When you were showing the inconsistancies on the other bracket as far as the angles and planes, I also saw that the old tooling was sharper, creating a sharper fold angle on the flanges. The new part had a more rounded fold. Very common issue--either its old worn tooling that they were using, or worn press dyes that they based their new tooling from....but you knew that :)

@@ElderlyIron He got them to work but wasn't Happy. We also had problems with front fender lower back corner repairs. Parts weren't right .... like your hinge bracket. About 1/2 hr work to make it right. A lot of cursing was done, Darn junk replacement parts. JJ

I love these old trucks, it's one of the vehicles I grew up working on, had them to bits and to a truck again, a 57, a 58 and 59, and a 57 1ton wrecker

I got two really good doors , except for the lower hinge, your video is spot on, order the left hand hinge first , one of the three nuts fell off when it was shipped to me , fixed that problem, & your right it doesn't fit properly, now that I've seen your video I can address that issue too, quality control on aftermarket parts sucks,, you spend the money seems like it should fit, if I could wiggle my nose

Jeff, If the hinge bracket is identical to OEM, the new manufacturer has to pay GM licensing fees, if the bracket is different slightly it's no longer an identical OEM part therefore no fees. Off shore body parts that are "CAPA" certified are an OEM fit and licensed others are a roll of the dice or as JC Whitney used to sell "custom fit" parts.DCH

And the lesson today is that with replacement panels a higher price usually just means that the vendor has a slicker website and higher profit margins than the cheaper options. The actual part to quote Cold war motors is just "The Same Old S##t" which will sort of fit, but will fit a lot better with considerable modification. The ability to turn a pigs ear into a silk purse comes in handy.

we used to apply that wax stick to the blade of a vertical band saws teeth before cutting aluminum, made for a smooth cut,and the teeth didn't get clogged up. like at!!!!

Evening Jeff, good to see you. I haven't got to the end of the video yet, but what was wrong with the original bracket? It looked nice, solid, and straight. I'd have been happier fixing the original bracket, even if it meant replacing captive nuts and so on.

I know what you mean about the fitment but, the only thing you should be concerned with is the bolt holes from front to back and the distance from the top hinge bolt holes to the bottom bolt holes. It's easy enough to get the remainder bent into shape so if one works they both should So take the distance from each hole from the front of the for and the top hinge and make the rest fit. Unfortunately that is all you can do to make things work out.

Love it !!! The guy they hired to "reverse engineer" those brackets was "Legally Blind" !!! Just don't understand how somebody could hire someone to do those brackets and accept that as "acceptable" !!! WTF ???? Or as my other KZbin friend would say "Well, I'll be DIPPED !!! A friend of mine in the "Street Rod" business told me some time ago "The only thing the aftermarket parts fit---------------- are the box they came in" !!! No truer words !!! So, next time you slaughter a pig, render some fat into "lard" and pour yourself a few prescription pill size containers full of it. A plumbers paste brush works great for applying it. Once the surface gets warm, the lard melts and goes right into the cavity. NOTHING works better as a drilling lubricant. Even for drilling stainless. Of course, the BIG trick with stainless is to GO SLOW and apply max pressure along with the lard lube. Worked with some stainless kitchen equipment fabricators decades ago who told me all the secrets about drilling stainless. The speed and lard lube being the biggest tricks. I was trying to mount outlet boxes to their counters and routinely burning the cutting edges off my drill bits then work hardening the already hard stainless. Their instruction changed all of that !!!
