well, there are some people who probably can't peel eggs at all(say like an amputee who's missing a hand/arm or people with severe nerve damage that causes shaking) before this they wouldn't even be able to do eggs without the aid of someone else. Now they can!
@TheIves337 жыл бұрын
TreClaire if one doesn't have the dexterity to peel an egg how in the hell would they have the dexterity to actually use this device? honestly lol. your heart is in the right place but c'mon 😂
@TreClaire7 жыл бұрын
they easily could though? I'm honestly not sure why you think it'd be so hard? Will it take a good bit of time, yeah sure but it's hardly impossible. All you really need to do is stand the base up and crack and egg into it, both of those things can easily be done one-handed or with a shaky hand. You can boil a pot of water with one hand...especially if your stove is close enough to your sink. You can break the air seal with just one hand and you can bang the thing on the counter till the egg pops out with one hand. The hardest part of this product for a one-handed/shakey handed person would be twisting and untwisting the lid but that's totally do-able. Go grab a bottle or something in your kitchen and try to open it with just one hand...it'll wobble some but you'll get there and if you did it enough you'd totally get to the point where it won't wobble at all. Now lets compare that to trying to peel an egg??? THAT'S impossible with one hand. The egg would roll around forever.

poke a tiny hole in the bottom of the egg before boiling. makes it easy to shell them and doesn't leak out due to air pressure/vs water pressure. When you do the cold water rinse the cold water shoots up between the hot shell and the membrane and helps it seperate.

I tend to prefer an egg cooker because there is no washing up to do afterwards. just pop in your eggs pop in some water turn in on and wait for it to beep to let you know they are cooked.
@TheNZJester7 жыл бұрын
We use an old Breville egg cooker in our house that uses very little water at all. It has a small sharp spike in the middle of the egg holder that you use to punch a tiny hole in the larger end of the egg, you then put them in the holder up to 7 with that hole facing up and the narrower end down. It uses just a few millimeters of water at the bottom. For hard boiled you fill the cup piece built into the center of the lid right up. Only two thirds full for soft boiled. Turn it on, stick the lid on and it lets out a loud buzz when the eggs are ready. We then put the eggs wile still hot into a bowl of cold water and then with the palms of our hands roll them on a wooden bread board with just enough pressure to crack the shell as we roll, then peel it off.

I've found that adding eggs directly into the boiling water instead of letting the eggs come up to a boil with the water makes the shells easy to come off. I was having trouble for a while, but ever since I found this trick, I haven't had problems. The only time it doesn't work is if you add too many eggs in a pot too small, driving the temp of the boiling water way down. Bringing them up to room temp in warm water probably helps with this. For perfect boiled eggs that aren't overcooked, I put them in the boiling water, let them go a couple minutes, then turn off the heat, cover the pot, and let them sit in the cooling water for about twelve to fourteen minutes. After that, I put the eggs into an ice bath to stop the cooking. No grey yolks for me!

I also enjoy your unbiased nature when it comes to these certain products and how you really go through it and add in your own opinion in a way that is very intelligent and reasonable. The classic methos is best, start the eggs in a pot of cold water, they will warm us as the water does, once the water beings to boil let it go for 4-6 minutes depending on egg size and desired doneness. Thake pot to the sink, pour out hot water and fill with cold water and let stand, done.

So that the egg shells don't burst while boiling, I use a tack to make a tiny hole at one end of the egg. There's a pointier end and a blunter end, so poke the hole in the blunter end. That end has a small chamber between the shell and inner membrane. Poking a tiny hole here will give the egg a place to release the pressure inside that's created by the cooking. Be careful to poke only the hard shell and not break the inner membrane. You'll see tiny bubbles coming from the hole once it's cooking, and the shell won't bust cz is got that pressure release. After cooking, give it an ice water bath for a few minutes, drain the water, shake the pan to crack and loosen the shells, then peel under gently running water. If the egg is not fresh, this works even better because the air chamber gets bigger over time.

We have an egg cooker 😂 it makes the perfect eggs unless you want "dippy" eggs. (a dippy egg is a English term, I don't know if it's used through all of Britain so I'm just gonna say English for now) it's basically a boiled egg with a runny yolk for dipping toast in. It fails at the dippy egg and you end up with a snotty egg of you don't leave it in its shell for a minute or two after cooking.

Kathy Niebylski Sorry Kathy, your research is wrong. The color of the egg is not related to the color of the feathers, just the breed. White Plymouth Rocks lay brown eggs. White Leghorn lays white. Other colors of Plymouth Rocks also lay brown. There are Brown Leghorns, they lay white. Araucanas come in many colors and lay blue and green eggs. Americanas, also in many colors, lay blue and green. Orpingtons, again, many colors, including white, lay brown eggs.

