Q: Is it necessary to remove the cooler as well? A: No, it is not necessary. I removed mine as it was faulty and leaking coolant. If you choose to keep yours, make sure you fit both blanking plates at the same connections as shown to maintain neutral gas pressure in the cooler- if you only fit one blanking plate at EGR valve, the gasses from the exhaust manifold could cause a high pressure buildup within the cooler and it is not good.

I used this delete on my Passat PD 140 - instead of using the brass 90 degree pipe you can use a straight clip on pipe to replace the original angled one - part number 3B0122291C the original rear rubber pipe fits directly on and looks factory. Another good idea is map out the EGR from the ECU and at the same time delete the swirl flaps, you can buy a non swirl inlet manifold also map this out with a stage 1 but get a decent tuner who knows what they're doing!

The best set up i have been able to do/experience without spending any money is 1. swirl flap left in 100% open position by removing the swirl flap actuator arm from the body. 2. EGR fitted with restrictor plate or if due to MAF sensing /too much air coming in the air intake the EGR is stuck in closed position 😁.This set up is reversible at any time in a matter of 15 minutes and yields no black smoke, lowest diesel consumption i have experienced and increase power in all revs.😁 plus if u manage to drill thru the whole DPF its even better as u will never have backflow or airflow restriction in your exhaust system which cause the famous coke up of your engine and air intake.With these set up, you will drive your engine around with no diesel/soot smell from your exhaust which will avoid people from complaining and such.

Great tutorial. Just a couple of bits I’d personally do differently. Don’t use that exhaust paste on the blanking plate. That’ll dry up and eventually bits of that dry hard paste will make its way into the turbo making potential damage. Just use a blanking gasket instead without the paste. Also don’t use jubilee clips on coolant pipes. There’s good reason why you’d want a spring clamp, they expand on hot temperatures unlike the jubilee clamps, so the pipe can potentially cut into the edges of the jubilee clamps from expanding over time.

@JLOOOOOOOOOOO4 жыл бұрын
Hi I’ve recently bought a 58 plate Audi A3 Tdi. It’s having a problem with loosing coolant. There is no mixing of oil and coolant and no visual leaks of coolant. I am yet to pressure test for leaks. Who ever owner the car previously has bypassed the egr by simply adding a piece of pipe between the two hoses like you did at 5:30. So the egr is still fitted just bypassed. Is it at all possible that this is causing problems with the coolant and loosing coolant from there. After reading this out loud I think I may be wrong but any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks
@Adam_G4 жыл бұрын
There are two sets of coolant lines going to the cooler- the primaries (ones I bypassed at 5:30) and secondaries, the thinner ones. It's possible the coolant could either leak into the cooler via the secondary lines and then get sucked in with the intake air and burned up, or in the worst case scenario, enter the cylinder via a bad head gasket. If your car is idling and you open the coolant reservoir and it's bubbling, it's most likely the head gasket, if not, could be the cooler.
@JLOOOOOOOOOOO4 жыл бұрын
Adam G Adam G hiya mate thank you for replying. I realised after commenting I was a bit mistaken. So the egr is still fitted and hasn’t been touched, the cooler is also fitted aswell however that is what has been bypassed (by the thick pipes at 5:30) the coolant doesn’t seek to bubble and doesn’t seem to be mixing into the oil, so to me that says is not the head gasket. Could you advise me please what next step you would take. Thank you again for your help
@Adam_G4 жыл бұрын
@@JLOOOOOOOOOOO do you know if your egr has been mapped out? If so, since the cooler is bypassed, you could get rid of it altogether and put the blanking plates in. I’ve just realised aswell I forogt to mention in my original comment my engine is slightly different to this it is a 1.9 TDI if that makes much difference? Hello again mate. I'm leaving my cooler in, but how do I remove it to put the plate onto the exhaust manifold please? Also, how do I take the pipe out that goes to the inlet manifold? I've got the pipes out but it won't budge. Thanks
@Adam_G4 жыл бұрын
If you're leaving the cooler in, the antifreeze pipes should be flexible enough to allow you to unbolt the cooler and slide it upwards off the exhaust flange without removing them. The intake pipe (I assume you mean the one right before the EGR) is held by a thin Ω-shaped metal clip which comes off with the help of a flathead- the pipe should then slide out

@@Adam_G other videos say to put the blanking plate on the cooler where the pipe was. But I'll follow your suggestion
@Adam_G4 жыл бұрын
@@KOTalk no problem at all chap!! See when buying the plates they usually come in pairs of two. If you only fit the outlet, the exhaust gasses are going to pressurise the inside of the cooler and remember that flow is powerful enough to spool a turbo. Same goes for only blanking the exhaust, you'll have the charged inlet air trapped in the cooler

Hi great video, my EGR cooler has just sprung a leak so I’m considering doing what you have done. My question is where did you get you blanking kit? Also are there any electrical connectors going into the EGR cooler I need to worry about ? Thank you
@Adam_G4 жыл бұрын
Glad to help. The blanking kit was ordered from eBay and only cost a few pounds. The EGR is vacuum operated and so has no electrical connectors, you should simply blank the vacuum pipe.
@johnt2174 жыл бұрын
Adam G - thank you. Really simple to take off the cooler? And is it just a case of connecting the two large pipes together and the two small ones? ......will I need to get any coding done ?
@Adam_G4 жыл бұрын
@@johnt217 basically yes. However I would suggest to cut off the exhaust flange from your broken cooler and fit it on the top of the blanking plate. The issue is that the plate is thin and may buckle under high temperature thus creating an exhaust blow. A flange fitted on the top will prevent that. Do the coding if you want the check engine light to go away, otherwise the driving is unaffected
@johnt2174 жыл бұрын
Adam G - appreciate the tip. This happened to yours? Re there not thicker or better blanking plates available? Also what size are the two pipe connectors ?
@Adam_G4 жыл бұрын
@@johnt217 yeah, experienced some blow initially and reapplied the paste but it blew again under harder acceleration. The blanking plates are sold in standard thickness unfortunately. From the top of my head the pipes are roughly 20mm and 8mm, I could be wrong though.

What you think if I leave egr cooler inside, just blanking it and removing pipe, is there any downside to that?
@Adam_G4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely no downside if your cooler is working as it should (mine leaked). The coolant will simply circulate around it and return to the main system- and it's fine to leave it as it is.
@dariolinoo4 жыл бұрын
So I should put blanking plate just before cooler, right? Also can I keep the pipe in that case with just installing blanking plates on each side?
@Adam_G4 жыл бұрын
@@dariolinoo the exhaust blanking plate goes between the manifold outlet and the cooler inlet, yes. And since no gas is entering the cooler, the pipe can stay (provided you also blank the intake side)

@ilikeantea2 жыл бұрын
Some people do it for tuning purposes, it's one of the steps. You get only clean outside air into the engine, no recirculated exhaust. You 100% need to modify ECU map for this to be 100% legit. Others do it because the EGR Cooler (the one in the back of the engine) is very expensive when it goes bad. Maybe for you 400-500 eur for the EGR cooler is ok, but these cars are getting old and cheap.
