You guys are REALLY good at this! I 💖😍💖😍 your reaction to Part 1 💯 Thank you so much for continuing on the Elvis journey 💗💐 Elvis did buy cars for friends & family, but he also bought them for people who were strangers to him. As you get further on, you'll learn just how legendary Elvis's generosity really was. I only got into Elvis 2 years ago and I had no idea what I was getting myself into. The more I learned about him, the more stories I kept stumbling on about Elvis paying off someone's mortgage or Elvis pulling over and aiding and staying with a guy who was in a motorcycle accident or Elvis inviting students from the Arkansas School For The Deaf into his home (Graceland) after he had learned their bus had shown up to late to see him at the end of a charity show (in Memphis). There's just WAY too many stories about Elvis and his generousity. Thank you very much once again! Hope you & yours have (or had, if that be the case) a very Happy Thanksgiving! TCB ⚡ & TLC ❤ & peace and blessings to you & yours 💕

I couldn't have put it better myself. There are way too many stories of Elvis' generousity and also a lot that we will never hear of as he did an awful lot of it behind the scenes. He didn't do it for the recognition or to further his career, he purely and simply did it out of the kindness of his heart and the fact that he knew what it was like to have next to nothing and he never forgot where he came from ❤

@@jackielouise3725 Agreed. In a 1961 Press Conference (at the Claridge Hotel in Memphis), Elvis named Alex Fisher as his accountant. That same accountant told a story hat he and another accountant asked Elvis why he didn't take advantage of the tax loopholes available to him because of all the money he donated to charities and Elvis said something to the effect of, "Because then it wouldn't come from the heart. Besides, God has already blessed me." So I agree. That's just the way Elvis was 💙💖

It's exciting to watch you two learn about Elvis as a person. It's people like you that will keep his legacy alive. He was truly one of a kind. When he had his first #1 record "Heartbreak Hotel", while in Houston, Texas, he decided to treat himself to a new car. When he had chosen a Cadillac El Dorado, he asked a salesman about it. The salesman quickly dismissed him as a time waster and walked away. When Elvis saw a black fellow washing cars at the back of the lot, he asked him to go inside with him where he demanded to see the manager. Elvis told the manager he wanted to buy the Cadillac he had chosen and that he wanted the commission to be given to the car washer because he had treated him like a gentleman. That was the type of guy Elvis was.

I grew up in Memphis when Elvis was still alive and there were stories in the paper a couple of times a month - so frequently that it wasn't even front page news - about somebody that Elvis bought a car for. The one that struck me as a kid was about a time when Elvis was buying cars in the middle of the night and he there was an older black man standing outside the dealership watching Elvis shop. The rest of the crowd that always appeared hadn't shown up yet. Elvis pointed to the guy and said, "He gets one, too." As a kid in Memphis in the 1970s, Elvis was like a superhero to us. When he died it was like finding out Superman was dead. The whole city mourned for a long time.

You kids are cool reacters, I enjoyed this segment. There were so many facets to his life. He was going to check out his stint in Vegas and he got limo company in Memphis to drive him to catch a plane for vegas. As the limo driver was entering the airport Elvis asked do you work for this company or are you the owner of this limo, the guy said I just work for the company. Elvis said I am return tomorrow and I want you to pick me up around this time tomorrow. The next day the limo was waiting to pick up Elvis and Elvis says to him "Now you own this limo, it's yours. Thanks for reacting, also interesting check out "Elvis and the NFL". Be Blessed

Another thing I wanted to let you guys know Jerry was Elvis‘s best friend, stuck by him forever. When Lisa Marie passed away, Jerry said he was at the hospital when Lisa Marie was born and he was at the hospital when Lisa Marie died and he still has a house. Elvis bought him. He spoke those words at Lisa Marie’s funeral.❤

