At the school were I am learning Muay Thai Kickboxing, when we spar with others, The music played in the background is Classical music. Mainly because it is mellow. They do this to keep the sparring mellow, cause with rock or some other genres it gets you excited and next thing you know you are energized and not paying attention to how hard you are hitting, etc.

Metal, 80's metal, glam metal, power metal! Its so great! I am a very good musician and guitarist, and i appreciate the theory and thought of every chord, and every note. I analyse it, and i love to hear and create music that people recognize, that has power and gives people shivers. I love it, and i do so ,because it is so much skill and thought put in to it.

I watched this video 5 years. And to this day, Elliot's words are still more true then ever. I used to not be so confident and had very low confidence and no trust in myself. Now mind you my confidence is still not very high, but I do trust myself and my skill more than ever now. It took my first break up for me to truly take the words of Elliot from this video into action. Since the break up, I listened to alot of songs that basically spoke about climbing to the top to be the best you can be or even be the best if you can. And I just kept listening and listening and every time I heard one of these songs I would allow myself to just be sucked into its meaning and it slowly but surely built up on me over time. Thank you Elliot. Of all your videos this video had the greatest effect on my life.

I remember back in my high school painting class the teacher would play classical music. It didn't help my painting skills, unfortunately, but it was relaxing. So recently, I started to listen to it (mostly Mozart) and it's amazing how it'll melt your mind ( in a good way). I like to listen to it just before bed as it makes it easier to fall asleep. Just pop your headphones on, lay your head back and focus on the music.

I Must guard my heart.. my mind from so much of the media and the music in the industry bc it impacts me so intensely. It aefx my dreams- spirit- cognition- mood- thought patterns- etc. I quit watching tv and I am very selective abt. the music I listen to.. filter what goes into my mind. I tend to get stuck on a particular song or group until ive worn it out bc it is a safe place for me to go for a time. In this regard, I miss alot of good music that exists for my lack of knowledge and need for safety. Awesome Elliot 🌟

This was exactly what I have been experimenting with myself lately. I used to listen to music with sad love songs and songs that make you realize your solitude. I really got into the lyrics and started sympathizing. I even repeated parts or phrases as if they were my motto. Then I realized that maybe they are the reasons why I do feel lonely. I started to changing to progressive house but it didn't lighten up my mood the way I wanted it to. I now am starting to listen to classical music to not only educate myself but to look into myself and kind of "meditate" while listening to them. Idk if you made a video about it already, but I would love to watch you do a video on how to meditate. thanks!

I think this is a very foundational video from all the videos he uploaded. Very nice job. When I train I listen to a lot of (hardcore) UK Techno, Wu Tang Clan, Bone Thugs, underground DnB from the 90's etc. When I'm done training or when I'm making homework I listen to classical music like Vivaldi and Bach, Rolling Stones, The Doors. It really *stimulates* my way of thinking somehow. I can't explain it as well as Elliott :P, that's why I think this video is very foundational.
@sweetcheex10 жыл бұрын
I'm the same, I'll listen to metal and death metal training but then afterwards listen to mellow music or even rainforest sounds, it's interesting the way our bodies can excel almost at certain things just by something as simple as music tempo or loudness.

I can definitely relate to you, it really is crazy and at the same time very exhilarating to just think about how music can effect us so quickly. I am a couple of years older than you are but I must confess I have learned a lot from you already, and some of what you have said in other videos I wish I knew half of that stuff 20 or 25 years ago! I don't agree with everything you say such as that example of winning a girl you like by buying a bracelet worth 1000 dollars for her, even though it can always be changed back and you can get a refund, but in most cases I have been hard pressed to disagree with anything you have articulated in your videos. I've been a musician for fifteen years and I'm going to say it almost seems like I don't choose the type of music that really resonates with me at all. For me it seems as though I'm drawn to music that communicates the same feelings/emotions that I am avoiding. It allows me to actually feel those emotions and let them pass through me and when they do it's like that music no longer gives me that same feeling that it originally did and it's on to the next. It's not a conscious choice at all... And I love everything from Bach to James Brown, it's about feeling, and whatever your feeling or need to feel is what is really going to resonate with you. I always enjoy hearing your thoughts though brother. Peace

Hardstyle is not a genre, it's a lifestyle. Spending all my money on extreme high priced festival tickets. But in the end it's all worth it. Listening to Rush has gotten me into philosophy, especially Ayn Rands philosophy (objectivism) and their music made me a better independent person and very self driven. I’m still a very extroverted person (I just have a great personality and have the gift of making people laugh and feel comfortable around me) but I focus on myself more than anything. I love to read and learn and grow. But music definitely can change the way you think and the person you are. Completely.

I only listen two types of music to brainwash myself: savant, for intelligence, and thrash metal, for aggression. with savant (the edm producer) I feel I can concentrate better, and there is nothing more pleasant to crush an rm listening to sepultura or kreator. for the rest, all kinds of music, from dire straits to allan holdsworth.
@401Nero10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the savant tip! Check anamaguchi, kinda has a similar vibe
@bunimokjh10 жыл бұрын
Nero Oren thanks! I think the music goes with the moment, you can't be aggressive listening to bob marley, and you can't be calm listening to cannibal corpse, for example. for me the best is to know a lot of different music and bands to make a moment more pleasant, rather to listen only to something to achieve what you are listening.

