The Empire probably wanted to keep the use of older, "other" tech to a minimum. The Empire was here to stay, a new order that changed everything. Anything that wasn't purely Imperial was meant to be portrayed as primitive and obsolete.
@silentdrew76364 жыл бұрын
#AskEck Why did the Empire spend so much time and money training pilots when on average they survived less than a year after graduation? Did they survive longer in Legends?
@TheRezro4 жыл бұрын
Legend explanation was that they were prepared to fight with Vongs which weapon basically ignored shields anyway. In the canon, TIE/Ln were basically dated and mass produced slightly after Clone Wars, when shields were still uncommon. Death Star largely delayed introduction of new generation of fighters like Thrawn TIE Defender or Vader TIE Avenger.
@HispAnakin424 жыл бұрын
The_RyujinLP I agree with your opinion, except the part about the space battles. Rebel fighters were clearly superior to TIE’s, but they at least had numbers. Which brings up Silent Drew’s question. And the Battle of Yavin was like fishing in a barrel.
@TheRezro4 жыл бұрын
@@HispAnakin42 As I explained before TIE/ln were old common fighters, when quite unusually Rebellion get some number of next gen experimental fighters. Using analogy it is like F16 vs F22. But Empire actually have superior fighters like TIE/D and TIE/ad (plus Lancers), just they weren't as widespread and Rebellion deliberately pick easy targets. It was coincidence that neither was present during battle of Endor (instead we have Black Squadron TIE/ln what actually have jump-drive and shields, plus faster TIE/In). My guess is that Empire overvalue its strength and wasn't expecting attack, especially due to presence of Executor Star Dreadnought.
@jerrydickerson11114 жыл бұрын
Master Kenobi I disagree with the notion the TIE was inferior to the Xwing the TIE lacked any real shielding I suspect the reason for this design was George Lucas being a fan of WW2 aviation wanted to model the design philosophy of the TIE to the A6m Zero I would surmise that if the TIEs where deployed in a numerically superior battle with experienced fighter pilots they would obliterate the Xwings for the simple fact that it’s more of a heavy fighter like the real world P47 or IL2 it can’t turn and burn like the TIE if it could then the Rebel Alliance would not have adopted the Awing.

The prequels did largely the same thing as well which is why I like them warts and all. I imagine film technology at the time is the primary thing that made the original trilogy feel like two small factions fighting over a small handful of planets instead of a large scale galactic war. It's a shame Disney/Abrams didn't take the OT aesthetic but expand upon the scope of the galaxy like the PT had. It made TFA feel small and insignificant (can't speak to the other two as I never watched them).

A very interesting video. I was under the impression that the Empire would've scrapped all the CIS droids and ships they'd captured, melted them down and turned them into star destroyers and paperclips. But, using Lucrehulks as a self sufficient flight training school is a very inventive use for them and it provides many advantages over a permanent ground based structure.
@isd_chimaera83354 жыл бұрын
This video kind of reminds me of Empire at War, and specifically Thrawns Revenge. I like the idea of repurposing old ships and using specialised ships to enhance your fleet. In TR it gives you a lot of choice to build the empire any way you like. I really enjoy mixing and matching fleet composition, for example, incorporating Venators into my fleets for extra carrying capacity. Anyway, that’s just my thought process during the video, hope you don’t mind the semi random comment
@revenvrake74124 жыл бұрын
It is mentioned in the Novel Tarkin that most of the Providence Class of CIS ships were scrapped (or supposed to be scrapped) but parts of them were sold on the black market and a Frankenstein carrier of some sort (combining parts of a Providence, Lurkurhulk and Banking Clan Frigate) attacked Tarkin's supply base before it was captured. So it's somewhat covered in the new canon too.

Hmm… What other Clone Wars era ships would/should Thrawn have used? _[along with any post Endor imperials or just a outer rim Moff who had less oversight]._ They are spoiled for choice really, as the only thing the standard Imperial loadout brings is a _heavy hitter captial ship_ that would be the perfect compliment to a Venator (it's one weakness being slugging matches with other captial ships). So assign a Venator to escort every ISD and that's a one two punch that covers all bases. And the Venator actually synergises better with the cheap/plentiful concept of the Tie Fighter. There are various corvettes and particularly CIS frigates that could be useful, but nothing outstanding except for better anti fighter defences, and there are some Imperial ships that can do the same… if they are ever produced in enough numbers!! ARC-170's would be useful for doing recon patrols of low priority systems, but might be mistaken for X-Wings. Although if there's a spare Malevolence lying around - grab it! Just give it a escort this time.

