The latest revelations that Google's AI chatbot service Gemini is distorted to radical progressivism is a reminder of the political manipulations of Silicon Valley. This is part of long story, one we know well, from the infamous 'Twitter Files' to politically correct Chat GPT.
But what's really going on behind the scenes? And can anything be done about it?
Dave Rubin is one of the original political KZbinrs, who has gone on to build the Locals social media platform as well as be a part of the Rumble alternative video platform. He was a 'Twitter Files' journalist, invited by Elon Musk to investigate censorship at the social media giant Twitter.
I sat with Dave at his studio in Florida for a deep dive. What has he learnt by his peeks behind the curtains? And how is his fight back going? Can Big Tech be overcome?
We also looked at what this all meant for the upcoming 2024 Presidential election and the future of America.

Activist culture always seems to swing too far before coming back. I was an environmentalist activist in the 60s and 70s. We were alarmed at the Cuyahoga river catching fire and the harm that DDT was causing. But today, if they had their way, the majority of humanity would have to be disposed of for the sake of a perfect environment. Disney had what was, functionally, their own county. The Reedy Creek Improvement District. They paid no property taxes, they didn't contribute to infrastructure expenses in Orange and Osceola counties (which were substantially higher thanks to their presence), and I believe they got a sales tax break (didn't give everything they collected to the state). They also controlled (maybe still control) the local media, bribed the hell out of the Orlando city council and Orange County Commission. In fact one of their first acts, before they even built the place, was replacing the mayor of Orlando. They are and were the Axis of Evil, and I don't even give a crap about the woke stuff.

A few things. Disney didn't specifically have privileges. When Walt Disney purchased land for the Disney World park, it was basically unused and unincorporated, without any municipal infrastructure. Given many of the negative consequences Disney endured with the building of the Anaheim Disneyland Park, he thought it wise to petition the state to give him greater control over the property and the businesses which were built there. This would prevent local, county, and the state government from using their power to control his operations. Disney was a rabid American, yet he understood the weaknesses of the American system, and wanted to hedge against them. He would never have dreamed that a pro-American business which was probably the most patriotic entity of its time would eventually come to represent the opposite of everything Disney believed in. As for Trump, it may be my imagination, but it appears the rhetoric against him is quieter in 2024 than it was in 2020. It could be that, given the direction the world has taken since Joe Biden took office, people are having second thoughts. It could be that a number of people who screamed against Trump and his policies have cooled down, looked around, and realized that they were better off under him than they are under Biden. And, regarding what Trump managed to get done in office, that has been greatly underplayed and underreported. For all the noise which was heard during his term, Trump did get a remarkably large amount of policy done. The problem is that a president simply cannot enact more permanent policies and effect change in a single term. And when a candidate is running for president, their plans are formulated assuming an 8 year window. If Trump wins in November 2024 is one thing, but what happens in November of 2028 is just as important.

It’s not just a question of source material and something that many people seem to have missed, Gemini was manipulating the response partly because before the response was provided, it was manipulating the question. Adding descriptors to reflect their ideology. I do agree that there will be no solution of a few months.
