I feel lucky, I was too poor to take guitar lessons, so I just naturally economy/directional picked because it seemed obvious to do so.

I just stumbled onto your channel a few days ago. I wish I had stumbled onto it a long time ago. Your insights on how to play and practice the guitar are really inspirational. Thank You so much!

😊I wonder if there is a way to go from Pentatonic to 3NPS using the Root and which String it is on instead of the 2 Note string approach you used? I feel I am over processing with the 2 Note idea and could possibly be easier. I recall you approaching the Root like this in another video and it was so natural. Am I missing something? I could be wrong. Thanks for your consideration.

Yes, absolutely you can. To be honest the more you know the scales the less you rely on these shapes and maps, everything just kind of overlays in your head. The main challenge people have is that 3nps scales have a diagonal character, so they don't fit cleanly over pentatonics shapes and chords in a neat way, but its perfectly possible to spot that say the top half of this 3nps position is on that that pentatonic box and the bottom half is closer to this other one.

Sir, are there any great guitarists that economic pick 3 notes per string? Can you please name a few?
@SteveGilson3 жыл бұрын
Off the top of my head I'd say Yngqie (example here... kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zn68pXxmit6YqtU) Frank Gambale does it and teaches it on his "Speed Picking" course. Here's a good example of Joe Stump doing it kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGOsmZVjrLhjlac

@@SteveGilson thankyou. I have been using alternate picking for 3nps for a few months now, and it's much more comfortable. If you can reach 15notes per second then the technique must be good, right? I also use. Economic picking for some weird timings

Any tips on increasing speed using speed picking on ascending sequences? I'm stuck and can't increase speed
@SteveGilson2 жыл бұрын
The two classic approaches are... 1. use a metronome at a pace you're comfortable with and increase the speed gradually. I have a video that'll do this automatically, just sweep through it and find a speed that's comfortable and it'll slowly speed up for you... kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZLadmWbpbifmLc 2. use small bursts. play 2 or 3 notes as a small burst at full speed then reset and play the same small group of notes a few more times. Once that feels ok add a note and do it all again adding an extra note each time it feels comfortable. I'll use both approaches as one seems to work when the other doesn't and vice versa.
