The ignition trilogy was one of my favorite sagas, and still is. Something about the stakes and the old characters in new forms and situations made the investment for old fans much greater. I personally like the Inika/Piraka build for the most part. 2007 was like a dream come true for a kid like me, who had an obsession with underwater life, and the builds and variety were great. 2006 had great characterization for the piraka. The Barraki are great sets, and the Mahri did a decent job of having unique profiles. 2008 was a decent year with fun sets. That's my review. What do you think the best/most successful year was for Bionicle overall?

Tbh ignition triplogy is kinda star wars prequel truology, the good guys end up playing into the main evil mastermind's plan. Too bad we didnt get a glatorian triology and a LOTR Return of the King like battle against teridax in a movie. Tbh bionicle g1 would work as a movie franchise if done from 0, the toa Mata-Nuva triology, Ignition triology and Mata Nui triology

So much nostalgia... Can't I just go back to summer 2006 and get all the Titans I never had? My best friend and I became friends because of Bionicle. I love all of Bionicle, but 2006-2008 have always been my favorite. 2006 being the peak for me. I remember I would get my Dad's boom box thingy and I would play "Move Along" on repeat while I'd play with my Inika. Thank you Eljay

2007 and especially 2008's sets were my first set. When I was kid, I always thought it's cool to have them going underwater and even flying (Lewa's jetpacks are just awesome, so as Hahli's wings), I still do today.

Ignition trilogy was amazing as Action Figures. Giving the Mahri and Nuva environmental themes created a whole new way to play as you’d have kids pretending they could fly/swim

2007 and '08 will always hold a special place in my heart, being the two years that I got very into Bionicle, being most of the sets and following along with the story. (I also like '06, but that's mostly in retrospect). I personally never got tired of the Inika build, given its good articulation and aesthetic. I also appreciate so many sets using it, as it provided many pieces for MOCing purposes. All in all, probably my favorite part of Bionicle, nostalgia included.

What I love about this trilogy is the environments that took place. With it starting on Voya Nui as a battle on land against the Piraka. Then we go under the sea in Mahri Nui and fight the Barraki. Then we finally fight the brotherhood of Makuta in a battle in the sky. It was a well developed trilogy that I wish would get a respectful sequel but sadly bionicle ended abruptly.

by far the ignition trilogy is the best trilogy for bionicle. it give the aforementioned serious tone to the story and character development, the moment when matoro sacrifice himself to give the toa some time to prologue mata nui death, the great sets design that for me timeless especially for the barraki. Even the promotion was great with including bands like all american rejects and daughtry for the song and the spectacular short movies form the piraka prison scene to the toa ignika sacrificing himself to bring mata nui back from the grave. Dont forget the twist when makuta possesses the mata nui robot and shooting the mask of life into space. I have so much fond memories with this series and how they presents itself, its sad that this level of story telling complexity is somewhat diminished in the rebooted bionicle line...

It is definitely the best trilogy for Bionicle. But, it is really hard to say what would have happened from 2009 - 2011 if the line hadn't had to rap up so quickly. It seemed like 2009 set a new stage for something big later on, then they had to scrap that too late and make an ending that concludes the whole of Bionicle, and somehow follows the 2009 storyline.

If I recall from the comics, Konggu's melee weapon from 2007 was a dagger-like weapon that was shown in the comics, in the comics, Konggu threw away his melee weapon and replaced it with their "air-pressured Gatling guns" (sorry I forgot their blaster's names).

I consider 2006 to be the last solid year for Bionicle. Sadly, the Mahri and Barraki were getting fragile, their projectile-based weapons were a step-down from zamor launchers, and the Mahri didn't get canisters. They still looked good, but I don't have many memories of playing with them compared to the Inika/Piraka.

The Ignition trilogy was when Bionicle got supercharged... In ways both good and bad. The aesthetic design got more and more hyper-detailed and stylized and "serious". We got more gray and silver, more spikes and edges, more unique molds and weapons. We went from discs and rip cord spinners to guns and guns and more guns, to the point we got Toa whose only weapons were their guns. We went from weird creatures and gadgets to titans and motorcycles. The plot grew more and more complicated, with new factions vying for power and control and many simultaneous ongoing plots and locations. There were even alternate dimensions! It was an absurd expansion that in hindsight couldn't be sustained. Out of these three years, my favorite was 2007; the underwater theme and diverse canister sets just made it feel like such a breath of fresh air (Ironic).

I think Set wise? Its a bit of a merge, I prefer the years between the Bohrok years and the Piraka years. Those are to me the greatest bionicle years. Story wise The Ignition trilogy is simply amazing. So much build up in movies, comics, books and then to send it all off we get the reveal that “Mata Nui” was a giant robot and not only that Teridax lived! And he banishes Mata Nui out into the stars. What a finale Also dont get me wrong, The underwater and Karda nui wave was great aswell, mainly the Makuta and the Barrakki had amazing designs and we got the best Titan imo Maxilos and Spinax. However as you mentioned, the frankly lazy torso designs, the weird colors did impact my enjoyment as a kid.

The ignition trilogy could've continued for so much longer. They could've done environmental years for each element. Could've done one in a glacier. One underground, one in a desert, and one in a volcano. It honestly would've gone REALLY well. the mask could've just taken them all on a massive journey, with maybe the return of the toa metru. Mask of life restarts their life cycle and there could've been matoran versions of all the toa. Then they all would've had to have a full new journey, to become toa once again. Loads more enemies, titans and vehicles, and still even ended with the 2008 sets

Now I remember why I skipped this trilogy back in the day; because 2003 already featured a mcguffin mask; the mask of light. Then in bionicle 2; there's the pointless mask of time (which tahu later uses against the borahk kal) then while 2006 was a team of toa hagah that retreaved the mask of light, and there was a flash series you could watch online about how the hordika found said mask. so I was special mask hunted out so to speak. can't really blame me for hitting burn out. The inika IMO were ugly, though i admired the continuity of jaller and hahli becoming toa. The piraka weren't that great either (the rap was a huge turn off) but those titans though were so badass. When I saw 2007 i was kind of impressed but heard a lot how bad the lime pieces were. Barraki were excellent looking though. I fell in love with them when i saw their commercial backed up by cryoshell. Then in 2008 it went back to ugly, and those vehicles as amazing as they are, were too damn expensive. the twist ending though was great.