Before when i was depressed i listened to generic songs with retarded meanings You know Lil Wayne and 50 Cent . While struggling through Depression i came across a song called Dear Insanity by Asking Alexandria. After hearing that i started listening to more of their songs. It really inspired me and before i knew it my Depression was gone. Ever since I've listened to metalcore and post hardcore music my life has progressed better than ever before. To anyone with Depression i'd recommend you check out stuff by Asking Alexandria, Jonny Craig, Black veil brides, Emarosa and Dance Gavin Dance back when Jonny Craig was in the band.

i've been listening to post hardcore for some time now and i think its time for me to chill the fuck out. i definitely agree with you. if you are depressed and worn out, it's time to listen to red wedding by the bled, but if you are completely amped up 24/7 like i am, perhaps it's time for some stevie nicks or some jamie cullum.
@hanzohasashi56039 жыл бұрын
No. The only cure to depression is the want to be happy. First you must realize NOTHING matters, not you, not this world, not cars money whatever. Its all pointless. once you understand that, you will find the beauty in everything, you will not fear death rather then attempt to fasten it. We have 28,352 days to live on average. Why waste it moping around? LIVE dont listen to what society wants you to believe or psychiatrists want you to do. Theyre only in it for the money

This brought my thoughts to another level, I could tell just by the music my ex girlfriend centered herself in what kind of mood and thought processes she was having at the time. I used it mainly (and to myself) to know when it was a good time to engage in touchy conversations about things that could cause irritation for us. I have extended periods of time where I myself do not listen to any music especially in the car, I find that rolling down the window and hearing the wind does wonders for my state of mind. Thank you for posting Elliott.

I really liked this video Elliot. Me and my brother always felt that our music preference changes with who we are and who we want to be at that particular moment in our lives. We were never the kids that stuck to one genre of music. We used the different genres to help us in life. You are right when you say it is like the chicken and the egg. Sometimes the music comes first and pushes us into what we are becoming, and sometimes life situations comes first and then your choose the music to match it. Keep it up Elliot.

@MrGuppy710 жыл бұрын
You have to be careful when using the term EDM. Even though its used to some up the many forms of electronic music it has accumulated a lot of negativity because of the way the music industry has used it. I think its better to actually say the genre like house, deep house, tech house, progressive house, big room house, trance, dubstep etc and then the artist like eric prydz, above and beyond, richie hawtin, maceo plex, fehrplay, guy gerber, henry saiz etc EDM is pretty new and its has a lot of misconceptions about it. If people only knew how far the rabbit hole goes.

I listen to everything as well, bach, mozart, danny brown, death grips, mastodon, casualties, manu chou, neurosis, tool, pink floyd. a lot of stuff, but I like aggressive music. and it helps me as you say "fuck the world" right now I'm working 2 jobs 12 hours a day. putting a film scoring studio together. Remission from mastodon is keeping me awake and making me work faster and harder, get more hours, more money, more supplies. it works.

I listen to most of the music you listen to as well. I love all genres mostly. I personally think it's boring to only listen to only one genre. I can't handle anything without diversity.

Ive got specific songs that make me "lose it". When i put them on, I AM Unstoppable. Absolutely nothing can beat me. I am free. Unhinged, and calm at the same time. I will run sprints until i puke. I will pr in my lifts without any shed of doubt. Music is an extremely powerful tool. For example "What I've Become" by lamb of god. I feel like a steamroller with no brakes when i hear it. Like i could literally plow through a brick wall. I recommend finding your own niche and using it to your advantage. Its amazing and it feels wonderful.

Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk, Coltraine, Bird, Dizzy, Hancock, etc... These were the artists I was listening to when I was 13, I am a Trumpeter that played in Jazz Orchestras, Quartets etc.. Very unusual for a 13 year old Scottish Girl.

After mentioning strictly mainstream artists, Elliott says not to let popular music dictate what you listen to...
@777Theory10 жыл бұрын
hahaha I thought the same thing lol This guy is talking about Jay Z and Eminem as "poets" Yet he never mentions Jimi Hendrix,Miles Davis, so many other REAL ARTISTS... He clearly has NO CLUE when it comes to music. He really should just stick to weight lifting. smh

Samb Aa Nah, I completely get what he is saying. I just think its funny how he thinks that the artists that he listens to aren't pop.
@777Theory10 жыл бұрын
Samb Aa Honestly,I get what he was TRYING to say... However,I really just think he is clueless when it comes to REAL ARTISTS AND MUSICIANS. lol
@tyuiop12312310 жыл бұрын
777Theory Ryan Bowers Eminem might be "pop" nowadays but when he came out he was something people had never heard of. Jay Z, in fact, is a hard working guy, you should look into what he really is and what he has done. (apart from few eminem's tracks I don't like their music). "Real artist" is a bullshit term, it should not be used, talented people are talented, whether you like what they put out or not. And just to point out, I'm not saying every mainstream artist out there is a great artist, talented nor 'real'.

I have pretty eclectic tastes, alternating regularly between rap, rock, reggae, reggaeton, edm & funk based on the mood I'm in, but I'm going to experiment with this now & become more focused in my listening for a while.

My invitation once agin is to be aware of how the music is affecting you, ask yourself is this who I need to be in order to reach the goal I have set for myself and if they are not aligned. Make better choices, not better choices based on what other people had told what is right and true, good and bad but based on how it is helping you become who you need to become. Elliot Hulse
