If Tesla comes out with some sort of hatchback or compact SUV (Model 2?) starting at around £30k, I don’t think they’d be able to fling them off the production line fast enough.

Back in 2016 I did a Crawley, Sussex to Edinburgh drive, in a first generation 24kWh LEAF. 450 miles. Needless to say I didn't make it without stopping to recharge! In fact I was ultra cautious (100% reliant on Ecotricity, which were free of charge at the time) and stopped about every 50 miles (for about 20 minutes each). Yep, 8 charge stops. The same on the way home four days later, of course. No drama at all but lots of successful charge stops. That was five years ago next week. I'm seriously considering replicating that in my 2020 Kia Soul EV. Could probably do it with one midway stop.

My 2020 Audi TTRS will only do 300 miles with a full tank, so when my Tesla finally comes I’ll actually get a range increase! That’s very impressive though, I went for the M3P because I thought it was the more modern exciting car, the Model S still has a lot going for it though, the new ones are going to be insane!

Heroic bladder control. Three hours is about my limit before needing some kind of inputs or outputs. Our record in the e-Niro is a 400 km round trip to Bordeaux from where we live in France. It was mid-winter sub 10c all the way and typically 110 km/h. Got back with 11% left so not bad but the Tesla S long range is on another level.

I’m not convinced one can drive close enough to a truck at 60 mph safely to actually get the benefit of slip streaming. If you’ve even seen a smoke trail in a wind tunnel of a car - the vortex forms really close behind the vehicle hence why the back of cars after motorway driving in the wet get in such a mess. The slipstreaming in NASCAR is achieved at very high speeds with the vehicles inches away from each other! I would even hazard that driving in the vortex of the truck actually reduces the aerodynamic effectiveness of the car.

That was original plan and more convenient for me, but then I pictured the criticisms that it’s not inside m25 etc. I figured WD as their uk head office was a tiny bit pertinent. But then actually the m40 to m25 slip road was closed. I couldn’t have gone that way anyway. That’s the trouble with driving in the middle of night I find. So many roads are closed. Couple weeks ago m6 northbound completely shut for road works with a massive a road diversion required. Painful.

The thing is whilst that is good for Teslas and indeed electric cars in general they're still far too expensive for me to even consider it.

Well yes. A new Tesla is expensive, but so is a Porsche, Range Rover, bmw 7 series etc etc. It’s about changing the choices for new car buyers. Then it will trickle down to affordable used, and then more mass market means affordable new. Already a Tesla model 3 really is on price parity with a bmw 3 series etc.

Hi Richard, great video thanks. One question please. I'm interested in buying a Tesla Model 3 performance but am concerned about the ride quality with those 20 inch tyres. How bad is the ride quality compared to a Long range model with 18 inch? Thank you
@johnmckay1423
@johnmckay1423 3 жыл бұрын
@JustMe JustMeI can give half an answer... I have the Performance, but only had that one because lease pricing craziness meant it was cheaper than an LR at the time 🤷‍♂️ The ride is fine - better than the hot hatch it replaced - but I really don't think the Performance is worth the extra money or the decrease in ride comfort. Unless you're into supercar baiting, the LR is plenty fast enough and it will be more comfortable. If you're after a bit more performance, there is now an in car option to pay about £1500 for an over the air acceleration boost software update (definitely in the 2021 model, but I think before that too) which improves the 0-60 time to about 3.9s. Given that when you enable the track mode you get a message saying do not use this on the public road, I think you'd be in a dodgy position with your insurance company if you ignore that, so it's of limited value. Then you're down to the performance brakes and while there are comments that they're not suitable for track use, you have to try very hard on the public road to cook them. I'd go for the better ride comfort and longer range, everything else being equal.
@RSEV
@RSEV 3 жыл бұрын
It’s fairly firm but acceptable and settles on a long run. Jiggly in town. BUT most modern cars tend to be really, and it’s very high performance. So for the speed of the thing, it’s better than most performance cars... Probably a bit softer than a bmw 3 series with m sport suspension. Better than an Audi A5 with slime suspension too. So firm, firm but fair...

No I don’t think so. Not keeping up with 56mph traffic as minimum. I find even with efficient run, m3 LR can top 300 and get to maybe 330 but not over 400 But I will try it one day to check 😜

@@RSEV Would love to see that, I'll be doing London to Frankfurt (480 miles) on my M3 LR once we are allowed, Trip Planner tells me I have to do alteast two stops of around 25 Minutes each. We'll see how it goes.

so basacly you did a roud trip in somones brand new car without asking them. dents scraches and scrapes that can get coused during the roud trip is just poleshed out? its one thing driving to the shop itself but taking a full on roud trip and then sell the car is a bit to much.

Your are mistaken. I bought the car. It was mine. I owned it a while, sold it a couple months later. Why did you think otherwise?
