Comparing a $100k+ monster to a mostly stock land rover is stupid. The ev probably had some custom suspension work done as well so there’s no telling what she was actually driving. Put the same money into upgrades for the old diesel and the numbers game will be very different. Also her clear lack of experience off-roading means the hill descent issue was probably operator ignorance.

200 miles between fill ups my defender.. Unaltered has a range of 500 and thats on a 1996 defender with alterations thats 1500 miles and with external 2 to 3 times more

Electrical is for town. Diesel for the road. Our diesel TD5 went places deep into Africa those electric won't do. Just 200 miles.... Shame, no electricity points along the road. She has no idea on how diesel engines work... Diesel torque peaks are low and ideal. All terrain includes getting fuel over several days of long bad roads. Bring that car here for a test😅

Not really a defender anymore. Soft top no sides probley dosnt even carry a spare wheel to reduce the weight off battery. Plus is it repairable or dose need to go to a specialist and take a month wait

Fuck sake thats not a hill climbs my Discovery V6 Petrol can cruise up that at 800 rpm with no noticeable wheel slip I've taken it up 45 degrees plus with no trouble, it better than my old Toyota Land Cruiser and that had LSD Diffs front and back 😳 surprised? ... Land Rovers are the Ultimate Off Road Truck by far 🙌

On a Farm its not unusual to run out of fuel in a far paddock and have to call the wife to grab a jerry can of fuel to come get you going again, Landies as farm utility vehicles are not uncommon even here in Aus and I had a few cut down range rover classics in preference to ATV's, Quads or a tractor. I also fettled a monster golf cart for giggles as a fencing cart, electric with a fairly decent set of 6 120 Ah batteries for longevity and it was a monster on the farm tracks and a great shooting rig but......... It had its limitation regarding fuel source and was an absolute pain with flat batteries. The weight too was an issue and I cant see an EV landy being free from issues, As a trendy mopeabout? sure but the practicality particularly over time would outweigh its usefulness.

It doesn't stink, no noise, no gaskets, no clutch, no turbocarger, no gearbox, torque from rpm zero. In AUS put some PV panels on the roof and charge for free in the sun.

@@leenevin8451 EV's have no range and they can't be recharged away from roads. They SUCK in the cold. Actual offroaders routinely carry their own fuel. EV offroaders are only for show, wherever there are recharging stations.

@@dany1441 But Series Hybrid only driven by Electric Motors is the future of 4x4. Range just based on the amount of Fuel you can carry and massive finely controlled torque from multiple electric motors. That is superior to what ever Road legal 4x4 currently.

@@ZesPak Won't be watching any of it on Fifth Gear. I'm assuming most of the EV fans didn't cut their teeth on stick shifts, learning double clutching etc. They've missed out on a lot of the nuance of driving. PRND and paddle shifters may be quicker but but there is art in a well done shift. It's a waste of my time trying to explain it so I'm done here.

@@3ducs Shifting is an art but it's just not part of the EV future - EV's technically do not even have an 'automatic' transmission - they don't have any transmission at all. It does not mean that driving an EV is less 'real' then driving stick shift. EV's are just as old as ICV's, their history goes way back. They are cars in their own right, even if they are a lot easier to drive. But why would that be a bad thing?