They left some great stories out of this documentary - One time early in his career, before he was super well- known, Elvis walked into a car dealership wearing casual, everyday working class clothes. The car salesman thought he was just some punk off the streets and didn't take Elvis serious when he asked about buying one of the cars. They told Elvis to get lost. Understandably insulted & mad, Elvis marched straight to the back of building, found the old guy in back doing the minimum wage job of cleaning the cars before they were sold....basically the detail guy. Elvis told him, "Come with me". Elvis walked back to the car dealer and told him, - "I'm going to buy that car. I'm puying for it in cash. And you're going to give the commission you make from my buying this car to this guy here" - (pointing to their minimum wage car detail employee). The car dealer was staring with his mouth hanging open, realizing he just f'd up. Taking care of 2 things at one time, Elvis taught the car dealer a lesson about judging people on how they look when they show up to buy a car, and he also made them give away their commission to their underpaid minimum-wage employee. The cab driver that was witness to that story said the car detail guy was in total shock. Other story I love, later in life he's a living legend in one of his Cadillacs driving down the road when he and everyone in the car drove up on an older black couple that had a broken down truck they couldn't get started on side of road. Elvis pulled up talked with them, they lived right down the road so they kept trying to get truck started just so could get truck home and off the road. Finally when truck wouldn't start Elvis decided he would push their truck .... USING HIS EXPENSIVE CADI . Elvis cousin Billy Smith was there and said they just plowed Elvis car into back of that truck pushing it down the road for the couple. Elvis didn't give a damn about banging up his front end of car. Didn't give it a second thought. Finally after a while though they realized it would take too long to push their truck with his car, so he told the couple jump in his car and he drove them into town and to a local truck dealer and had them pick out a brand new truck for themselves. That's not all .. Elvis followed them back in their new truck to where their old one was broke down on side of the road. It was still full of wood logs they were hauling. Elvis had his guys get out and help unload all the wood logs out of the old truck & load it all into the new one for the older couple. After Elvis made sure they were reloaded in their new truck and happy, he and his gang drove off. The old couple was smiling and waving at Elvis as Elvis was smiling & waving, driving off. Man, Elvis was a beautiful Cat.

Elvis mindset was, that fame and money are fleeting things, but friends and family are sacred lifetime important things. He knew he could make some more money on the next tour and album, money to him was just a means to help family, friends, and people he didn't even know.

You guys are right and Elvis did often feel alone as he had always wondered if people loved him for the fame &material things he provided him or just him ; and he did struggle with that. Elvis was rather astute, however, and much more intelligent than given credit for. While he was also a good judge of character and though there were some conflicts and/or differences between the guys that surrounded him, at times, they all very much loved him and would have taken a bullet for him to a man. While I thought I'd give a shout out to the Memphis Mafia, here, as too often they are criticized as just being hangers on or gophers, but aside from being Elvis's counsel, they also served important roles with respect to the show and security, etc., which was top notch and patterned after the Secret Service. Also, several of them in their own right, were quite talented. As Red West became a great character actor and wrote many songs for Elvis and others. Charlie Hodge, who lived at Graceland, along with Elvis, helped arrange the stage show. George Klein was an award-winning DJ and Jerry Schilling, who is sitting in the Beverly Hill's house Elvis bought him, in front of the colorful picture in the video, became the longest touring Road Manager for the Beach Boys. Marter Lacker also managed Rita Coolidge and Lamar Fike was a well-regarded record executive in Nashville. While 'Dimaond Joe' Esposito always had a quick head for numbers and was also a great calming influence on Elvis. I could talk of others, too, but the great part is that Elvis often let the guys go and work some of the aforementioned jobs when he was off and relaxing, but always made sure to send them their regular paycheck in addition to the random cars and jewelry handed out, while he also always handed out solid cash bonuses after every tour and on Christmas. While in 1971, he actually gave the guy's McDonald gift certificates in their typically filled cash envelope, and was able to hold off from cracking up, until everyone really thought he was for real. lol

Elvis couldn't just go out in public without getting mobbed. And it happened so quickly, almost overnight when he was 19. If he wanted to go to the movies, he had to rent the whole theater at night, etc. I don't think he knew what his life was going to become, which all was not good. He never forgot what he came from and wanted to help other poor people.

