So your shipment is held at customs and they say it is prohibited
or restricted from entering the country. What happens now? Or ebay buyer reports their item
hasn't arrived and opens a case.
Many times ebay buyers will order things to their countries without knowing
if what they ordered is allowed into the country. When it is seized at customs, sometimes it is returned and shipped back but other times it is just discarded, abandoned, or destroyed. That means both the seller and the buyer could stand to lose a lot of money. Who is responsible? What do you do about it?
So clearly, ebay policy states it is the buyer's responsibility and fault if this happens. Sellers are not responsible for this. If you ship something out, as long as you have a full tracking number to prove you successfully shipped it out and it arrived in the buyer's country, then once it says it is restricted or prohibited, the seller does not have to refund the buyer. If the buyer opens a case and later escalates it to ask Ebay to step in and make a decision, the seller will win the case and the buyer will be without a refund AND the item.
Please be aware as buyers, make sure you know what you are allowed to import into your country before you order it. If you lose the shipment because it's prohibited, you will not get the shipment AND you will not get your refund (unless the seller gets the shipment back to them and wants to give you a refund out of the kindness of their heart).
