It's really strange it still uses a driveshaft and solid axles instead of two electric motors (one in front and one in rear), or even better 4 electric motors (one at each wheel) for true 4 wheel drive with the ultimate control.

The light weight defender isn't light at all it is the heaviest defender ever built it is named lightweight because they could easily take it apart to through out of planes in parts

Fifth Gear, how old is this video? I haven't heard of these in a while? They were on trial as tractors and that's it. They're not going to make an EV Defender after this, but they will learn from it to make a typically urban placed, premium SUV to go against the Tesla Model X, Volvo XC90 T8, Audi Q5 and Q6 plug-ins, Mitsubishi Outlander and Patrol PHEV and so the list goes on, and on, and on...

Webby search for cherry pickers and company Loxam. I once worked for the company. On the day I started with them, I knew I wasn't going to be there long. Your comment reminded me...One day, the phone rang. It was from some firm who'd hired a small electric scissor lift. I heard about this as I was in the maintenance office - when the depot manager came in and said that we'd just had this 'breakdown' call. Depot manager said..... "They're complaining because it's leaking oil. ...... How can it, when it's electric ?

I think it is being discontinued in late 2015 because it doesn't pass emissions of Euro 6. Even with the most modern common rail Diesel it fails because its aerodynamics are so bad.

I think what 'Mr Me' was trying to say was: The Defender EV has regenerative breaking which is specifically designed to slow the car and at the same time produce power. These breaks are 'heavy duty' and last up to thirty times longer than regular ones (and are therefore much more expensive, and only available for regenerative cars).

I think electric vehicles are interesting, sure they must find a way to increase battery life and recharge speed, but I am positive they will do it not so long from now.

Just change source of the electric to an ICE short term and then to Fuel Cells (using NG as the source for hydrogen) long term to to get the advantages like a great torque curve and much greater efficiency, you get with an all EV drivetrain. But it would take a marketing genius to get the mucho off road crowd and truckers to accept the eco Fuel Cell and/or Electric could a better job than a diesel. Instead of the eco car the automaker developing them on now.

There is no study which has proven BEVs consume more resource over it's LONG 300,000 Mile lifespan based on a dirty Grid Mix like UK. Bolivia 🇧🇴 and Chile 🇨🇱 have so much lithium to power every car 🚗 bus 🚌 plane ✈️ house 🏡 ect I the world. In ten years the batteries they are going to make are going to give you 300-600 mile range and it’s going to cost you half of what gasoline per gallon cost. umm....electric ? nnno...not yet but there getting there problems to overcome : 1 - COST of ownership and maintenance like battery replacement (main) 2 - quick charging...how long does it take to charge ? 3 - adequate energy can it be used for large trucks ? 4 - the distant it can cover ....how far can it go ?....60 miles is kind funny... but i do like how quite they are...

the intervention of electric cars on a mass scale will most difinitly be ..SHOCKING ? lol hehe causes at by the time it is wide spread oil might just become not so affordable for most people so electric cars might step in to save the day in the right moment... the network it needs (stop stations) beside your home of course for you to charge your car is still under developed i think because some people dont want it out there ,...after all more electric means less money for them... more power plants....much more power plants is needed ...because if human make a complete transition to these cars multi billion industries will fall other will rise thats what happened to steam-powered cars/trucks/ships when oil with internal combustion came in and quickly kicked steam out or at least minimized it...

Pretty shit how you don't have a clutch for fine control of power delivery and the silence of the electric motor would piss me off. I think the clattery Diesels used in the Defenders sound great.

"don't have a clutch for fine control of power" the ignorance is amazing. Electric Motors have far greater fine detailed control. Especially modern AC motors which have High Frequency Inverters. Your go pedal is soo much more sensitive and programmable to have different power curves. Then ontop you can have Steering Wheel Paddles for Regenerative Braking which slows down constantly but not fully stop. That is a far better combination for crawling speeds. Also BEVs easily have way more torque easily 1,000lb/ft as the norm and quicker RPM modulation than Diesels.

What a fantastic vehicle for the adventurers among us, from Belgium to South Africa in 3000 days (yes you have to recharge it regularly) once in southern Spain there is not a single charging station left and once in Morocco you have to let camels pull this excellent 4x4, yes really green and super stupid. Of course it's the Landrover as Landrover has been for the last 35 years, one for the urban area to park with a wheel on the pavement and to go once a year to a meeting. Fortunately there are still real 4x4s on the market where you don't depend on western stupid ideas and that don't need a toolbox in the trunk (so not LandRover).

Thomas Cole Electric kicks engines ass except for the range which is a dismal 60miles which sucks. But on a 1/4mile electric is extremely fast too cause of the lack of need when i come to shifting gears.
