I really like how you talk about other ways to add them because like myself I have an all in one. I'm actually running a canister (beginner) still with a UV steralizer inside . Thanks for sharing!

I spent 10 years building a tank just to make a mandarin goby pod haven. The refugeum is a very interesting concept. Manufacturer says the tigger pods will not reproduce but the apex ones will.

Will be interested in seeing if they take hold in the refugium. For me they didn't seem to take off until I added rubble rock and would see much more roaming around versus having just chaeto in the fuge.

I think pods could be very beneficial with copepods and the bigger amphipods populating the live rocks. With a large population in the rocks probably can keep algae growth down. Reducing detritus in the tiny cracks and crevices of the live rock and they themselves feeding the bacteria by their further broken down waste and stirring things up. At least that's what i take away from reading about these tiny crustaceans. Has anyone done a study on that?

Had been buying bottles of Reef Nutrition tigger pods for my Mandarin dragonett like a drug addict so he won't starve. 😳 Then just lately I have trained him to take live brine from a target feeder, which he really goes crazy for. Anyhow I also started a 2 gallon tank within the last 3 weeks of tigger pods and its going really well I should say. I have an explosion of these pods now in the small tank. Though with all the bottles I have added in the last few months to my display aquarium ( no sump) ,I have yet to see any explosive population of either tigger or tisbe in there. I have two clowns and a Royal gramma that snap them up like French fries the minute I put them in even when the aquarium lights are off . They see them even in dim lighting. 😪

Have been watching your videos for a long time now. I have an aio with a fuge in the second compartment. I have added a captive bred mandarin from biota and started adding pods. How often should I replenish these pods? My mandarin is tiny atm

Coralline won’t grow if your calcium is below 400. I had my tank for over 6 months and didn’t see any coraline grow. After I got the water lab tested I saw my calcium at 350 and started dosing I saw some growth. After a week coraline started to growing on the plexiglass. Rocks started to get pink spots and now after 2 months of keeping calcium at 480 ppm the Caroline is starting to populate. Only thing I did is add snails and blue leg crabs with pink coroline on their shells. I might add purple coroline so I get both colors. Coroline is easy to grow
@houseofsharpeis93663 жыл бұрын
Why chase coralline? It will show up no matter how hard you try to keep it out and now as it spreads in an early tank it’s eating calc and alk. Which now increases depletion instead of your corals doing that.

How much per bottle?. How big are the bottles?. Ever use amphipods?. Mix copepods and amphipods?
@reefnutrition84424 жыл бұрын
Tigger-Pods and Apex-Pods are $25 a bottle (minimum). Tigger-Pods are Tigriopus californicus species. There are approximately 3,000 per 6 oz. bottle. Apex-Pods are Apocyclops panamensis species. There are approximately 2,000 per 6 oz. bottle. We don't culture amphipods, but we are considering it. Thanks for posting you questions here. Have a great day.

For this 50g mode aquarium is the sump that comes with the tank able to run a refugium in? Also is the 50g referring to display volume or system volume? Doesn't specify on Mode website.
@eatsleepreef95654 жыл бұрын
Yes the stock sump has a very nice size fuge about 10x10”. The 50 is tank volume along not counting sump.
@MrMx2974 жыл бұрын
Would the 50g with that size of fuge be sufficient size to sustain enough pods for a mandarin? I would seed the tank and allow tank to mature before ever getting the mandarin. I also would get a captive bred mandarin so hopefully can feed it frozen and pellets. Thoughts please.
@desireerudolph59924 жыл бұрын
@@MrMx297 also consider if you have other fish that will compete with mandarins for pods. I am hoping to be able to have a good pod population so that I can have a dragonet but right now my firefish are happily munching pods ALLLLLLL day long. The one will sometimes eat offered foods but the other one completely ignores offered foods (with the exception of chopped clams that he will come eat) and strictly hunts the pods. So I will have to watch and hopefully I can get a pod population to the point that I can have both the dragonet and the firefish fat and happy eating their pods.
@MrMx2974 жыл бұрын
@@desireerudolph5992 yea I kinda plan to have a wrasse as well prolly before the mandarin and that's almost a gaurantee that it will munch on pods to.

Does adding pods to a tank like my nuvo 60 without a refugium have any benefit?
@semisuccessfulreefer2204 жыл бұрын
For sure
@desireerudolph59924 жыл бұрын
Yes, but it will be harder for the pods to become a self sustaining population. The refugium gives them space to breed and grow without predation from fish. To keep population going without refugium you will likely need to periodically add some. Likely a few will escape predation in the rockwork but not likely great numbers.
@rja97842 жыл бұрын
You don’t need a refugium for copepods to survive
