Yep, and after a certain point, you just expend more mental energy (and money) on arguing with a chatbot that barely even understands the world than it would take to actually write the code yourself. GPT-4 is still prone to that, just sightly less. Given we're already running out of text to train this thing on, the only improvements I see in any near future is optimization, which I find more useful than scaling, since you can basically download a lossily compressed version of the entire internet to do stuff like browse an entire hallucinated internet set in a given setting you've described in the prompt, or maybe just some simple document search and idea generation. If the hype finally dies down, we might start actually exploring what this thing's good for, instead of pretending we've made an AGI.

5:46 i know it's not really the point of the video, but this is a complete misrepresentation of how science views the hard problem of consciousness. the reason "science can't wrap its head" around it is because nobody can. that's the point of the problem. and no, science doesn't "pretend its an illusion". the problem is well acknowledged within the scientific community and although "its an illusion" is indeed one of the proposed "solutions", it is far from being the dominant one. at least in the field of neuroscience. that is because science acknowledges its limitations and we avoid jumping to conclusions on things that simply cannot be studied in a meaningful way. none of this however means that one unproven solution ("metaphysics"/"soul") should be accepted over another unproven solution ("it doesn't exist") or the lack of solution (from those who acknowledge the problem's existence). the answer, unfortunately, is that we probably will never know the answer. otherwise great video, but that section sounded like you're painting scientists as too dumb/ignorant to see an obvious truth, when in reality you're oversimplifying one of the most complicated debates in the field. i believe this will only serve to further people's distrust in science, so please avoid such inaccurate characterizations of the topic.

As someone who's studying artificial intelligence as my major, I can say with confidence that AI looks better than it actually is. ChatGPT 3.5 sure is good in textual stuff for essays, it can be a faster way to "google" things or help you to explain things you don't understand, but when you're studying AI and read the literature, you will learn that AI is far off from what we want it to be. AI is the study where our goal is to mimic humans, inspired by how our own brains works, how we learn, how we process information, and we have made tremendous efforts that resulted in models like ChatGPT, but this is far far far away from taking over jobs. AI is always assisting a job, but not carrying the job, but people believe the opposite. It makes way too much mistakes because there are many problems in AI that we still have no idea how to code into a model because we don't even know how humans are processing or learning specific information (but is studied by fields like cognitive psychology, also part of the major). I already have a background in computer science and can also confirm that there is so much work in this field, it is uncanny. Just choose a major you love and go for it. AI won't take over your job.
