Interviewer: "What did you think about the hills?" Eliud: "The hills are there. They are good." 😂
@ajwpdx

Seriously though, the fact that Eliud sticks to the training without overthinking things is part of what makes him so good. This comes out also when he says "injuries are a part of training". It seems he keeps his head down, follows his coaching, and doesn't seem to get caught up in the things that he doesn't need to obsess about.

The interviewer seems like a negative person. He concentrated on injuries, retirement, hills, failures, etc. He had a unique chance to get some insightful, inspirational, wise messages to fellow runners from one of the greatest runners of all time but wasted his time on silly stuff. Kipchoge handled it gracefully but his short answers showed he was annoyed. He could have asked how confident or energetic he felt, his support crew, how many miles he has run per week, his diet, plans for the weekend, shoes, pacing strategy, breaking 2h someday, upcoming races and plans. Regarding why running Boston now: it is not the easiest course. So running other marathons was obviously a priority for him if he was to break 2h. It looks like it is going to rain that morning so let's see what he is able to accomplish.

What a wholesome guy. I feel like he embodies what it means to be honest and genuine, but optimistic and humble/kind at the same time. I have no doubt that it reflects his inner dialogue, which is probably why he's able to be so mentally strong. In a world of people that tend to be hyper critical of themselves and others, full of judgement, criticism and limiting beliefs, he manages to stay true to himself and the attitude that helps him be able to accomplish greatness.

Thanks for posting this interview. The interviewer appears too fast to keep asking questions like he is already trying to hurry up and roll the next one off even before the current question is answered. Take a few moments to pause which might give Kipchoge more time to add in a few more details about his plans or training. Even Kipchoge,s answeres seemed too short and to the point because the questions were fired out fast.The audio sounds like the interviewer was on a microphone which might be because of a press conference but the interview would seem more relaxed up closer without the microphone maybe outside providing that it wasn't in a crowded area with traffic and the conditions permitted it in a tranquil way. The interviewer had a chance to interview the great, even historic, Eliud Kipchoge, but his questions were trite. But wait, how many of us wouldn't be star struck, reduced to asking obvious questions, or even silly questions, at such a chance? My favorite was asking Eliud about hills, or injuries. Eliud hardly understood the question, as hills and injuries are two things that come with the territory, a territory Eliud has ruled for years.
