Our expectation of education should be reconsidered - the pandemic reveals a new perspective. Listen to find out how something that has seemingly divided so many, may actually be the thing that brings future generations together.

No government would approve that because that gives more power to the people. But nice thoughts.

That may be true about government….so what can we do? Parents can start in their own homes as so many already have…myself included. Home education can bring those “nice thoughts” into fruition. We have to start somewhere and it’s already begun in many homes. ☺️

Sad but true. Education was implemented to make the people comply to rules and guidelines. No more no less.

Matt, I loved your message. I think we should reimagine education at an earlier age. The lessons you identified could benefit a preschooler! Let's make it happen!

The government or “public” schools that are “free” wouldn’t be set up like this ever. Despite the efforts of countless teachers to continue pushing the rock up the mountain despite it coming down. (I know this I’ve been a teacher that’s my passion) this is part of the reason so many teachers are leaving the system or using their skills elsewhere. This is why school choice is immensely important this gives parents the option to choose their school AND they don’t have to worry about the cost. I’ve worked at experiential,Reggio, and regular” schools all before the pandemic. After/during the pandemic there was such a drastic difference between both the kids and the policies. The kids are emotionally traumatized, developmentally they are younger then their age. In my kinder class of 23 18 were “well below” meaning they were not at the level they were expected to be YET I was still expected to only teach the scripted curriculum in the data based way. Sit in your chair don’t stand up don’t talk without raising your hand pull up your mask. I tried and tried to implement things to help them understand basic skills and I praised them when they were close. It broke my heart into pieces the way those kids acted yelling screaming it was over stimulating for them to suddenly be in a place for 8 hours. When I spoke to admin about the kids who needed something different she just said it wasn’t preschool. The current system is in place not to educate but to assimilate they want them to be “good workers” to move at the bell to eat lunch in an orderly manner in a limited amount of time. Standardized texts are put into place to eventually be performance evaluations. They’re at school for 8 hrs a day to prepare them for the 30+ hour work week. The schools that are apart form the typical data standardized are few and far between and usually are private and cost money. Unfortunately not everyone can homeschool especially with small or special needs children What I propose is neighborhood schools/ within a certain mileage at local churches/ Rec centers to recreate the schoolhouse of a time where kids could go home for lunch or they ate outside by the creek. Kids of all ages could help each other and let’s just say a third grader is at a 5/6 grade reading level they’re given books ...at their level if they need Smallgroup math that’s the instruction they’ll get they might have it a few times a week but the important thing is they get what they need. Kids do not need 8hr instruction and 3+ he of homework projects real life experiences this is what will prepare them to not only be successful but have a fulfilling life experience. Checking out books at the library, ordering food at a restaurant, finding items on a shopping list, selling lemonade at a lemonade stand I could go on and on. Neighborhood schools is what I’m hoping begins in the future I live in a small retirement town without a school in the city but my dream would be to ride my bike and teach a small group of kids and know them for many years.

I added this to my highlighted videos on my website about Happiness Education. I am in sync with you on both the need for a fundamental reset of the education system and to a large degree on what the reset should look like. I think the happiness of children should be the primary purpose of education, and that the foundation of such an education should be teaching the means to feel as one chooses. But creating the means and opportunities for students to follow their passions and to learn by doing should be central as well. I feel we are comrades in what I hope will become one of the great causes of our time.

Very well said, happiness is important, children need to be taught that they create their happiness. Would you agree that we should teach them emotional intelligence and how to shift emotional states, with techniques such a breath work, some sort of yoga practice/ movement routine? I want to help give children a blue print so they become the heroes of their own journeys and a whole being that can make the world a brighter place. Could you share your website somehow I would love to check it out. Thank you.

I thought this was an incredible talk, built up based on your wide ranging experience in education that I found particularly facilitating. I agree that the distinction needs to be set between the broken systems and the amazing teachers/ administrators. You articulated my thoughts and gave me some new directions to explore to round out my own ideas. I had some terrible experiences at school that were easily avoidable, I want to use my mess as my message in order to give children the blueprint to be their own heroes and lead their own life long learning journeys. Is that building you're in a alternative education system that is putting this into action?

I really want to say... how about we fix the opportunities for those who have no chance at a proper education first!... but that just leads to more hate, more division, more sarcastic eye rolls. There seems to be geninuine passion from this man who wants a better world for everyone. Instead of just spreading anger towards his views, let's educate him of the plight of those of us who would desperately love to just have our children educated fairly with what resources are available today. Don't hate on him, love him. That's the answer

let's rest by explaining to every global educational system in their native tongue, that all history that is relevant to have made great change for the better was not apart had not be dispersed as our oldest ancestors would of planned for in there vision for sustaining happiness. that in the history being taught for hundreds of years and up to this very day is all based on a narrative from so long ago to suit a time and purpose of people that are not hear now to apologize for there mistakes.they obviously where greedy and very one track minded kinds of human. To this day I no in my country the "crown" still have not admitted there fault in obtaining what the presumed fit to own as if other life that was pure their had no concept of feelings, understanding or logic in that moment. it's a very dull way and shot way to get my point across yet for the most of us I am sure you understand. there is thousands of years in history that have yet to be puzzled together and yet for even those like myself who have no framed certificates on there wall nor years of study in a pituitary subject understand and see this world from afar. it's in our subconscious where intuition will give logic the data to obtain a suitable resolve with all consequences understood now still we are cheated from a fundamental happiness over someone's lack in sadness...go figure

The problem is privatization. private prisons... Privatized medicine ... Private schools, private water, private forests... I think we all know what happens when profit becomes the priority when the priority should be health, the priority should be raising, happy, whole humans... The priority should be justice, not jailing innocent people because money and profit are the priority. See when we privatize important things in a capitalistic society we lose sight of what is important in order to profit. That's why people don't want to be vaccinated right now because they can't trust that these huge pharmacuetical companies have their best interest at heart because we know that a company on the u.s main priority is profit. And they say, "oh well, then it creates free trade and innovation" but we see where it leads... It leads to one company owning all of the major media companies, one company behind all of the products in Your grocery stores under the guise of different companies... So there is no good argument for privatizing anything of importance anymore. If the school system sucks then I agree, it's good for communities to start their own schooling system but don't privatize it, because soon all of those privatized schools will be run by corporate interest focused on their interests and not the interests of your child

Capitalist propaganda, under the clothing of giving children better education. Anytime someone talks about working with other capitalist to make education better, to compete, to be superior to others, and that their children must achieve blah, blah, blah...and this comparison to martial arts, where it is respect for others and never used to put yourself ahead of others. This guy was making me sick at the stomach with his voice and egoist rhetoric!
