Ed Asner has died. He was 91. His Twitter account shared this message Sunday morning: ‘We are sorry to say that our beloved patriarch passed away this morning peacefully. Words cannot express the sadness we feel. With a kiss on your head- Goodnight dad. We love you.’ Asner is the most awarded male performer in Emmy history with seven wins. Asner’s most celebrated role was Lou Grant on ‘The Mary Tyler Moore Show’ and its subsequent spinoff. The legendary actor won five Emmys for playing the iconic character.

@@osmanyousif7849 Yeah, but that wasn't really a Millennial thing. That's more Gen Z. Like, the youngest members of my generation were in middle school when it came out. We weren't really watching Disney/Pixar movies then. I mean, we all did wind-up seeing Up, but we weren't elementary schoolers or pre-schoolers going with our parents to see it. We were all watching PG-13 and R comedies, late parody movies and late pre-MCU super hero films back in '09.

It's a good thing me too movement wasn't around back in the 1970s. Ed was in Orlando at Disney and was harassing just about every woman he came in contact with.

Almost all the movie stars are gone now from my childhood. Grew up in the 60's and 70's watching the MTM Show, love it so much that I have it on DVD. Ed Asner was the best of the best, what a great actor! My condolences to his entire family, may he R.I.P.

Could never get used to him on his new show. He was always Mary's boss Mr. Grant to me. Same with Gavin McLeod. He was always Murray Slaughter to me, not Captain Steubing.

Growing up watching Ed Asner, on "The Mary Tyler Show!" made me love Journalists and what they do! That whole cast, was amazing! The News and Sports, is my favorite time of the day whether; Good or bad! Ed, put his all in every part, that he played! R.I.P. Young Ed. You will be missed.. 🙏⭐🙏

He was the best. I loved the Christmas movie he made, A Grandpa for Christmas. I watch it every year as well as the Hallmark movies he was in. Loved him. He just seemed so down to earth and kind.

He lived a good long life and died of old age instead of a stroke or some kind of disease. Ed Asner has now ascended to the next life. Rest well Ed, say hi to Mary, Valerie, Gavin, Ted, Cloris and Georgia your all together again.

"Mr. Spunk" was the last surviving Original Cast Member of the 7-season-long show, if I am not mistaken 😒 (R I P to the onetime president of the Screen Actors Guild and fellow original castmates)

Most of Ed Asners career were before my time. Mary was way beyond her time as a very powerful woman and yet she was so graceful and funny how she played the Hollywood system and how she made Ed and many of her friends co-stars and then let them be stars themselves in their own careers. RIP to Ed and I am sure Mary welcomed him to the other side. Thank you Ed for you wonderful contribution to media and humanity.

Aside from being a great actor Ed Asner was a man of TRUTH.....and GUTS......He worked hard to bring to light TRUTH concerning 9/11......something that's still being hidden from many Americans......We Love You Ed...….in Brazil

Very sad news. He has done so much in the entertainment world. Been in many epic tv shows and movies. He was great voicing Granny Goodness in Batman/Superman Apokolis.. But I'll always remember him as Mary Tyler Moore's boss. RIP!!!

when I was way younger, I thought Ed Asner was a journalist that just so happens to show up in TV shows 😅 it's only as I got older that it's the other way around. this really sucks got me right here 💔😭. RIP Ed Asner. thank you for your priceless contributions to humanity 💯👏👏👏

Wow, I just realized Cloris Leachman and Gavin Macleod passed away this year and today is the 2 year anniversary of Valerie Harper's passing. Betty White, John Amos & Joyce Bulifant (she was Murray's wife) are the last ones still with us that had semi-regular rolls on the show (plus the young lady that played Phyllis' daughter). I love the MTM show. 😭😪
