Firstly my respect to any black belt who sees this. Secondly I understand that the internet is a public setting and everyone has the right to hold and express their opinions, while this makes disagreements inevitable there are five concepts that should guide our words. Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control, and Indomitable Spirit. As students, Instructors, or, Masters of Taekwon-do we have a responsibility to respect each other, regardless of Federation, Nationality, or Language. No matter the dispute, we owe eachother respect, in all things.

Thank you for posting this. I was recently promoted to 4th degree here in Sonoma Ca. but because of the pandemic my Senior Instructor had to close his doors so i and the other black belts have been “orphaned”. We had just learned the WTF forms but originally started with the ITF forms. I haven’t done Choong Moo in many years.

Learn from your instructor! Video's that don't match what you are being taught just ignore and move on to the ones the match your teaching. It is KZbin after all. I find no fault in this video for what little I know about this pattern.

id say learn from your instructor obviously but i actually find videos helpful to iron out faults and things you have forgotten. just as a check before grading.

@@tomyale1119 True: I find ever instructor has their own twist on the same patterns. This was a post from 3 years ago. With Covid these videos and others like them will keep you learning. I always learn it the way my instructor teaches, because bottom line he/she is the one that you will test in front of, and others. I have been one of the judges for patterns and many times the other school judges might ask the students teacher if that is how they taught them. If so they will not count off and shouldn't if the student did it the way it was taught to them. That 360 degree jump turn was always hard for me, I did it and can, at 70, still do it, but still hard. Bones don't move like they use to. Big Smile!

What's with all the negative comments? This is exactly how they teach the form at my school in Ohio. He does a good job walking through each motion.
@irmasil37 жыл бұрын
If you are taught to perform like that then you are taught wrongly. The bottom line is that you can have small variations when performing Tul (even from Federation to Federation the changes are minimal-except Traditional ITF were the tut are performed as they were performed back in 1970). So, you can accept variation, but this guty really doesn't know what he is doing. The movements are all wrong, the stances are out of balance, the kicks are self harmful and the tools used to create force, accuracy and power are all wrong. Basically, he IS a FREUD.
@irmasil37 жыл бұрын
Whereas philosophically and scientifically differentiation is always an acceptable (and welcome) challenge, you wouldn't beg to differ by jumping off a plane WITHOUT a parachute or IGNORE grammar in your native language, right? Technique and performance in ITF have to do with safety first. Correct execution of techniques has to do first with the practitioners safety and then with adequate performance. In this video, there are >100 false techniques which make the movement insufficient and/or hazardous for the practitioner (instead of the opponent...).

Ignoring the fact different schools teach the pattern differently to how it supposed to be (bad enough)... This chap doesn't look where he is kicking.... I don't care what your style is - if you are not looking at he target you are attacking (except for some rare occasions such as Po-Eun Tul) you are teaching martial arts wrong and giving people false confidence and putting them in danger. That's why this guy is getting heat.

Hoyng is the old name for Tul. Its the patterns that first introduced in Taekwondo, coming mainly from Karate, back in the 60s. Its the patterns that are still performed in ITF (although 2 changed around the 70s). Pumse have been invented far later when the separation happened and WTF was created. Initially only 10, and then the practitioners were forced to learn ITF patterns. Pumse have a complete different mentality in their moves, performance and power delivery. They make look alike to the untrained eye but they are far from the same comparing to Tul. I have practised both WTF and ITF for many years. Being a 5th degree ITF at the moment and reaching up to 1st degree in WTF, I can honestly say Pumse suck.
@hegeengel61397 жыл бұрын
Hi. I hear you. Respect. We are som WTF clubs in Norway who still go hoyng, old style, We go the patterns low and without the breathing sounds They do at ITF. We Are proud off keeping old tradisions alive. Taekwondo alliance norway (on facebook) We are in alliance with ITF in Scottland. And Even some in our club do poomsea. I think its wonderful having alliance with clubs with old and "new" patterns. But ill always have my heart in hoyng 😀 (Im a Black belt 1 Dan. Hoping to get my second degree this summer)

Not bad. But work on extending your kicks. Btw, side kick or side piercing, neither should strike w the blade. The heel.
@jackiesluman5 жыл бұрын
George Kondylis Corrent me if I'm wrong but I think you're saying you should strike with the heel, which is definitely not the case in taekwondo, it is done with the foot sword
@georgekondylis67235 жыл бұрын
Hey Jack, Not the blade of the foot. Just the heel. In fact, all of the old school Tae Kwon Do strikes are narrowed to a one square inch of surface. Front two knuckles, the shuto would be the inch just before the wrist, roundkick the ball of the foot , etc. The idea is to bring that one square inch of bone into a specific target of one inch. Ie, eye socket, solar plexus, etc. Like striking with a ball peen hammer.

@@georgekondylis6723 I can definitely see where you're coming from, maybe they teach it differently in different countries/clubs. Do you do WTF?

Joseph Sluman Honestly, I’ve belonged to both ITF and WTF when my instructor Suk Chong Chung had his school in Cambridge , MA. A good kick is a good kick, ITF, WTF, whatever. After 40 years of teaching Tae Kwon Do, I don’t belong to any organization. Not needed for me or my students. The last organization I paid dues to was the AAU, and that was only so we could enter their tournaments. Anyway, semantics are somewhat important. When I hear “footsword” I envision the striking area being not the strong, concentrated force of the heel, but the side of the foot, heel included. It is weak.
@GWhitetkd7 ай бұрын
The attacking tool for side kick is the foot sword not the heel. Please don't disseminate incorrect information

There are only 3 federations in ITF Tae Kwon Do. All of them 90% same technique when making tuls (tyls), with 10% differences in details. I know all the differences because when you take part in different competitions covered by those federations, you need to consider it. AND I CAN TELL YOU ALL THAT this video (the style shown here) has nothing to do with real technique of ITF TaeKwon Do. This is fake! Also, if somebody wants to tell me, that "may be this guy is from another federation which have their own style bla bla bla" - I can reply on that: there is 9 tom encyclopedia of ITF TaeKwon Do, created by its founder (founder of ITF Tae Kwon Do), grand master general Choi Hong Hi, This encyclopedia can show you all way technique and prove my words. And This video tutorial is 100% incorrect - never use it!
@Cailean_MacCoinnich5 жыл бұрын
Man, or should I say BOY! You have a serious attitude problem. There is NOTHING wrong with this video. The fact that it is different to what you have been taught does NOT mean it is wrong. I don't have a TKD background (fortunately i study real martial arts) but nevertheless, this video is clear and detailed. The TKD forms are so ridiculously simple anyway, that I can't see why you even bother with most of them.
@LukeYoYoRoberts2 жыл бұрын
As per the comment below. This is a perfect demonstration of the non-sine wave form of the pattern.
