The thing is there's always going to be a lack of communication if they rely so heavily on their algorithms which seems unlikely would be looking at notes left by a human. The issue is that such a big thing like suspending an account should be looked into on a case by case basis. And that goes with lots of ebay issues, even most people you speak to there don't understand an issue properly and just follow a box ticking process, it's hard to find someone that uses their own judgment.

Most of the suspensions and flagged (dropshipper) accounts are done by their algorithms without any human interventions whatsoever. Until you call them, their reps have no idea what happened to you, and most of these reps have no power to overturn any of it. However, in some instances it helps to ask for a supervisor or to be transferred to another department.

Things like this make me look at eBay as a stepping-stone for making money in the short term, not a place to set up shop for good. They lack respect for sellers. This is my biggest fear as an eBay seller. I have a employees whose families depend on the paycheck they earn and a warehouse that I rent along with tens of thousands of dollars tied up in inventory; a suspension would quickly sink my business as almost 100% of what I sell is on eBay. Warnings and corrective advice would be so greatly appreciated rather than losing sleep that someone might make a mistake that could cost us the business. We are very careful and would never intentionally break rules. We do understand. Also, sellers that have hundreds or in my case thousands of listings have all their items shut down while a small seller might have only a few. Theses full suspension punishments are draconian to larger sellers with years of experience and honest selling. Thank you for bringing this to their attention.

Interesting video. Their flagging is similar to credit card security decline activities. I used to work for a US Gov agency that responds to emergencies. We would contact the credit card vendors ahead of our departure with arrival/departure dates, cities we expected to buy in, raised our limits (very) high and requested that notes be put on our accounts to avoid declines. Sure enough, we would have an $18k purchase lined up, tieing up the store manager's time, and our card would be declined. We would have to go through the whole thing again; they told us these were random protection actions. Now I see that it's AI and not a fraud prevention department that can read comments. You're probably right; no comments are ever entered. It would be fun to ask them to read the comments back to you and see if they can.

EBay pulled this on me 8 years ago. Destroyed my business. Talked to a very arrogant and rude rep that told me that Ebay will never allow a seller like me on the platform and I will never be allowed back. I did nothing. It was because I had another account that I started in the early days of Ebay and never used it. BTW I had started a second account by the advice of an E bay rep when I had technical issues. They would not work with me on this issue. I went out of business because I was a fool and had my business rely only on Ebay. 5 years later I get my selling status, out of the blue, reinstated. Have no idea why. I start getting E mails from E bay asking me to start listing again. That will never happen. I am getting ready to relaunch my business again. And I'm going to be doing it bigger. One major change this time. My product will NOT be sold on E bay. Too many other ways of e-commerce these days. Best way to fix this problem. Do not do business with E bay. But if you do. DO NOT have it be your main form of selling. Set yourself up for if they pull thier crap on you. And they will. Have many other ways of selling. They are never going to change. They will do this again to you. You should start looking for other ways of selling and getting yourselves not reliant on E bay. The message is NOT getting there. Be very careful. Do not trust.

eBay customer service is awful in my opinion...our business account was hacked just over a year ago by hackers who changed our email address (an L to an i) on some of our best selling listings, and due to the high turnover and the low value of each individual order, about £700 was syphoned from payments via PayPal from our eBay account over several weeks before we noticed...our password was a very secure one that we were convinced it was compromised inside of eBay, both eBay and PayPal said it was not their responsibility, but each other’s! Despite reporting it the action fraud (who we never heard back from) we never recovered the stolen money. We now use a 2 step Verification to sign in and would urge other sellers to protect their accounts as you are very much on your own if your account is compromised

There is eBay for Business on Facebook. I remember Lonnie from The Shed got an issue sorted out through them when they got no joy from CS. Not sure if that’s just a service for the US though.

They literally said “we partner closely With our policy teams and this is going directly back to them”?? Well I bloody well hope they “partner” with their own “policy team”!!! And Who else would they partner with and where else would they send this feedback to if not to their own policy team for gosh sake. Sounds like a politician double talk if you ask me

I think that was her way of saying she wasn't some random customer service person that she works directly with the people that can make changes. So a conversation with her has a better chance of making a difference.

I’m surprised they don’t “reach out” to their policy teams instead of “partnering” with them. Perhaps they need to look at the whole thing through a different lens.

Hi guys, I'm a former powerseller going back decades but only sell the odd item on eBay now. The last item sold was a complete nightmare. The buyer claimed they'd recieved a different item than listed. I called eBay and stated item sent was as advertised but if buyer wanted a refund to return it but they refused. eBay advised not to worry and my call was noted only to issue a full refund days later to the buyer. It left me £60 out if pocket and without the item. No more eBay selling for me.

