lot of crap because people just don't believe we could eat so little and still have excess body fat. Some days I get 1000 calories. Some successful days I get 2200. I literally have to force myself to eat and I hate that. I know some folks add a bit of fruit to stimulate hunger. I do a 500 calorie decaf to start things off. I wish I had a good answer sis. I'll keep being animal based because I healed all the things.

You are hilarious and oh so cute! Thanks for this great, realistic video full of great information! I've been carnivore with less than 10 grams of carbs a day for three years. When I lost my energy and started having gut issues, I went to see my acupuncturist. She said my "fire" had gone out. My body was damp. Knowing that I don't eat a lot of carbs, she had me add one root food to my diet per week. None of them have caused me issues (carrots, squash, pumpkin, radishes ... all cooked). I'd been under eating for a long time. I'm regaining energy and I'm definitely sleeping better. Enjoyed this video enormously!

You really, really know this stuff, respect. I've been researching this health/food topic for years and you present it perfectly. If someone has low energy/chronic fatigue on keto, they might want to check their thyroid gland (could be also high cortisol, it ruins the hormonal balance) and add more good carbs to their diet as you mentioned.

Thank you so much for this! This is JUST what I was looking for. About 2 weeks ago I jumped fully into carnivore plus intermittent fasting. I did it to help me with cravings. Now, at the beginning of my third week, my fatigue, lack of strength and terrible headaches have been absolutely debilitating. I also lost 4 pounds in 2 weeks (from 122 to 118 at 5' 9"-- not good). I needed some carbs to bring me back to feeling like a person again and to stop me from losing too much weight. I think I'll stick with a bit of fruit and honey moving forward. Again, thanks so much!

Look into your cortisol levels or your thyroid, I added a bit of carbs and I am feeling much better, the fatigue is gone. Although having a fatigue while switching from carbs to fats as a source of energy is normal for the first few weeks of keto, after that I felt amazing, but now I realized it is time to add the carbs.

@@LillieKane thanks for your response Lily. Just a little bit of background about me and I think you’ll have a better understanding of my response. I’ve been a lifelong, non-drinker, non-smoker, non-drug and elite athlete, gymnast, as a national champion in high school and onto NCAA championship teams along with our Olympians. The problem is I’ve always been in shape and stayed in shape, but I came to realize that since I was eight years old, I’ve been addicted to sugar. Was diagnosed with metabolic syndrome, hyper insulinemia and a list of health related issues that have all completely gone away since I went full-blown carnivore a year ago. Today I am a cross fitter and amateur cyclist and have been identified as a lean mass hyper responder. I weigh 145 pounds I’m 5 feet eight and extremely lean. I’m 69 years old Going on 40 years old if you know what I mean. The wonderful thing is that I outperform many of my cyclists that are half my age and don’t even need to refuel while I am in the saddle due to being fat adapted, and in ketosis. I feel great, and will continue on this way of life for the rest of my life. My blood work is absolutely fantastic except for LDL and total cholesterol but I don’t worry about those due to the fact that I’m sure you realize that the standard American diet and the way that big Pharma and big food and current medical metrics all have it wrong. I have a very low CAC score, and my metabolic profile looks great.

I have totally changed my view, and I’m impressed that you can actually see the positives of both carbs and low carbs. I’ve tried both and function much better in high (200-500g/day) carb diets. If I lower my carbs I haven’t got energy for both cardio and weights. I’ve also lost weight on high carb and gained on zero carbs, so calories are much more important than the specific diet. Just see that you don’t go to low on fats! Keep it up, you look great!

I love how you present your information, it's so helpful. I'm a newbie, just experimenting with a carnivore-ish way of eating (don't like the word "diet" .. as someone that used to be anorexic). My experience has taught me that I've likely been malnourished most of my life (especially when I was vegan). Definitely wasn't getting enough high-quality protein. On the flipside, I experienced some scary stuff just eating meat only. Like constipation. I used to eat lots of veggie and oatmeal. So I just never had that BM issue before. Also, joint paint. Yikes, that's some awful stuff. Maybe I wasn't "doing it right," but I don't think any way of eating should be so strict. It shouldn't eliminate foods that are clearly meant to be eaten (yummy and packed with nutrients). And you really shouldn't have to take supps (although it can be a good thing here and there) to avoid pain/illness. So what I'm now experimenting with is eating half the veggies I used to eat, rather than none. And I never really ate that many fruits before, but I ain't givin' up wonderful berries. Or real/raw honey. And I'm still experimenting with (mostly whole) grains (and alternative grains). But having them much less (I stopped eating bread/pasta yrs ago). Anyhoo, I learn so much watching your videos, and love your dad jokes, ha. I really don't think most people could make them as entertaining as you do.

