What most people forget, when they tell you about the Hutton Orbital outpost and the free Anaconda is that you have to land there in a large ship. Just take a Type-7, it's relatively cheap. If you manage to land it there, you'll get your shiny new Conda

Obviously folks haven't properly mapped the Proxima Centauri system. If you scan carefully you will discover the path to the large research station in the Oort Cloud or it's rough equivalent. Remember to pack full fuel tanks and enough beer of your choosing to get the crew there drunk to complete the mission and get your reward. (Yes yes I know it is a warning beacon in a military ordinance testing ground and the only 'people' are automated repair robots so the beer is worthless. Let the Noobs enjoy the experience for themselves dodging weapon systems designed to take down Stations up close and personal)

18:01 Jingles just because people show as lawless doesnt mean they're pirates! In a lawless system you need to scan them with a kill warrant scanner to see if they're wanted or not; in this section you were literally just murdering innocent miners and their escorts!
@Gibby34340
@Gibby34340 4 жыл бұрын
Actually, "lawless" means that nothing done to or against them won't be seen as a crime, or just won't be reported. You'll usually only see "lawless" NPC's when entering trespass zones and you trigger a defense response. It does seem very inconsistent though, I've killed "lawless" criminal NPC's at surface installations labelled and accrued a bounty for it...

I could feel the sinking feeling in my stomach reach its peak when I heard that second boost while you were trying to request a landing at Liz Ryder's base. 300+ tons of ship full of explosives sure as hell doesn't come to a stop gently. This is why whenever I'm making planetary approaches or landings, I always, always let myself take the extra 20-30 seconds to ensure a shallow landing trajectory. In both game and in real life, the laws of physics are a cruel and heartless bitch if a mere mortal gets cocky with them.

I'm enjoying your E:D series and it got me back into playing (although maybe a bit late seeing as they've stopped with things like Galnet acommunity goals). Could you at some point mention EDDN (Elite Dangerous Data Network)and EDMC (Elite Dangerous Market Connector). Al those sites like Inara and EDDB get their data from the EDDN, which in turn gets it from individual players who are running EDMC in the background. EDMC uploads System, Station and market data every time you dock at a station. New players may not realize that the EDDN and EDMC exist or that those sites don't hack directly into the background simulation. The more players that use EDMC the more accurate those sites become and the more up to date the information is.

Bi-weave shields made me laugh, just take D class shields they are lighter. You used to be able to buy way more of it and so it turned into an extremely, stupidly profitable way of making credits. All rares (including Lavian Brandy) have a fluctuating supply limit (per CMDR) based on the controlling faction state. One way around the supply limit is to have a friend help you. If they buy the limit and fly out past 10 km (to avoid fines), they can jettison and abandon the cargo. You scoop that up and they go back and buy up another load of the rare good. That's how Hutton Truckers fill up a ship full of mugs and gin out at Hutton Orbital.

G5 shield boosters, the most OP things in Elite. Jingles: nothing essential. Also, I can't wait, Jingles. On your way to Colonia which will you do first? Crash terribly into a planet, break your FSD in those neutron stars, or call the fuel rats? Aaand a little PSA: there's a carrier selling landmines above that engineer (or was a bit ago when I happened to need it). Demands a pretty penny, but well worth it.

Presently toying with Coloinia to see if that will help me get close to Elite in exploration. For the 5k required for the engineers I actually did ~7.5k each way (over several sessions) - was 136 jumps each direction, don;t think I did more than 100 at a time (think I got about 50% on the Pathfinder level). Didn't know about the Hutton Orbital mug - when you mentioned it I did think about doing the slog to get one to take to Colonia until you mentioned that was another prank (not for me as it was more the distance thing, not expecting to make money).

That's one of the really infuriating things about Elite's flight modelling. Even with assist off you maximum momentum is capped in space. Go into the gravity well of a planet though and that cap disappears. I once lost an absolute fortune smashing an Anaconda into the surface at over 2km/s after a glitch dumped me 200km from the surface and I flew down manually.

