It finally snowed here in New Hampshire. Here is first person view of me clearing snow. I tried getting shots of throw distance, end of driveway removal after plows went by and removed about 20 feet of snow on either side of my driveway on the road. This means less cleanup when the plow comes by a second time and less snow for my mail man to access the mail box. We were dealing with about 6-8 inches of snow and the snow was wet and heavy. It should be noted I wanted to put this snow blower through its paces. So I ran this on turn the whole time. More videos of this snow blower in other settings to come.
Note: Please ignore the time stamp on my camera. I had no idea it was on and the date is incorrect.

Reading your comments, I see you figured out the turbo issue. Heres my findings with it. Turbo not only kills the battery, causes the over heating, it was also responsible for the miss readings you were getting. It will cause the battery to read lower than the power it actually has left. At least that has been my experience so far. Also not sure if your garage is heated or not.... but bring those batteries inside if it isnt. Charging them in the warm house, storing them in the warm house, will extend the run time as well. I didnt realize that either at 1st. But running on eco, and charging andf storing in the warm house, really increased run time.
@BronzeLincolns81

Misreadings come from battery sag. happens with all battery powered equipment when you put stress on it. goes back to actual reading when it has time to cool down off load.

Okay need to update everyone. I am making another video and hopefully was able to address some of the feedback. I did not use the snowblower on turbo the whole time in the new video. I did cycle it a couple times. Dealing with fluffy snow. 7 to 8 inches. End of driveway about 11-12 inches. I was able to do the entire driveway twice and able to address the end of the driveway clearing out either side of driveway for a path for the blow to push more snow and mailbox. I still had one bar left and I have to say. Huge difference in how far the batteries go. New video should be up in about a week.

Just got the chance to test out my Ego 2 stage today with 14"+ of heavy dense snow in SE MA. It handled it as well as my previous 2 stage gas snow blower, I did an 8 car driveway and then a 7' wide by 60' section of snow plow bank that was 30"-36" high. Highly impressed, but I did experience chute drift as few times and with this type of dense snow (the first couple of inches on the ground were slush) it couple use a little more weight over the rear tires, but the overall weight to make it super maneuverable. Thanks for posting your machine so that I could get a good sense of what I would be dealing with this first time out.

This was great, thank you. I live in Cleveland, Ohio, and have debating which battery powered snow blower to get. We get lake effect snow, which is always heavy and wet. Plus, the major ice buildup in the apron from snow plows, definitely need something substantial. Just wish the price tag wasn't so high...

Yeah, I don't think a 4 cycle would over heat. I have the Ego single stage blower but I don't think I'll go for the two stage with the over heating issue in only 8 inches of fluffy snow.

Maybe electric blowers caught up in terms of snow removal capabilities BUT my two stage gasoline Craftsman cost me $699 and about $5.00 in gas for 5 hours continuous running. You never mentioned the cost of the unit and the 4 batteries. From other videos i saw on KZbin, it appears the blower , the batteries and charger are very very expensive. As long as my gasoline blower performs the same job at a fraction of the cost then I will keep it. PS....been working fine with no issues for the last 10 years.

We got the blower for 1299. The other set of batteries came with my lawn mower and leaf blower. But buying a 7.5ah by itself will run you about 350 a pop. I definitely agree on the length of time the gas powered blowers last. I have a Honda that is about 25 years old.

A corded version of a 2 stage electric like this would be perfect (for me), and also much cheaper to purchase than this. Also not messing with overheating, charging, degradation, etc. This cordless one is a beast, but will give me range/endurance anxiety every time. I don't think this here can last my 150 ft. driveway on single charge dealing with a foot of snow.

Very good review, a bit of electric bias, which we all should have but overall a good review of EGO in decent conditions. Without testing an EGO, Honda, Ariens, Toro or MTD etc., I can only give an opinion but... EGO will be the most expensive Electric powered tool out there. It’s a quality product but don’t expect it to be cheaper than gas. If you don’t have 7.5A batteries don’t expect them to be cheap either. This review was with a fairly large driveway and it needed 4 batteries to get through 6-8” of snow. I’m in Canada but here those batteries retail at about $330 each, so let’s say $250 USD x 4. And TBH you should have 4 batteries, prepare for the worst. Here we can get this EGO for $1,800 and it comes with 2 - 7.5A batteries and a charger. So let’s say what you saw in this video will cost you about $2,500 CDN or $2,000 USD. That’s a pretty steep price, is it comparable to gas? Sure. Is it more expensive? Absolutely, in fact you should expect to pay double for the same result. You won’t have to do oil changes or buy gas. You may run out of power, especially in extreme conditions, and you can’t really expect to get more than 3 years out of it. You could keep buying new batteries but this is also an electric motor, not a gas engine like your car or truck has. These are not built to last 50 years... You want 5 years out of this thing? Buy those extra batteries and follow the operating manual. Get new batteries after 3 years if you think it’s a good investment, but also it will get real tempting to replace after year 3 or 4, that motor just won’t run the same way. Also do a real comparison, $2,500 CDN will buy you a Honda, who specializes in Professional use. Ariens or Toro professional level products. This does not compare to those. It all starts with the size of the auger, it’s 10.7”. Similar to Toro and Ariens base models which are 11” and most MTD are 12”. For $1,800 CDN you can get the Ariens Deluxe 28 with 14” auger and 14” impeller. That’s a huge difference when you get a lot of snow plowed into the end of your driveway by city plows. It could be filled with ice, chunks of leaves, soul, grass, heck even cement or asphalt!! It’s nice to look at fluffy snow going through a snowblower chute, but you could shovel the fluffy stuff. You want a snowblower to handle the heavy stuff and be a good investment. Check it out, look at all the options, it might be really tempting to grab that Craftsman at half the price of this one, or better yet an Ariens or Toro that will last you 20 years.
@dissectingdiy
@dissectingdiy 3 жыл бұрын
A lot of good points made in this response. I appreciate the feedback. The snow might look nice and fluffy but it rained prior and was pretty heavy to shovel. I totally agree about longevity. The Honda snow blower you saw next to the ego is over 25 years old. It needs a new auger and they’re not cheap. I am hoping they can cut the cost of their batteries in half sometime soon.

@@dissectingdiy Unfortunately that's the major drawback to electric anything these days, current battery technology is horrible. Far too heavy and not enough power density, not to mention the cost. Electric is certainly the future, we're just in the stone age so to speak and who knows how long it's going to take for proper battery/capacitor technology to come out.

Electric POWER. Electric vehicles / equipment are just better. No noise, no emissions, less fuel costs, less maintenance costs. Gasoline and diesel are OLD polluting technology. So last century. Electric cars, electric trucks, electric buses, electric trash haulers, electric snow blowers, electric lawn mowers, electric snow mobiles, electric water craft, electric garden tools, electric mechanic tools, electric motor cycles, electric bicycles, electric scooters, electric farm tractors, electric construction equipment, electric delivery vehicles, ...... everything is going electric. No worries about starting after sitting for a few months. Gasoline and diesel vehicles and equipment always need repairs.

Strange given that I've used my EGO for the first three major snowstorms of the season (including one with 10" of heavy, wet snow) and didn't have a hitch, ran it for about 45 minutes straight. So, no, we don't have to go gas -- actually got rid of my gas unit for the EGO, and have zero regrets. Easier to use, clears snow as well as my old gas blower, and so much easier to maneuver due to its lighter weight.
