Emax Baby Hawk R, Review with flight. $140 well spent!

Today I took a look at the new Emax baby hawk R. Its pretty cool, this little guy is available on our website for a limited PNP pre order, and after Christmas the full production run will be open for sale on www.team-legit.com.

If you want something with the same price, but greater performance get the hglrc 145. Sells for $149 at banggood. 3 inch props, top notch electronics and motors. Can reach I think 90mph, flies just as good as 5 inch quads, but the size gives you a rush. Stu from uavfutures did a video review including top speed test. I like the baby hawk r, but it’s heavy. Other than that it’s still good.

Silly question, but is there any reason 1) you don't re-wire the XT30 to an XT60 instead of dealing with an XT30? 2) Any reason why you can't add leads and extend the capacitor under canopy? It seems like it could be squeezed in there (eg, behind the camera)

Hey great review and thank you for being honest about battery life. In regards to that you stated about 2min flight time on 3S, was anything left in the pack or was it essentially 0 when you landed? Thanks!

Dennis Forbes the pack was as low as you can comfortably fly it. There was no damage to the pack but I also realized that the 80c high discharge batteries gave 1:40 of very fast flight and more reasonable 45c packs got 2:20 of flight. It's not too bad but just know that it's far from good. Also an important note is that this is to be expected with a quad at this performance level. If you try to fly this in a large area it's not going to be fun. Keep it in a small space to comfortably get 2:20 of flight. It's not going to preform well in the same space that you would say fly a 5"

I brought a Turnigy FS-A8s receiver I haven’t Connected it to my new babyhawk r yet. Should there be any issues with this set up ? Also do you have any idea on the vtx set up to raise it to 200mw ?

Two minute flight times? Unacceptable. And I thought three and a half minutes in my EDFs was bad. Thank you for pointing that out

Hahaha! I'm looking at a scratch on one of my monitors from NOT removing props before setting up in BF! Nice to know I'm not the only one who hasn't learned! Any problems with the FrSky receiver, range limitation, brownouts? Other than the frame, that's about the only unknown on this quad.

geeznogoodname ya I forgot to mention the receiver performance in the video, it's amazing! There is full rssi at the top right of the osd just out of frame. It performs as well as an xm+ maybe a little less range but nothing to worry about when you have rssi!

fritz The BNF comes with an FRSKY Rx so you will need a separate RX

I'm using the EU version of the taranis.so if I buy this as a bind and fly,do I need to resolder the wires,flash different software and then solder it back up again?otherwise i'd be better off buying the other version

Does the quad come with a bad tune? Lots of wobble when orbiting the tree etc.

That's all me, I fly kinda weird and have been for a while. I make tons and tons of movements and corrections when flying and for the most part it has helped me out to fly faster. The quad was tuned reasonably well out of the box but it could use a little tuning on the top end of the throttle. Other than that it was rock solid.

Joe Xavier well emax sent me the bind n fly which comes with a fr sky rx but you can always buy the pnp where no receiver is included and solder on your own spektrum. A de cased racing rx should work inside of it space wise.

PAULIE FPV Haha ya I'm being bad example. I usually only take off the props when it's 3" or bigger but there are so many screws on 2" quads that I thought I could be lazy about it. I paid the price lol.

Is a room Under The Canopy to move the capacitor?

randall reis fpv nope it's pretty snug up in there. I guess with some long leads you can move it but then you run the risk of it shorting in a crash.

I relocated mine to behind the camera with some 18 ga wires. Keep it short as possible and shrink wrap both ends, plenty of solder but make sure it’s a single well fluxed bead

Thanks dude, maybe you can help me. They said they ran out of quads with the receivers built in so they sent me one that didn't have it, can you tell me. Will any cm FRY sky fit ???.. you said they had a special receiver where do you suggest I get one ? and where do I hook it up to .. can you help me please

They leave the 3 wires inside all hooked up - red black & yellow. XM, XM+ , R XSR will fit 👌

Cam seems a little slow to transition between dark/light.

ipsofatso ya it was struggling out there, the swift micro did a better job. Important to note is that this was flown at a very low light condition, I forgot to mention that. It's sunset at this time and the camera was trying to find every bit of light it can.
