Honestly, Eggman was the only person who kept me interested in Lost World. Everyone else was either out-of character or just straight up uninteresting. Sonic was just overly impulsive, Tails was being a jealous bitch, Orbot and Cubot are just hilariously unfunny and the Zetis are just non-existent. Eggman was not taking anyone’s shit in this game.

I think if Sonic and Eggman had both been presumed dead the zeti would be guarding the energy device more closely so Eggman wouldn’t have time to snoop in and access it, even if presumed dead

Oh, we absolutely can. I've never heard anyone mention what Eggman says just after that in the background while Sonic and Tails are talking over him, before Sonic knocks the conch out of his hand. If you listen closely, you hear something along the lines of: "I'm a compassionate man. -Or else I would've tossed you all into a bottomless pit by now! Obviously, I was [the rest is unintelligible to me]" So Eggman is practically saying that the D6 should be grateful that he abused and enslaved them and that they have to endure the punishment of the painful conch because hey, AT LEAST he's sparing their lives! Bringing that up along with how he doesn't care about how painful the conch's effects were to the D6, only about how rare the conch was, how the smug bastard visibly enjoyed inflicting that pain upon them the two times we saw him use the conch, and how he doesn't care about the damage done to the world as long as there's enough for him to conquer, they're all more examples of him being truly self centered and having no concern for others. Ah yes, a very 'compassionate' man indeed! :D Very messed up of him to say that enslaving and punishing them instead of killing them is showing compassion. I love him 💜💕

Many fans thought Eggman is weak but he actually has some strengh in him (Not to mention that he can run just as fast as Sonic.). It's just that he's aware that Sonic can easily beat him in hand-in-hand combat, which is why he prefers to use robots, and giant mechs, to fight & defeat Sonic. I'm all for new sonic games, but I stay for the stories primarily. I love seeing how they delve into the psychology and duality of Eggman and sonic in the world they live in. As outlandish as the premise is- there's something so fascinating about how it works. A man falls into insanity trying to conquer a world out of sheer power hunger but is somehow always taken back down to earth by some hyper sonic hedgehog. ultimately pushing the man further into this crazed rivalry. Though the modern games and media have toned down the themes I would not be opposed to seeing how this scenario would play out in a more serious and darker tone. I just wish they could take the world with a bit more seriousness just enough to make it memorial in that it doesn't try to over commodify itself.