Engineering-wise, I am about at the same stage where Jingles was when he made those recent videos. You can get pretty good jump ranges on a Anaconda, even at that stage. I build one that has all the essential stuff for long range exploration, except a SRV hangar, but including 2 small repair modules, a repair limpet controller and a small cargo space for repair limpets and still gets a unladen jump range of 77 light years. With a cargo of 16 limpets, the range is still 73 LY or so. You can do that by unlocking the Guardian FSD Booster and by going really small and minimalist on the other modules. I only got a 4D power plant, a 1D power distributor (which means I can't boost, but it is enough to supply every system in normal use) and a 4D shield generator. The drives are undersized too. All those undersized modules have the added secondary benefit that the ship runs really cool. The regular resting and cruising temperature is 20% and you can fuel scoop as much as you want and the ship never goes over 68% temperature. I did the 5000 LY engineer unlocking trip in it and I never saw steam rise from the dash board once, despite all the scooping I did. Also it takes like 3 to 4 seconds to cool down from 60% to 20%. Because of that great heat management, I could have gone with a much smaller and lighter fuel scoop and could have increased the jump range even more, I suppose. I don't consider the lack of a SRV a drawback. The chance that I find something super interesting on the surface of a planet is minuscule and if it would happen, I could bookmark the planet and come back later with a SRV. And honestly, what can you even do with a SRV - exploration-wise - that you can't also do hovering at low altitude in your ship? You won't find any new mineral to collect that nobody ever heard of before, or anything like that. Especially the route to Colonia is such a much traveled path that you won't find anything new on your way there anyways, unless you make a significant detour. I also don't understand why people take additional fuel tanks on their exploration ships. With the regular tank my Anaconda can make 4 max distance jumps. That is over 300 light years. Even if I carelessly do 3 jumps before worrying about fuel, that still leaves me with a 150 LY diameter bubble of space to find a scoopable star in, even more if I would do several smaller jumps instead of one big one with my last 25% fuel. What is the point of schlepping around additional fuel?
@AshenVictor
@AshenVictor 4 жыл бұрын
You can probably downsize your powerplant further. You could in principle go down to a 2A Overcharged 3/Stripped but for a long range ship I use a 3A Armoured 1/Stripped. More power than a 4D, 50% more integrity as it's the only module you can't repair, for nearly half the weight and even less thermal load (A rated power plants are more heat efficient, and D rates are less weight efficient than other modules). I use a Krait Phantom not a 'conda though, which means I can boost on that 1D distributor now it's engineered to Engine Focus 4/Stripped, the Krait's cockpit is fantastic for being out in the black, but the same powerplant would work. And yeah, you never need additional fuel tanks. If in doubt just filter the star map to the main sequence whilst you travel (OBAFGKM) and you'll always land somewhere scopable. (Personally I like to leave out class M as well, low chance of earthlike worlds on those).
@TrangleC
@TrangleC 4 жыл бұрын
@@AshenVictor Yes. Thanks for the advise. If I remember correctly, I even tried using a 3A power plant, but I think even when engineered, it didn't provide enough power for the repair modules, so I went with the 4D. Yeah, the Krait's cockpit is the coolest. Would like to use it, but I wanted to go for the maximum possible jump range, especially since it was mostly for that mandatory 5000 LY journey and exploration was an after thought. I really could have not taken the repair modules and limpets. Didn't even come close to needing them and I think the only thing that could have made me need them would have been if I crashed into something while jumping into a system and I don't even know if that is still possible. I played the game for a few months back in early Beta and then quit and came back to it recently, almost the same as Jingles, just with the difference that I wasn't a Alpha backer. Back then I did a longer exploration trip and if I remember correctly, it happened to me that there was a secondary star in the way, on my jump vector to its bigger sibling, when I jumped into the system. Even then I'm not sure anymore if the engine damage I took was unavoidable, or whether it was heat damage that occured because I didn't use the heat sink fast enough. I saw more experienced players use repair modules and repair limpets in their exploration builds, so I thought "Better save than sorry." and aped it, but the more I think about it, the less I think I need that stuff. Those experienced players also used additional fuel tanks and as you agreed, they don't make much sense either. Maybe when you operate at the outer edge of the galaxy, where stars are rare and far between, but even there I think you can just be careful and plan your jumps ahead properly, as you said. I'm not 100% sure anymore, maybe I was just too dumb to know what I am doing, but I think back in Beta, 6 years ago, the galaxy map did not show you what kind of star you were jumping to and you had to arrive to find out. Whether that was actually the case or whether I just wasn't using the map correctly, it was pretty harrowing to try to navigate my way at the sparse rim in a Type 6 transport with barely 30 LY jump range, hehehe.
@AshenVictor
@AshenVictor 4 жыл бұрын
@@TrangleC The secret with AFMUs is to turn them off. You never need to run your AMFU and thrusters at the same time because you have to turn modules off to repair them, so you can just turn your thrusters off, repair everything, and turn them back on last. Don't bother carrying limpets either, you can synthesise them if you need them.

As to the annoying systems... there were some really mindbogglingly hard to reach planets in Frontier: Elite II and in Frontier: First Encounters too. Can't remember the name of the moon or planet which was in an utterly insane quaternary or quintenary system. The joke was that it had had utterly insane rotational speed. If you had a ship with insufficient acceleration (like a Imperial Courier...) you simply could not catch it. And it with bad enough luck you ended up being on its route as the wrecking ball of a planet just whacked through your ship. The only way to 'catch' it was to try to get close and then using the maximum time acceleration hax.

@@Ryuk1shi No. I do not know what happened. But once the docking computer kept ramming my Python into the control tower for the landing pad i was supposed to be put down on. If i did not have any shields at that time it would have hurt, a lot. It battered down the shield to a third strength before it finally stopped retarding and realized that it did something wrong and finally landed the ship. This have happened a few times since then with various of my ships when the docking computer for whatever reason goes full retard out. So no, no ditching the shield generator ever for me. It may just be a bug in the game, but it will still either kill you or give you a fat repair bill before you have time to turn the docking computer off if you do not have a shield up and running.
