Back in 2016 I did a Crawley, Sussex to Edinburgh drive, in a first generation 24kWh LEAF. 450 miles. Needless to say I didn't make it without stopping to recharge! In fact I was ultra cautious (100% reliant on Ecotricity, which were free of charge at the time) and stopped about every 50 miles (for about 20 minutes each). Yep, 8 charge stops. The same on the way home four days later, of course. No drama at all but lots of successful charge stops. That was five years ago next week. I'm seriously considering replicating that in my 2020 Kia Soul EV. Could probably do it with one midway stop.

I’m not convinced one can drive close enough to a truck at 60 mph safely to actually get the benefit of slip streaming. If you’ve even seen a smoke trail in a wind tunnel of a car - the vortex forms really close behind the vehicle hence why the back of cars after motorway driving in the wet get in such a mess. The slipstreaming in NASCAR is achieved at very high speeds with the vehicles inches away from each other! I would even hazard that driving in the vortex of the truck actually reduces the aerodynamic effectiveness of the car.

@RSEV3 жыл бұрын
That was original plan and more convenient for me, but then I pictured the criticisms that it’s not inside m25 etc. I figured WD as their uk head office was a tiny bit pertinent. But then actually the m40 to m25 slip road was closed. I couldn’t have gone that way anyway. That’s the trouble with driving in the middle of night I find. So many roads are closed. Couple weeks ago m6 northbound completely shut for road works with a massive a road diversion required. Painful.

Hi Richard, great video thanks. One question please. I'm interested in buying a Tesla Model 3 performance but am concerned about the ride quality with those 20 inch tyres. How bad is the ride quality compared to a Long range model with 18 inch? Thank you
@johnmckay14233 жыл бұрын
@JustMe JustMeI can give half an answer... I have the Performance, but only had that one because lease pricing craziness meant it was cheaper than an LR at the time 🤷♂️ The ride is fine - better than the hot hatch it replaced - but I really don't think the Performance is worth the extra money or the decrease in ride comfort. Unless you're into supercar baiting, the LR is plenty fast enough and it will be more comfortable. If you're after a bit more performance, there is now an in car option to pay about £1500 for an over the air acceleration boost software update (definitely in the 2021 model, but I think before that too) which improves the 0-60 time to about 3.9s. Given that when you enable the track mode you get a message saying do not use this on the public road, I think you'd be in a dodgy position with your insurance company if you ignore that, so it's of limited value. Then you're down to the performance brakes and while there are comments that they're not suitable for track use, you have to try very hard on the public road to cook them. I'd go for the better ride comfort and longer range, everything else being equal.
@RSEV3 жыл бұрын
It’s fairly firm but acceptable and settles on a long run. Jiggly in town. BUT most modern cars tend to be really, and it’s very high performance. So for the speed of the thing, it’s better than most performance cars... Probably a bit softer than a bmw 3 series with m sport suspension. Better than an Audi A5 with slime suspension too. So firm, firm but fair...