I work in customer care for a big company, I can assure you that your conversation ends with that person. We are employed specifically to quash issues, plicate customers and ensure problems do not have to go higher up the chain, that is the ultimate goal. We can apologise, empathise, say all the right things but even if they say that they personally want changes as well, they are nothing to do with the department that actually makes changes. If you suddenly started to threaten them with loss of earnings and a legal case, with evidence of those customers that contacted you and could not pay, sales diving from an average of 40 a day to 0...then all of a sudden it gets pushed to someone that has to actually respond with action. I had someone listing a caravan using my account fraudulently, I changed my password and details, my phone number was confirmed on the account and I had my account verified over and over, I had informed eBay directly but someone still had access and was repeatedly putting up listings of items I did not have over a period of a year. My account was never once restricted. But then I try to sell 1 old elf on the shelf doll that you we no longer needed? Suddenly the account has commited counterfeit fraud and my account was restricted to NO SELLING for an entire year with no opportunity of appeal. Tell me eBay is looking after sellers best interests because I don't see how. If eBay is reading these comments, take note that I still believe your platform does not value its sellers and that you do not offer adequate protection for sellers, regardless of what nic and Andrea say. I will not believe you are making changes until I actually see them and i won't be holding my breath waiting. There are thousands of stories of sellers losing their accounts over bogus claims - fake counterfeit claims, fake buyer claims, "security issues" etc. You practices are completely shady when you clearly only value the buyers.

They can't be specific because they don't know. It would be done by AI which doesn't explain what it detected. They can only go by what they suspect might be triggering it.

I’ve had the same my eBay account was hacked 2 years ago I’d never sold anything ever and suddenly I’d sold an expensive camera for £800 ! The buyer contacted me with regards to delivery so I called eBay and they called me back from the states which I was flabbergasted about. It was sorted within 24hrs now I’ve started selling some odds and ends so I can see both sides but always in these incidences they need to be careful in generic letters/emails etc cheers 🍻

A slightly different take... The issue here ultimately is the people who falsely bid on the 60K cartridge. A bid should be binding. Ebay should have pressed the 60K bidder to pay and when they didn't, put a black mark on THEIR account. They then work their way back through the bid list and mark up everyone. Bidding for a laugh is the same as people who win an auction and don't pay. Ebay should take that seriously.
@paradoxpicker77933 жыл бұрын
but the auction was ended before it finished. if the seller ends an auction, you cant expect ebay to force a bidder to pay. (obviously the bidder was a total prat anyway though)

"don't put all your eggs in one basket" at last someone said it! I work in IT and this saying is as old as the hills, and so very true! My business doesnt depend on Ebay, theres a good reason for that, my advise would be to be very careful with any "platform".

The eBay reb you spoke to mentioned COVID price gouging. For years before covid, I had some multi-quantity listings in the related categories and I found eBay's approach to dealing with price gouging both frustrating and short sighted. Here in the US there was an immediate shortage of face masks, toilet paper, antibacterial soap, etc. eBay's reaction was to randomly flag and pull listings from long time Top-Rated Sellers, even the old listings that were not bumped in price. But at the same time some (Not All) of mine came down, I received heavy handed messages to warn against price gouging, I found they never pulled down some of the worst offending listings in the same categories as mine. Listings were still up month later, from new selling accounts with prices 4-6 times the norm. I got into this, via messaging, with a few eBay staffers because as time passed they said only "approved" sellers would be allowed to sell in those categories. Since I really felt eBay should be using its distribution ability to get every critically needed item Sellers could source out into the market (rather than restrict them), so short falls could be shipped out where they were needed. I even offered to sell at a loss, but it made no difference. They effently allowed "trusted approved Sellers" to list. So I asked how to move ahead and get approved to sell. Their answer was typically eBay doublespeak. They stated there was no approval process currently in place. So the logical question was who was doing the approving and at what level a Mega Seller was getting the green light, if there was no Approval Process. In typical eBay fashion, it all seemed wrong. I pointed out that many those non e-commerce Small Business that were closing their doors actually had stock sitting in storage closets, on shelves , or pallets of critically needed items, that even if their doors were closed, could be shifted on-line to get them out to a Grandma who needed a pack of Depends, a Teen Girl who needed Sanitary Napkins or some front line worker who was out of PPE. They just ignored it, deciding that shutting down the selling those needed items, for all but the Mega Sellers and new accounts popping up with Zero Feedback, was the safest way for eBay to move forward and not be accused of Price Gouging. It was better to not sell, then to create an effective system to deal with any price gouging.

Being cynical can't be helped as many of these large corporations make promises during these calls with nothing ever changing. Amazon is another perfect example of this. I do believe that there are some employees who truly care, take whatever measures withing their capabilities to help, yet are still unheard. It seems that the only time corrections to a particular situation truly occur are when the attention of upper management are finally acquired. Sadly it seems there needs to be a black eye given for this to even happen, usually through viral media. I am glad you have it resolved for the moment, and I will watch for any Ebay changes, but will not get my hopes up. Thanks for the follow up!