So you know, I'm a journalist and have covered Elvis' life for quite a while and interviewed almost everyone who was ever close to him. While I have some insight as to the prices of the cars, too, as they have done a great job of keeping all the canceled checks, etc., on file, at Graceland. With the base price for a Cadillac in the mid 70s being about $8,800, but by the time Elvis had all of the cars done up to his specifications, whether for himself or someone else, they ran about $11K - 12K, and few thousand more for his as he always had his decked out with everything you could imagine. There's a plaque at Graceland, too, that playfully lists him as the World's Greatest Car Buyer, and I believe it must be from the dealership from the man in the video, as it listed the names of all 32 people Elvis bought cars for at once that night. It's at this one particular dealership in Memphis - too - where Elvis had two primary Cadillac dealers - that he bought between 150 - 200 cars just there, over the course of his life.

The $6,100 car wasn't a Cadillac but was a Ford Thunderbird bought in 1962. And, the picture you see of Elvis sitting in the T-Bird ran in the old Memphis Press-Scimitar newspaper and Barrasso got a copy and had it blown up like a poster. (He's the guy in the video talking of the car costing $6,100. While today, it hangs on the wall of his office in his bachelor's home in East Memphis. Next to it is a copy of the bill of sale, also enlarged, showing that Elvis paid $6,284 after tags were entered in.

NO, what they said was that Elvis came with his entourage and was only in the car lot for 15 minutes, but by the time he left, about 100 people had gathered to gawk at him. The man said that he understood why Elvis was a night owl: because he could only go out at night without people following him around.

Also, I gave the base price of about 9K as a base price on Cadillacs in the 70s, which usually cost Elvis around 12K each by the time extras were included for everyone and closer to 15K near the end of his life. But on June 5, 1956, Elvis flew to Houston to pick up a new 1956 Cadillac Eldorado for 10 grand. As frankly, he never cared if a car cost $5,000 or $50,000 (like some of the later Rolls Royces and stretch Mercedes Limos), as if he liked it, he bought it.

😱😱😱 Engine power in the Series 75 was a 331-cid V-8 that delivered 230 horsepower. With a curb weight of 5,031 pounds and a wheelbase of 149.1 inches, the Fleetwood was far from a performance model. The commercial chassis featured an impressive 158-inch wheelbase. The standard transmission was a three-speed manual, but few of these were ever made. The optional four-speed Hydramatic automatic transmission was generally preferred.

Very early, Elvis was forced into a backwards life. He couldn’t go outside and meet people. He couldn’t go grocery shopping or to a movie. He couldn’t Christmas shop. He had to request or pay money for stores and theaters to open up for him and his friends only. One of the reasons Graceland had its own theater. Everyone has seen all the TVs I suppose. Elvis had to squeeze entertainment tv, News, sports etc into the few hours his slave driver allowed. I will not see this new film. It glorifies Porker too much. I’ll stick with the best. An oldie but a goodie. “This is Elvis”. Look for it! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️

I'm sorry guys Elvis was extremely generous to people but his personal life was a mess with his terrible drug addiction. No one in his entourage could stop him or even say no to him without losing their job. Unfortunately the last years of his life were spent upstairs In his blacked outbedroom sometimes for days or weeks. The amount and types of pills caused his bowel to be impacted and he died In the morning on his toilet they say a heart attack bit it was years of heavy drug use.

Make no mistake though…Elvis died a lonely man. And alone. Very very sad to think of what his last thoughts were. Was he scared? I somehow think he was glad. Glad to leave this judgmental and sometimes horrible world behind. But most of all I think he was happy to again be with the only one that truly loved him. Jesus. And of course, his Mama.
