Yeah, after all her shit-talking about hunting those who bear the rings, she should have taken her blade and offed herself instead of getting a damn DLC. In my "head canon" she dies atop Barabur, since we don't see her again in the rest of the main game. I played her DLC once out of curiosity and hated it because I could never get past her pomposity-turned-pathetic weakness and her betrayal of Talion.

Yeah, the one (IMO) bad piece of writing is this scene with Celebrimbor and Eltariel. I can't remember where I saw it, but one of the devs admitted she was only inserted into the story to act as a catalyst for Celebrimbor's betrayal. I actually liked her character up to this point and didn't care that she was a stuck-up bitch (if you read the Silmarillion, you'll see that pretty much all the elves of the First and Second Age were). She served as a good antagonist to Celebrimbor and his rings, while being somewhat sympathetic to Talion's plight. It's doing a complete 180 out of nowhere and going against everything she stood for that ruins it. Instead of giving her a damn DLC, there should have been a cutscene where Galadriel gives her a sound thrashing for her stupidity! If anyone deserved a DLC besides Baranor (which I thought was excellent) it should have been Ratbag!

even tho not Canon, I do think the writers really excelled themselves with the characters of Talion, Celebrimbor and Sauron. I really felt the writers of this game understood what kind of character Sauron was. Also the sombre story of Celebrimbor and Talion, if I didnt knew any better, I would think it was written by Tolkien himself. The dread and sacrifice Talion goes through, the fall of the mighty Celebrimbor, such stories are only found in the history of Middle earth

@immortal_jairo882 жыл бұрын
The stupid developers should have done a different character instead Isildur. His body was never found, not even Sauron found it. I do hate of what they are doing to the game and the story. Instead Isildur turning into a Nazgûl, why wouldn't developers pick Êarnur, the last king line of Gondor? He entered Minas Morgul to challenge the Witch-King and he never return nor anyone saw him ever again.

Yeah, but it didn't make sense nor was it even close to lore accuracy. Doesn't matter what "Sauron would do"
@nightdriver72162 жыл бұрын
But that's because they picked Isildur. He's an important character, the one who chopped the One Ring off Sauron's hand, and Sauron had a grudge against him. They did it for shock value. Also it works for the story since Isildur was a hero to Men. It's Celebrimbor's attempt to keep Isildur's enslavement that drives Talion off the edge.
@tylerellis90972 жыл бұрын
@@nightdriver7216 Then they should have used Earnur, the Last King of Gondor who’s fate is actually unknown.
@legionarybooks132 жыл бұрын
@@immortal_jairo88 I didn't mind them using Isildur to an extent, except the fact that he was dead and his soul would have already departed. Unlike Helm Hammerhand who (yes I know his story is nothing like the books) was still alive when Annatar / Sauron gave him a ring. I didn't even consider them using Earnur. He does get a couple mentions when Idril is describing some of the Gondorian artifacts. And I agree, the devs could have had a heyday with his story, which would have made more sense. I do get why they went with Isildur, because not everyone who plays the game has read the books, yet most have likely seen the films and will know who he was.

But then to have the last laugh, and have the one that destroyed your body, as your slave to do what you want with. The biggest problem with his game isn't the lore it changed so much, it's that it's very philosophy contradicts Tolkien's religious world views. Tolkien did not believe in using evil to fight evil. @@finyoung1261 No, Frodo was corrupted by the ring. He did not chiose nor ever desired to wield it as a weapon againsg the enemy. For something that is sadly non cannon I really think it could work in a way, only recently been playing Shadow of War but I love the story and the humanizing of Uruk Hai is technically not too far off the Tolkien path by itself ( and no not just because I like Ratbag and Ranger) as I believe he did say in his writings that nothing was beyond redemption but I could be wrong.

The Ring is a evil, powerful object that has a will of its own. When it has sapped its wielder of his/her decency, goodness, and self-awareness, when it has served its true master, Sauran, in whatever what the current wearer/vessel can, it abandons him/her by changing size, or by luring the object of his/her death. I do love the story and feel it is very well-written (well, except for Eltariel's betrayal out of nowhere) even though it does play loose with a lot of the lore, mainly timelines, which are extremely compressed. I realised that as soon as Gollum turned up in Shadow of Mordor, since Gondor abandoned the Black Gate about 1,600 years before LOTR (if I recall correctly), long before Smeagol was even born. The fall of Minas Ithil was a thousand years before LOTR, and the Gollum we see is the post-losing this "precious". But eh, though a bit of a Tolkien purist, I actually liked his story arc and took it for what it was. Heck, I even liked Shelob as the hot, Gothic witch, since I interpreted it as her spiritual, rather than physical form. Though Tolkien created the entirety of Middle Earth, he always viewed himself as but one teller of a greater mythology and actually encouraged other interpretations. Though that version of Shelob was certainly not what he had in mind, for some reason I think he would have at least been intrigued enough to appreciate the idea and her added backstory.

While I like these games Isildur in the books would never have fallen to Sauron. In lore he takes the ring more out of pride with the intent to use it for good, and his rule while he's in Gondor is considered to be benevolent if anything. When he inherits Arnor he's come to the realization that he's unable to control the One Ring, and so he decides to make a pitstop in Rivendell to speak with Elrond with the intent to give the Ring over to the Elves. He describes using the ring as "bringing him great pain" and if anything is eager to be rid of it. When they are attacked on the road he outright refuses to use the ring even at the urging of his sons, he only relents when his last living Son begs him to use it to escape. The Ring betrays Isildur over the fact that it really CAN'T control him (at least not as well as it might otherwise) and so it leaves him. When it does right before his death Isildur finds great relief it it being gone, not sadness or some desire to get it back. He's of course killed shortly after this happens. Assuming he WAS dragged before Sauron the Dark Lord would find it impossible to control him, as his will was profound. This isn't to say he was impervious to the Ring's evil, just that he was resilient to it.
@wilhelmu2 жыл бұрын
we can't know that. simlarilon doesn't go into psychology of isildur in that detail; the narrative you present is derived from unfinished tales, which were written post tolkien's death, and might be considered as canon as this game
