I talked with the one and only Greg Koukl about Street Smarts, his new book. It's a sort of sequel to Tactics, a previous book he wrote about strategically maneuvering conversations about Christianity. If you're scared to talk to others about your faith, this video is for you.

My first time going to church on my own was in my early 20s the church i went to had an alter call went up there and felt happy and on fire for him (it was different from what i feel now). But things happened in-between and i left the church. Fast forward to last year around this time i was dying and sick and didnt know why, anyways i told Jesus "im done running from you i give you my life" and once i said those words my life changed completely, (i was alone in my room.) Its so different now and I have a relationship with God and he's been changing me working in me. It's quite fascinating to be on this journey with him❣️i don't ever want to go back to my old life. Life has meaning now!

I am never afraid to be blunt and direct (though polite and willing to fully explain) my faith and Christian principles. For I've been both poor and fairly well off, and can find contentment in all situations through the strength Christ gives me (Philippians 4:12), so I do not care about being cancelled.

Can't wait to get this new book! I've been trying to work on using "tactics" with an elderly couple I work for, actually. They are verrrry rich and verrry old (93 and 97) so I feel a sense of urgency and sometimes talk too much without asking questions. Back to the basics!!

I grew up in a Christian household but left the church and faith in my teens. Conviction followed me everywhere but I wanted to keep living in my sin. Finally, one day my parents were talking to themselves about the story of Jonah. It was there that the Holy Spirit really convicted me- I was trying to run away/hide from God- but I couldn’t do it anymore so I gave my life to Christ.

I watch quite a bit of Ray Comfort witnessing. He never leads anyone through a prayer, he always prays for them, asking for genuine repentance and that God will lead them forward (essentially) The Thanks God for them, and their openness to the Gospel. And of course always leaves them with something to go on with 💜

24:40 my thing with alter calls is, I dont generally like them, because its just an emotional moment, and emotions dont last. Its the seed with shallow soil. Springs up fast and then dies. However I can acknowledge it as a good tool, I just dont think it should be over-used, for that very reason. Sometimes and emotional moment can incite change, but if you try to bring on that emotional moment every single week, it ceases to even have that emotional impact.

Yes, from my understanding, Ray comfort is deliberately against praying the sinners prayer at the end of all his conversations. But Ray leaves the person to make an informed decision for themselves later.

Looking forward to reading Greg Koukl new book, Street Smarts. I have read Tactics which has given me a lot of thought provoking and hands on advice on how to approach and share the word of God. Thank you Melissa for your channel and for the work you do here on KZbin, it has helped to guide me in a complex media jungle of information.

Lot's of good information. I like how Greg K. has a heart for people! And I'm so glad he talks about the Holy Spirit is the one who converts people not us. 1. It's the truth and 2. It rightly states that God is sovereign over everything and 3. It puts less pressure on us and more freedom to share with more people and not focus on us being the only person that can convert to a specific person.

I've always been like this too (in my past, not always for the Glory of God unfortunately if I'm being fully honest) but I'm definitely going to have to check out his book more! I had looked it up on Google and it allowed me to read the first like 30 pages and I was like nooooo I need more!!

Ok I think this was a good video for me, I have always wondered how I evangelise if just going for the throat and pointing out why someone's ideology is *insane* is going to do nothing but burn bridges. This gives me an answer, just ask questions. Naturally. Just show a curiosity. Even though I already know the answers, they dont. And asking those questions may cause them to realize that. I just have to put myself aside, and just allow myself to engage with that, so that they have to themselves. It would be risky, if it wasnt so strong in my faith, but I think I know God is true, to a degree that nothing could shake that. So I must extend my faith further and... just ask questions. Every once and a while. When it makes sense.

So, if that's the case, what was the key goals that had been achieved through the "Church" as what is the Church and how is it different from the synagogue? Is it related or unrelated, dies it build greater confidence amongst followers or it generally doesn't fit any purpose besides good story telling?
@leenieledejo6849
@leenieledejo6849 8 ай бұрын
"Church" is the traditional English translation of the New Testament Greek word "ekklesia". "Ekklesia" means "called-out ones". It refers to PEOPLE. It's tragic that most people now associate the word with "building" or, even worse, "institution".

That's the problem, when we are asking for reconcilation it's really about reconciliation of everything and not just about the story of one or two person but it's a whole group of people that's from two totally different background and it's not any good versus bad because then it wouldn't be a reconciliation!! So where we going with this? I had been asking to take a break so people don't get pushed up against some sort of narratives that they seem need to solve but doesn't know how to do it right. It's not about you getting the story you want but really about reconciliation. Not how to win something that doesn't fit the whole storyline,. It's like we can't jam Egyptian, Roman, Israel, Islam or Christianity and Chinese into the whole picture if we go by just roman history or Israel or Egyptian (how to even define who is Egyptian to begin with?)..

From my understanding - the man you were talking to about Islam. He was talking about taking a Shahada which is the declaration of faith which is similar to baptism. Wiping away of sins and forgiveness. But sounds like he was confused and thought it was all the time? But nevertheless, It’s not that you say that whenever and you are forgiven. This is said every single daily prayer. I think there’s performing of tawbah for forgiveness. & then Muslims do good deeds to help themselves gain rewards in heaven. I’m sure you know more knowledgeable people as you both were mentioning but just thought I’d give some info that I know.

David Wood, knowns as Acts 17 Polemics and Apologetics Roadshow here on YT. He knows a lot about Islam and has great information in his videos. I mean really well-done. He was also a really good friend of Nabeel Qureshi, who sadly passed away. He was an ex-Muslim who's also been very helpful for me in learning about Islam to be able to evangelize. His book "seeing Allah, finding Jesus" is a must-read

Atheism perfectly accounts for pervasive natural evil. Natural evil (intrinsic suffering) is wholly consistent with an indifferent and purposeless cosmos. It is completely inconsistent with a loving deity whose telos has anything to do with humans.
