@@kevinlin431 Suprised I caught this in time. Yes, there will be a free slot on the one that comes with 8. I would get it and see which ram is in it, and try to match the spec. If not, any same-speed 8GB DDR4 SODIMM will work! Just gotta pop the bottom off and there is a slot.

Saw this on another device, came back just to leave this comment. Your contents are AMAZING. Super informative. I love the attention to detail. I don't know where else I can get to hear the fan noise properly, see a full comparison chart of thermals, and fps for 20 different games. Keyboard typing showcase was awesome too. Thanks, Aftershock told me they will sell this chassis in future in Australia, but you can buy internationally from Eluktronics if you need something now. Helios 300 is a rip off in Australia, the Y540 is priced well here, generally anywhere from $400-600 cheaper.

Thank you for review! I wonder was your unit with that Grizzly Thermal paste or just regular unit? When I originally heard about this laptop I looked like the machine I may get for myself, it was looking ideal in all respects, but that was before I find out the size and weight of it's PSU... wish they had embedded ability to charge it via PD, as otherwise considering it's poor battery life you have to carry 2.5kg all the time, not just unit itself which makes it less interesting, so I'm waiting for appearance of G14 even that Eluktronics are still on my list, maybe they would make a 14" model at some point with PD too...

No, they're saying the power brick is a bit under the neccessary voltage in order to keep the laptop smooth.

I have the helios 300 with rtx 2060, playing doom gives me about 1h30 and light work (firefox/libreoffice) gives me between 4 and 6 hours so pretty good battery IMO

The battery of the helios seemed fine for the specs from memory. The Triton was tested with higher specs, even with Optimus the discrete graphics still affects battery life and it does swap over to it at times.

Another great video, Jarrod. I hope clevo makes a mag 15 model with an AMD cpu (and maybe GPU) this year. I'm ready for a portable laptop with desktop level performance. I've had a plethora of i7s over the years and they just cant cut it. Plus they run really hot as you've shown here. 2020 is hopefully an exciting year in the laptop space.

No problem, from memory the power and thermal limits are higher here, my guess is because Intel required lower limits to keep the chassis cooler in the mag-15, that probably translates to better performance here but hard for me to fairly compare without having both with same spec.

Great video and information! I’m looking for a laptop for school and Oculus Quest with Oculus Link. This light and powerful Max-15 is very attractive. But its usb-c is data only. Oculus Link needs both data and power I believe. Will it not power at all even 5v?

Not actually sure on the specifics of the Type-C port or what's needed for VR, thought it also got the display signal over Type-C? Either way probably best you contact Eluktronics if you need to confirm before purchasing.

I miss the Surface Book keyboard typing experience and quality. The feedback and sound of some keys are a bit different. They should implement the "sticky" FN key as there's no option to enable it. Keys are coated on top with a "touch" rubbery material, very common nowdays, but it gets oily very easily and it isn't a durable material in my opinion for parts like keys, where they're stressed mechanically on the surface in a continuous way. Also the backlighting isn't very good and you can't set white colour. One big downside for me is the backlighting implementation. As far as I've tested, it works just only via software, so there's no hardware standalone implementation to manage the keyboard. This means if you don't run the dedicated Control Center software you can't turn on the backlighting on at all. Of course this choice cuts production and engineering costs and that's why prices for these machines are lower than competition!

Loved the review. 15' Chassis feels like the perfect size for a laptop in terms of portability and power. Having the option to add liquid cooling metal is great!! I really wished there was an option for asus as well, my gx502gw gets pretty hot while gaming or working. I think having optimus is quite nice for battery if you are in a coffee shop doing light work or surfing. Still I think the Max 15 is awesome for the price!

Haha sorry, I have a MAX-15 vs MAX-17 comparison coming soon so that should answer that. Higher tier GPUs with higher thermal limits, so probably outpeforms MAG-15 if you're just gaming. MAG has mech keyboard, full size SD (MAX is micro) and Thunderbolt (max-15 doesn't have that, but 17 does).

The full review of the 17" will be up next Monday, the battery life is way better, one of the best I've tested in any gaming laptop and even cleaner design (just all black with no logo) but a bit bigger so less portable unless your bag can take a laptop that size. The MAG-15 is also worth a look at, otherwise good game performance + battery for that + not looking gamery, Gigabyte Aero might also be worth looking at, razer blade is similar to the others performance wise but probably over priced, same with ASUS GX502.

Fair enough. I've heard that the 2060 benefits from the Eluktroboost but the 2070 does not necessarily in it's GPU, how accurate is this? And does that mean the 2060 can boost up to close to the 2070? Also on that note, does that mean upgrading the cooling as you suggested allow the GPU to boost?

I think the GX502 would probably still have an advantage in most cases for being able to disable Optimus, on average I find that alone typically offers a 15% performance boost.