@4:00 Ma'am I have great respect for you and your channel however I don't feel like you or anyone else should be making a generalized statement that you believe applies to all people. For example for me calories in calories out does not work. I'm a Computer Engineer in Silicon Valley so trust me I love numbers I track numbers and I found through research and testing with my body that calories in calories out is not a linear function. For example if I consumed 400 calories of protein it does something different in my body than if I consumed 400 calories of carbohydrates or 400 calories of fat. Each of them causes different metabolic reactions they don't all produce the same effect. I can eat an excess of protein and not gain a pound however if I eat an excess of carbohydrates I can assure you I will gain weight and I will also gain weight but much less if I have a excess of fat. This is why I adopted a low carbohydrate Keto program it seemed to be best for my body's metabolism.

Great video! I am thinking it is all about HPLC … which is high protein and low carb. For me I transitioned from LCHF to HPLC. The journey allowed me to lose 75 lbs and keep it off now for 3 years. Prioritizing protein now has helped me gain more lean muscle and I am never hungry. I will admit I do omad and fast for longer periods maybe once a quarter. My protein at about 140 grams is mainly salmon, sardines, herring, tuna, chicken and biltong. Fats at about 50-75grams come from the my protein sources, avocados and high oleic peanut butter. So mainly monounsaturated fats. Carbs I try to get around 50 grams. I do cycle lower around 20 but bump up as I will start to get cramps and twitchy muscles in my legs. I sprout peas, lentils and garbanzos as my main added source of carbs. I have been refining what I eat as I go and listen to my body. Moving to a higher protein focused diet has taken my physical health and strength to a whole new level. Best shape of my 60 years on this earth with 60 to go!

I think the key to health is eat a whole foods diet approach. Some people can eat a lot of fruit, nuts and starchy veggies. Others have to be closer to carnivore. Do what's best for you as an individual for optimal health. I say I'm animal based because I eat mostly meat and animal products, but throw in some variety once in awhile. Eating mostly meat has helped me recognize which foods will cause issues so I avoid them.

I have tried both, carnivore and prometabolic eating . And I can say eating carbs such as oats, whole grain pasta, buckwheat, apple a day, animal protein, cottage cheese. Made me lose weight in fact made my body very lean and defined . On carnivore I’m more chunkier .

Great video. Comprehensive and straight forward. 50ish grams of carbs seems optimal for me too. I have to use things with straight up glucose because I can’t tolerate fibre and fructose or too much dairy. Maple syrup is a good one for me, and if I am feeling up to some raw milk I’m never upset by adding a few table spoons of maple to it. 🤤

Just the video I needed! Thank you! I've been struggling with binge eating on a SAD diet after 6 years of an unhealthy vegan diet. The times I've tried being carnivore I failed within 1 week due to very uncomfortable keto-flu symptoms, distaste for animal fat, lack of discipline, etc and it's been the same just trying to simply eat in a deficit & prioritize protein. I'm going to give the animal + fruit diet a go combined with experimenting with Tirzepatide. I'm hoping the appetite suppression will help me stick to healthy foods for some time, slim down, and adapt easier to the diet for a long-term game-plan for when I no longer feel the need to use an appetite suppressant. (I'm not recommending anyone else do this without a doctor btw!)

I consider myself carnivore even if I dont follow "the rules". I was not eating enough with just bbbe and adding some cucumbers to my meals really made a big difference in my appetite!

It seems more like guidelines then hard rules unless you feel worse when deviating from it. I'm going to try and follow them more closely to experiment on the results before deciding on loosening such restrictions since while I do feel better overall now I want to see how far I can go. Like say eating things on the side that's truly beneficial to my overall health with trace minerals and such that seem to be only present or more readily available in plants.

Vegan or carnivore you gotta limit the processed carbs and increase the protein.

Lillie - thank you so much for the content. When you mentioned how folks are reporting zero carb diet helps for people with OCD, is this actual OCD (intrusive thoughts/compulsions) or "OCD" (aka perfectionism and needing things in order, not the actual medical definition)?

Another elimination diet people can try that isn’t as strict is a low fodmap diet. Foods with higher fodmaps tend to cause more digestive problems for people than foods with low fodmaps.

A person asked yesterday in a reddit sub, "when I eat a meal consisting of complex carbs, why am I still hungry?" Because he ate a meal consisting of almost only carbs. I suggested he swapped some of the carbs with protein.

Lillie, your zero carb cons is exactly the same cons I have on zero carb. I’ve found that anywhere from 50-70 grams of carbs works perfectly for me to reduce all of those zero carb cons.

It’s great your way of eating works for you and your clients and is similar to the way I like to eat too. It doesn’t work for everyone though . I know someone who tried your type of diet. Her BP shot through the roof, she developed a constant headache and irregular heartbeat. In addition to all that her RA flared up so badly she could hardly walk. A whole food plant based diet is what works for her although it’s not low fat since she eat some avocado and nuts.

I disagree, the most important factor to losing weight is having your insulin level low enough to use your stored energy for more time than it is high enough to store energy. This is where the term "internal starvation" comes in. Keep insulin high enough, your body will be shuttling extra energy into storage at the expense of starving your body of the opportunity to use that energy for fuel. Unfortunately, it is so bio individual that no one can say where the limits are.