It's funny how many people seem to be shocked or surprised at least at the white eggs. I mean, I grew up eating eggs of all kinds of shades, so I had really white ones, off-white ones, beige ones, really light brown ones and even shaded eggs. All taste exactly the same and bleaching isn't allowed here. I have to say that I prefer brown(ish) eggs, because in my experience, the shell is a tiny bit thicker and cracks more evenly on an edge when I make scrambled eggs or something like that. I also grew up using an egg pick to poke a small hole into the air pocket on the blunt end of the egg, so if you put a cold egg from the fridge into boiling water, the pressure escapes through the hole and the egg doesn't crack. I usually don't put my eggs into cold water and they still peel well. I don't know if the egg pick helps with that, too.
@hkandm4s234 жыл бұрын
FYI- the fresher the egg, the easier it is to peel. If you cook an egg perfectly and it's still impossible to peel, it's probably many days older than the eggs Emmy has from her chickens. Just thought I'd let people know it's not just about the cooking method. ☺️
@CP-od7tr2 жыл бұрын
When hard-cooking eggs, ignore conventional wisdom and go with the freshest eggs you can find. (Cook's Illustrated) "In general, older eggs are easier to peel, so for hard boiled eggs an egg a few weeks old is better," David Mogford from the Australian Egg Corporation. Do what Emmy does. Room temp eggs, boiling water then add eggs, cook to your desired stage, (8 min. is mine like Emmy I like the yolk creamy), cold water until completely cool. Old eggs or fresh will peel easily.

Why are American eggs so white?!
@a697ag7 жыл бұрын
Sonya Kate bleach
@CommanderWiggins7 жыл бұрын
+a697ag Yeah, they probably do go through some kind of bleaching. It's strange that we Americans prefer white eggs so much. I mean there's no difference in flavor or anything between white and brown eggs.
@emmymade7 жыл бұрын
The color of the egg depends on the breed of chicken. I usually buy brown eggs, but I with Easter around the corner I've found white eggs take dye better and make for more vibrantly colored eggs, so I got those instead.
@xChijouChanx7 жыл бұрын
Because they're laid by chickens who produce white eggs? I'm amazed how many people don't realize egg color is dependent on chicken breed and not bleaching (chickens can produce blue/green/pinkish eggs too)
@aguadyne7 жыл бұрын
+Deku Kitty No, bleach would ruin the shell. Different chickens produce different eggs.
@metalcorequeen7 жыл бұрын
I bought one of these sets on amazon because they showed you can make all sorts of flavored eggs by adding green onion or diced up peppers while it cooks, but I used it a few times and after a bit it does start to have a bit of a strange plastic aftertaste.

Donna G you're too kind! thankyou Donna! my son was also a week late, I'm feeling a bit cheated this time, all I've heard is "you go earlier with your second!"
@donnag49407 жыл бұрын
Sarah Archer I have 3 of my own. A son thats 29, and 2 daughters age 17 and 18. My first was 22 hrs and a C section. My girls were each exactly 12 hrs and natural delivery. All 3 were a week overdue. My girls were definitely a quicker an easier delivery. Even after all these years I still remember how precious yet difficult pregnancy can be. I was so grateful for words of encouragement during those times. It helped me to know that others could understand my mixed emotions and "aches and pains" that went along with it. Now its my pleasure to pass along that same support to another Mommy to be.😀 I will continue to extend my thoughts and prayers to you for a speedy and healthy delivery. Take care and hang in there.😘

Maybe you were supposed to cover the eggies while boiling? Maybe that's why they took so long?

Hey, I came up with a great idea from that device... A hard boiled powder egg maker... Emmy, I usually place my eggs in a pot; and fill the pot about 1/2" to 1" above the ggs with water. Boil down to 1/2" the egg level water. The shells come off by themselves.

I enjoyed watching your video. It was very informative and made a lot of sense. I was about to order these Eggies, but your very useful information made me decide against that idea. I will stick to standard hard boiled eggs. It's funny how people waste a lot of time and effort inventing new products to try to solve problems that aren't actually problems. As you have said, these pointless gadgets actually increase the hassle factor. Well done! Æx

Another great video! The easiest way to peal an egg is to slide the dome of a spoon between the egg and the shell, run it around, and the egg pops right out. Takes less than 10 seconds!

Greetings Emmy, I love your videos! I was wondering if you could make one about the Egglettes? Similar to Eggies but newer and they are quite popular. I'm just wondering if the mechanism and process is anything better than the Eggies version before I consider buying the Egglettes product because as of right now I don't find the Eggies worth it after having watched your video. Thanks!

although not stated specifically, I feel like this product might have been designed for people who lack the fine motor skills needed to peel an egg. maybe a disabled person would benefit more from it?
@isortofyoutube7 жыл бұрын
I can't remember where I read it but a lot of 'As Seen on TV' products that seem silly just like this one have been created with disabled people in mind but the companies need to sell more to make money so they also market it to the general public too.
@aurorasparks19857 жыл бұрын
I have no fingernails so it's hard for me to peels eggs, but I would never buy this thing. But I'm sure there is a good reason for this (as someone said earlier, this could be for people who lack motor skills or have little to no control over their hands).
@TreClaire7 жыл бұрын
listen my guy, when you see these kinds of products you need to not think about it in terms of you...a fully able bodied person. Whenever you see one of these "lazy" products stop and ask yourself "Would this make my old, frail and tired grandmas life easier?"...consider all the people who aren't as lucky to be able bodied like you. Think about people who shake, have nerve damage or are amputees. Not everything is for you. Some of these "lazy" products can genuinely help people.

Salt the water first. Putting vinegar in the water before boiling keeps the eggs from cracking. If they do crack the vinegar seals them right up again. With regular eggs I boil them for 3 to 4 minutes, take them off the heat, cover the pot and let them sit for 30 mints before putting in Ice water. My Mom's recipe for deviled eggs is mayo and Emril's seasoning and sprinkle paprika across the top. I like to add a touch of Wasabi paste to spice them up. :)

For all of y'all wondering about the white eggs it's because of the breed of chicken. At least around here Leghorns are one of the most common layers. The eggs aren't bleached, bleach would ruin the shells.