Hi Nic & Andrea. I am a long time subscriber and part time reseller. Your professionalism is always hugely impressive, in terms of your business and your social media output. You also come across as thoroughtly decent people. I would just like to add a devil's advocate's opinion to the account suspension topic. I agree with your conclusions concernng the unfairness and apparent disregard Ebay has shown to you and others, however, I feel that it has to be considered that Ebay is not a public utility. It is a 'for profit' business. All of their actions are based on commercial considerations. If their unfair treatment of sellers threatens their business model they will do something to rectify. If unfair treatment of sellers does not threaten their revenue I have no doubt they would have no qualms in destroying small businesses. I m not saying this is right, just pointing out that there is inherent risk when our businesses rely on a private company such as ebay for our livlihoods. We are at the mercy of their whims, regardless of fairness or system errors on their part. All actions are determined by their commercial requirements. Discuss.....

So from 2016 to dec 2019 I had a ebay busines doing 3-500 orders a day. In fact ebay sent us an announcement that we were doing very well in terms of volume of feedback etc. They took down our account on the basis a product we created and sold for 3 years did not follow uk law and that a government body told them to take us down. With no appeals process. I got an official statement from the government body that they did not investigate us, our products were not illegal and that they made no such communication with ebay. 3 years of hard work, starting from the ground up meant I had to let go of staff, two offices and I ended up losing my rented house as I had no means of an income. Of course its my fault i had all my eggs in one basket well i also had an amazon account and im sure you all know well enough that on amazon chinese sellers have back door access to through you off your own listings and amazon ask for you supplier invoices to then buy the product en masse or simply ban you and release their own version. I wish you the best of luck but they are not to be trusted.

The trouble is your a small fish in a big sea. So no matter what issues you have with them you'll always be just a number amongst millions of other numbers. They will always generalise rather than work with individual members. The original eBay ethos was to work with the sellers being the most important of the members. Now the pendulum has swung to the buyers. The 'buyers guarantee' has put the sellers at a great disadvantage. Now eBay will almost always side with the buyers, even if they know that it's a scam claim. I really wish that another seller platform would take over the reins from this now one sided & unfair company...

The real business problem is that is that as a business entity , there are layers of managers or automatic computer algorithms or in various countries various bureaucracies who don’t take responsibility or who have no power to change or do anything real and so ebay will ultimately fail...this is obvious .. These too big companies are all destined for failure because they are too big and unable to change direction or amend problems once a policy has been set by someone in the company nameless and faceless and powerless . It’s impossible to speak to a multifaceted entity, may as well speak to the sea. Police teams?? What crap !

15:32 I am surprised they are surprised. Completely out of touch with their customers that they claim to represent and have their best interests at heart. What does this remind me of... Oh yes, politicians. Now this for me sums up Ebay- a monopoly that has no regard for their customers. I always say Ebay is a marriage of convenience- once I reach certain milestones I'm off.

I wouldn't hold your breath tbh! From my experience of eBay, they seem to spend far more time and energy, coming up with new and stupid ideas and design changes, than they do fixing existing bugs. We have been selling on eBay for years and do hundreds of thousands of pounds a year on the platform. Recently we had dozens of our listings removed by eBay for “selling counterfeit items”, however we are 100% certain our items (in this instance phone cases) are genuine as they are sourced directly from well known and global retailers. When contacting eBay they couldn’t tell us anything about why, I can only assume it was an attack from one of our competitors trying to remove our items, almost seems as if eBay seems to encourage this behaviour!

I once had an issue with my bank account when they stopped me making a purchase from apple due to it being based in Luxembourg. They phoned me within 5 minutes of stopping the transaction. Brilliant system. Making sure someone wasn’t trying to use my account. Think eBay need to learn systems are in place with other organisations without putting restrictions onto account. It was only a £15 purchase too.

Lip service by eBay! I'm sorry you/we have to go through this all the time! Only the bigger YT channels like yourself get any attention to issues. Not going after you at all, just they tend to assure channels like yours the "info" you want to hear & you make video's of the aftermath. So they fix your issues, but ignore most. I've been to eBay Open is Las Vegas years in row & "Other" eBay events. They all say "were looking into that". It's all BS. Sad to say & I have tried over the years with so many issues. Great video! Again, nothing negative towards you in any way!

Your best option and cheaper way of doing business is simply to advertise on google and point it to your own store under your own store policies. As long as you outbid eBay's ads for your categories you'll get more sales than you do now and you'll never worry about eBay's policies or business practices. I've been a successful non-eBay seller for 2 years now.

You have been extremely understanding and patient with Ebay on these issues. That they instituted this "security" measure and leave the definition of it vague seems to be the issue. Have security steps, it seems we all agree on this, but the measures should not be so immediately extreme and when you've resolved a security issue, your account should be pretty much immediately reactivated.
