There's a comic, can't remember which one (Civil War, maybe?) where Cap & Spidey are fighting a room full of goons, several dozen armed mercenaries. The caption narration (Fury, I think?) observes their differences. He states that Spidey fights everything on the fly. He adapts instantly, almost precognitively, due to his reflexes & spider-sense. He doesn't strategize or plan ahead; it's not his style. It's all improv, basically. Whereas Cap is the opposite. He instinctively sees a dozen steps ahead, calculating trajectories & combatant positions. Every single move he makes is deliberate and sets up the next move, and the next, and so on. Calculated combos, essentially.

I am quite certain they based his power level of the version of Captain America from Marvel's "Ultimates" series, and not their mainstream universe. That version of Captain America is not "peak human," but truly superhuman, and possesses strength on par with Spider-Man -- he even briefly knocked the Hulk unconscious (BTW, I always liked that in the Ultimates universe, Hulk is _truly_ dangerous, and kills hundreds of people when transformed into the Hulk -- it honestly makes more sense for a rage-fueled being like the Hulk to be so unrestrained and violent). The movie version also has a costume based on Ultimate Captain America's. They also took the casting of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury from "The Ultimates" comic series; he had been drawn as Jackson there -- not looking somewhat like either; it was unmistakably Samuel L. Jackson, before he ever starred as Fury in a Marvel movie.

One thing I like about this scene is that it subtly hints Cap's intelligence. He's mainly known for his strength and bravery and stuff, but look at how he handled the situation here. He noticed suspicious behavior of the people in elevator: the sweating, rapid mumbling, fidgeting, etc. He could tell that more agents going in were actually cornering him. He figured out what was gonna happen without showing any sign of fear. Then he delivers an epic one-liner and obliterates them all.

Let's really look at what they accomplished here: An action scene in a very tight space, well-lit, no shaky cam, cut just quick enough to make it feel kinetic and not too quick as to confuse where things are spatially, featuring a solid one-liner, starring a hero that you can take seriously and root for despite his origin as a silly patriotic product of the time. Awesome. EDIT: Please read a couple comments down before getting your hams steamed by the word "silly". My dad served in the military for 30 years, I'm plenty patriotic.
@electrictroy20102 жыл бұрын
SILLY? The creator of Capt America said he was morally repulsed by the actions of Nazi Germany in the years leading up to the United States' involvement in World War II and felt war was inevitable. Fighting evil is not silly

@@electrictroy2010 Of course not, I love and appreciate classic Cap! I'm just referring to the general perception. "Before we get started, does anybody wanna get out?" The fact that he is sincere in this offer and probably would have let anyone who didn't want in on that moment out just makes it funnier. The lead-up to this is great too. First, Brock Rumlow and some of his agents get on the elevator and make small talk; Steve is suspicious once he notes their hands are very near their batons. Then a bunch of businessmen get on at the next floor and Rogers notices that one is sweating. Then, they arrive at a third floor... and the doors open to reveal three massive beefbuses built like MMA fighters who (like Rumlow) are STRIKE personnel, confirming Cap's suspicions that something is about to go down. They proceed to shuffle around so that he's surrounded. Even better is his slightly irritated look at all this when the third group gets in, as if he's more disappointed in their lack of subtlety than the fact that he's about to be attacked by his own allies. It's particularly funny when one of the final arrivals into the elevator gives the floor they're going to: Massive MMA-style STRIKE operative: Records.

@feranard3 жыл бұрын
Love the breakdown, did not get a good sense of the details until then: To further continue the analysis Rumlow isn't usually sociable so he's acting OOC. There's no good reason to have hands near weapons when on your home turf surrounded by friends and allies unless you're about to engage a hostile. Why would a businessman be sweating? They didn't sound like they were rushing to the elevator and even then, that's a little too much sweat for a short sprint. Also, records, lol, why would these guys go to records? And last, that seemingly dead silence when everyone was about to get the jump on Cap. That silence is a dead giveaway for an ambush on a primal level. "It's quiet, too quiet" comes to mind.

This movie is criminally underrated. This scene as well as the nick fury assassination attempt scene really made you feel like the whole world was against you. And lets not forget the imcredible winter soldier action scenes which really made him look like a ruthless, cold-blooded killer that will do anything for the mission.

You have to give Rumlow credit for being one of Hydra's best. Dude took a hit from Cap and got back up, then landed several solid shots of his own... and that's more than all the other guys managed combined.
@christofferjenzen787 ай бұрын
Amen. he had balls n skills. Some Cap stan here,,in his infinite worship said that it was silly Rumlow cold block or dodge Caps blows...I got so annoyed,I wrote this. "Of course it makes sense,two wrongs make a right. They made Cap alot stronger than the comics to justify big scenes,explosions and asskicking. Cap isnt the hulk,he can lift 1200lbs (550kg) and his strength and capabilities fluxuate like hell. Rumlow at this point has more experience in the field,he was at this while Steve was in deep sleep. He is the only capable,quickthinking and brave of that pointless elevator gang,kgb sucked. Quick thinking when cap is struggling to instead of start wailing on him,to kick up the magnet and incapacitate the arm. Since he is the secondary villain,of course hes to be somewhat worthy. And Rumlow is a god damn assassin with experience,he is knocked out if Cap lands two punches probably,he dodges them cause Caps moves were predictable and Rumlow had a strategy;swing,dodge,block,taze... Plus Cap kicked the rest of their asses so easy so it was a little shock to see someone know how to deal with him,albeit temporarily. Brock R can lift 800 pounds,so about 370 kilos. So weaker but no punk. Cap isnt really,never was,a superhuman,he was a frail,weak boy who got roided up....and considering you accept Cap holding off Thanos wo can lift...50 or 100tons,you cant fathom Rumlow lasting 11 seconds here? They are archenemies in the comics,its a rivalry Marvel movies respected.....and really,no one giving him props for not just that reactiontime but to have balls to fight cap alone? An exemplary henchman. And if there were six Rumlows vs Cap here,it would be curtain time. Just cause he isnt on Caps level doesnt mean he is not skilled and cant keep his cool in outmatched scenarios, Be a cap fan,just keep it real."