Is the higher FPS with RTX off due to the games used for testing not supporting RTX technology or does RTX being on require more CPU/GPU power from the laptop, hence, lower fps?

No probably not, not worthy of a whole video. You just change the values exactly the same as undervolting through software, only difference is in the BIOS.

Haven't had a chance to compare or test any 4900H laptops so can't say without guessing sorry. In terms of gaming performance probably similar, but for CPU heavy loads the Ryzen will destory.

Eluktronics MAX-15 and MAX-17 have now been brought in by Aftershock as the Vapor 15 and Vapor 17 Pro respectively, but here's the catch: ONLY the SINGAPORE Head Branch offers them for sale at the moment.

I don't see a vapor 17? The Vapor 15 is the same as the MAG-15, the MAX-15/17 are a different chassis. Aftershock told me they will sell these in the future, I assume they will probably wait for next gen hardware though.

I just got the Mech 17 G1RX 2070(max-p) i7-9750h and I've had it for a couple weeks now. I put a review on it's amazon page and I would say it is one of the best reviewed laptops I've seen! It performs a bit better then this machine and I couldn't imagine having a better laptop. It is bigger than the max 15 & 17 series and I think this may actually help with thermals. Surprisingly though, it is smaller than my 15" ASUS ROG GL502VS even though the Mech is 17". Elektroboost will be automatically applied to the laptop (all i7-9750h) and it comes undervolted from their shop. The turbo mode for fans does increase the clock rate of the GPU/CPU so I'd recommend always playing with it on also. Red Dead Redemption 2 - Ultra ~60fps, adjusted Very High ~90fps BFV - Ultra ~70fps, adjusted Very High ~110fps Modern Warfare (multiplayer) - Ultra ~110fps Assassin's Creed Odyssey - Ultra ~60fps Kingdom Come Deliverance - Ultra/Very High +60fps Rome Total War II - +60fps Thermals (Almost always below 86c) I would choose the Mech line over the MAX because having a thin laptop isn't exactly my cup of tea and I feel like it's thermal limits are a bit higher. The prices are amazing as well! @@sushantpradhan5781 I also have the better thermal paste, however from what I've read the stock paste works very well too. This laptop chassis is specifically designed through input from intel to help with cooling and compared to other reviews I haven't seen any that complained about heat.

Eluktronics MAX-15 vs Metabox Alpha X vs Lenovo Y540, which one would you recommend in terms of price-to-performance ratio, build quality, I/o options and display performance? considering all of them are configured with RTX2060 and 16 gigs of RAM.

MAX-15 can go higher spec and has a nicer metal build over the others, however Y540 might be cheaper once you factor shipping + GST (unless you wait for Aftershock to offer it locally, assuming you're in Australia based on Metabox mention). The Y540 would get a speed boost by disabling optimus, which the others can't do.

I'm just not sure about the build quality and overall performance compared to Y540. How do they hold up regarding single core and multi-core performance? and as far as I understood, Y540 does not have a 120/144 hz display option. Is that right?

Alpha-X performs well, I'd rate the Y540 build quality higher though, more solid less plastic feeling (probably just due to the rubber coating or what ever they use). As for single core/multi core performance probably best to check the Cinebench scores I have in the reviews of each for a rough idea. Y540 is available with 144Hz, but for some reason in Australia they stopped selling that panel option, not sure why, you could probably upgrade it yourself or maybe it's an option from elsewhere.

I don't know what you're asking. I asked them what paste they sent with my unit, that's how I know I have stock paste. If you're asking how I know the other options actually perform better, they're higher quality pastes with higher thermal conductivity ratings so that's expected.

I recently got the maingear vector from microcenter and it seems like the same laptop with a 1660ti how did you undevolt it I was trying to use throttle stop but did not seem to see a difference.

I used Intel xtu, throttlestop would be fine too, but it's already undervolted a bit by default.

It's the exact same GPU, just a 15W power limit difference. The blade has a heavier CPU undervolt, and if I recall the GPU is overclocked too.

Someone knows if the Oculus Rift S is compatible with the latest version of Max-15, which has no mini display ports? Should I use a USB c thunderbolt -> displayport adapter? The Rift S is very finicky with video outputs.

After some investigations I discovered it's compatible as the MAX-15 has the Thunderbolt tied to Nvidia GPU for display output! One adaptor is needed, USB-C via Thunderbolt -> Display Port. I've ordered the EU equivalent of MAX-15, the Vyper III, today. I'll test the Oculus Rift S for sure as soon I'll get the laptop!

I'd say yes just because its 15" and 17" laptops aren't for me. The Blade does do well for Max-Q though due to the high power limit, overclock, and undervolt out of the box, but you can apply those things here too.
