This series is so phenomenal, and this episode featuring Ruy Ueda took it to yet another level. Absolutely top shelf!!! I lived in Japan in my twenties and my wife is from Tochigi Prefecture and we spend our summers there every year. Running culture is so huge there, but so is hiking and mountaineering culture, and Japan is absolutely full of mountains. This video really added that dimension into the picture. The biggest reason trail running isn't already bigger there is that hiking and mountain climbing is already so well entrenched in the culture that trail running is different, and different is slow to be accepted in Japan. However trail running is certainly on the rise in Japan. Thank you thank you thank you for showing the English speaking world the depth and talent of Japanese runners, both on the road and on the trails and mountains!

He’s the real deal! He was so ahead of everyone. I was at the same race but I did the Kosci50. It was such pleasure to have him down in Australia showing what he’s capable of! Very inspiring

When people say “hill reps” they are usually mistaking them with hill sprints. An ultra distance trail runner might be doing 3-5 mile long mountain ascents on repeat

That was really really good, I don't know how doable but I'd love to see more content with trail runners

I watched this video because I was curious how "Ruy" is pronounced. Ruy's first name (瑠偉) is typically romanized as "Rui."

The professional soccer player Ruy Ramos is "Ruy," so that's where I got my inspiration from.

Interesting that he was injured frequently under the training regime of competitive high school track and found success in training at (what I assume is) a lower volume and intensity.
