I saw Eddie when he pretty much first started, at the Ambassadors Theatre in London in 1994 I think. Never heard of him, so just went in on the off chance. He came on wearing a mini skirt. I really loved his DNGAF attitude. Totally killed the audience. Went back to my mates enfusing about this brilliant comedian they should all see. A while later he turned up on telly in a game show. Told everyone I knew, here is the guy. Anyway, he was crap. Game show not his forte obviously. But seen him many times, and it is nice I was vindicated. Eddie helped my husband find his identity. My husband is a big tough guy, been in the military for almost 20 years, has deployed to war zones and loves to dress pretty. Eddie gave him the words to define himself: executive transvestite! Masculinity has been defined into such a tiny, constrained space for so long, it's time for a change. Just think, a 120 years ago women, especially in frontier towns, were arrested and fined for "dressing like a man" by which they mean wearing pants. That's how shocking a woman wearing pants was. They were considered perverts. Now, it's more of a faux pas to wear crocs with socks. It should be the same for men. Men should be allowed to wear makeup and dresses without being considered freaks. If girls can like trucks, boys can like dress up. The spectrum of femininity and masculinity can be expanded to include everyone. Pretending otherwise is just a sign of a closed stagnant and boring mind.

I've only seen Eddie's stand-up on a screen, it would be a hoot to see him live. "Spiritual atheist"? Okay, I've heard that term a few times. I prefer the term Secular Humanist, to each their own. I'm not spiritual but I'm an atheist, unfortunately theists don't hear "I'm an atheist", they hear "I'm the baby-eating spawn of SATAN!" and it generally makes bad 1st impressions.

One of the things I don't like about him is that's what he would say about an atheist where I respect others for who they are as a person. For example, even if one doesn't believe in a heaven I believe being an atheist doesn't exclude one from going to heaven where my fiancé would say absolutely it does, because the God I believe in wouldn't base someone's admittance on that alone. I was raised as a strict Roman Catholic so I don't know if that has anything to do with it (I've seen fellow Catholics like Stephen Colbert who seems to respect everyone's individuality as much as I do). Anyway, I hate that part about my fiancé & in a way I feel sorry for his lack of respect/understanding as otherwise he's a good person. I do remind him that being a Christian includes that you are not supposed to judge others (which he agrees) because the God we believe in only has that right to do that; but, I know many Christians including him who conveniently forget that sometimes very important biblical lesson for some reason. Thankfully, for me he seldom expresses this (or I wouldn't be with him after knowing him really well for 14+ yrs) but it still doesn't make it right. Plus, I would be hypocritical for not accepting him for who he is; but I'm human in the way to admit I do find it incredibly frustrating that he feels this way & I'm saddened that a lot of people do in general.

Eddie clearly doesn't care about putting off closed minded people but I don't think most theist are like that just the shetered ones and the extremists. Theist covers a WIDE variety of beliefs.

Jenna Katy I've had some bad encounters with Christians and Muslims, not many Jews in Canada. I used to identify as Militant Anti-Theist after spending a year in a Salvation Army rehab where they drill "higher power" aka the Christian god into your head 24/7 and forced me to sit in church sermons every day for an hour before they let me have breakfast. I did get to read through both the Old and New Testaments and do quite a bit of research during that time which strengthened my disbelief. Up until a year ago, 2016, I was a hateful, angry, bitter troll who attacked any and all religions...then I met a lass online who showed me how to see the world in a different perspective through compassion, hope, positivity and humility, I even got a tattoo of 4 green hearts in the shape of a Lucky Clover in her honour to remind myself daily of those 4 important traits. (She's Irish Catholic but the subject of religion never came up between us.) Now, 2017, 2 of my best online friends are Christians, one of 'em is a bisexual cosplaying Republican Trump supporter from Texas and the other is a Pentacostal from Hoboken New Jersey who handles snakes and speaks in tongues. She calls me "My Love" and prays for me alla time. How cute. LOL! Even if I had to choose a religion it would be one without a deity; Taoism is a good one, it suits me. It was Ip Man and Bruce Lee's religion too.

Ah, well you get that from both sides. Well, not exactly the same thing obviously, but there are enough atheists who are virulently, judgementally anti-religion in such a way that having any reasonable discussion is nigh impossible. It's a shame, really, but people tend to be very defensive of what they like and can sometimes be abrasive about what they don't like/understand. I know, I have my own weaknesses. It would be nice, though, to have someone sit back and realise that we're all human and that one's professed (lack of) beliefs do not make someone less so.
