It appears you forgot the rear output shaft bearing in the housing before you press in the seal and yoke. Explains the side play you were experiencing. Won't last long without it.

I've noticed that on my 64 Galaxie I get the maximum idle speed and vacuum at about 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 turns on my autolite 4100. Turning past three does not increase idle. I'm confused as why it does not start to stumble from running too rich?????

for not every having worked on an old OMC, you sure have alot of experience i can tell (with other motors). Wide open throttle on a 2 stroke wont make any difference on a 2 stoke, FYI. I cannot tell you how many people try to run or crank these bone dry with no oil! the impeller has to be changed i know this is old but worth mentioning. the electric shift was an excellent simple system, but the harnesses often need to be replaced from neglect. if its got 12v to the solenoid and the plunger isnt stuck, she will shift! amazing how many people think they are junk when they are so simple !

I figured you were either too busy with the truck to post, or possibly that they weren't getting enough views to make editing and posting more worth the effort. it looks like a person can put an electric fuel pump in series with a manual fuel pump, is that what you did? I am having air in fuel system been fighting it for 4000 miles. I thought I had it fixed it ran for about 3000 miles then sdid it again i fixed it again, or so I thought.