Park them in a deadspace between systems, or outside the galaxy (such as the spot we see the rebel fleet at the end Empire Strikes Back,) and use their massive fleet of GR-75s to ferry supplies and personel to hubs to be transfered to larger freighters to be hauled to the lucrehulks. The lucrehulks were large enough to house troops, supplies, rebel HQ and even manufacturing facilities for many things, up to and including starfighters
@tythedrunkenthird-gendarkt37953 жыл бұрын
Acclamators were actually fairly heavily used during the Empire’s reign, as far as Empire at War is concerned. Not really as a troop landing ship (besides it’s not very efficient or safe to land the entire ship on a planet when you can just launch a bunch of smaller dropships from orbit), but as a sort of light battleship with its relatively heavy armament. There were a lot of them left over from the Clone Wars and, unlike the Venator, they didn’t have any particularly glaring weaknesses that would’ve made them obsolete. So it would’ve made sense to keep them around as frigates that could quickly respond to threats when needed. The Venators, meanwhile, were legitimately becoming obsolete. Their dorsal hangar with its slow-opening doors made their interiors very vulnerable, and their guns were primarily designed to handle starfighters, not capital ships. So it made more sense to simply break them down for parts with which to build more modern warships.

In Canon we know from other stories that not all the Venators were retired and scrapped like the ones on Bracca and the model actually served the Empire for many years after the Clone Wars ended, ARC-170 and V-wings along with other Republic era platforms also served for a while. We know that the Empire often scrapped the Separatist ships and other equipment they captured on Bracca and other worlds but occasionally ships like the Providence and Lucrehulk ended up with rebel groups. When the droid army was deactivated it was probably like Christmas for arms dealers with the assorted CIS equipment we see used by rebel and criminal groups

The Empire was in a hurry to dispose of most of the Venators because they were symbols of the Republic it replaced, but they're using Arquitens as light cruisers in Rebels and the upcoming Squadrons game. The only canon book which portrays the V-wing extensively in Imperial service is Lords of the Sith, with small mentions in Thrawn and Tarkin. They use CIS Gozantis as AT-AT carriers and patrol ships in Rebels and the Hoth map of Battlefront II (2017).

I remember reading in the New Essential Guide to Droids that the Empire was still fielding DSD1 Dwarf Spider Droids after the war, as a supplemental, ground-level heavy weapons platform in situations where an AT-ST or similar wouldn't have been practical. Even after the Armistice, DSD1s were still employed by the Imperial Remnant, albeit in a more fixed role, operating at Imperial checkpoints alongside Remnant Stormtroopers. I honestly wish we could've seen that in Rogue One, cool as the AT-St showing up in Jedha City was. I also wish we had more examples of actually effective CIS weapons being deployed by the Empire or the Alliance, because some of their kit was really cool.

I dont know, fuel or whatever. They also are mostly automated, since they use droids so heavily, so its not like you need a large human crew.

It would be nice to explore those ships. The entire ship interior and exterior no barriers or certain areas blocked.

I think the ships the Empire used to police smaller, less important systems are fascinating. I love the ISD as much as the next guy but you gotta admit, ships like the Arquitens and Gozanti have a certain charm to them. I loved seeing these ships in action in rebels and getting a good look at how the Empire used their smaller vessels.

Wouldn’t it have been cool if the Resistance found and reinstated these droid command ships for their fleet? Maybe have a comic series showing Lando and Mon Mothma taking back these droid stations for their forces? It would have helped explain why they weren’t in 7 and 8. I would have loved this role reversal in the sequel trilogy.

A Lukerhulk makes sence as a full naval academy, for all departments. Executive branch operating the vessel and smaller vessels (CR90, C70 etc) with the hulk as a tender. Engineering branch maintaiming it Aviation branch maintaing and operating strike craft.

I would love to have a Lucrehulk and turn it into a mobile X-Wing Assembly ship for the Alliance. And expand its living quarter capacity and even add a small market/Shopping mall inside the huge cargo bays.

No they didn’t. Look at e.u (legends). It is mostly just a bunch of cramped garbage. Though there are a few good things, it’s mostly just stuff that shouldn’t be considered part of Star Wars.

a lucrehulk could essentially be used as a mobile defence platform for a planet. just jump her into orbit or wherever and park it.

Hey Eck I know this is out of topic but I think the CR-90 isn’t as strong as originally thought here’s why: We know that in the beginning of the New Hope it has just hyperspaced away from Scarif so it most likely had its shields up to protect from any Tie Fighters that try and attack it and it probably still had its shields on after the hyper space trip, so a few low powered shots from a Star Destroyer and it’s shields were gone then after they ran out, and after a single low powered shot damaged it quite a lot. So what I’m getting at here is that it probably has better shields than armor and it’s not as strong as most people make it seem. (This was made at midnight so I’m sorry for anything weird)

They should have been refitting Venators to a strictly carrier based role. They could have also refit the main hanger to hold a small super laser, they did this to the regular Imperial 1 to make the Conquer class. Acclimators should have been present in their invasion fleets so the Star Destroyers don't have to waste space holding the ground forces and could hold more TIEs. Of course this requires the Empire can get people to not think of the Republic when they see these ships.
