I love the creativity in English/Scottish chants. And probably others but I'm too ignorant to learn Spanish or Italian. Andy Goram, was he Rangers and Scotland keeper? I see why he was an international now. Maybe both his personalities had hands? (i have bipolar, i do sympathise with mental health issues before some tool goes at me).

Jimmy Saville was a famous TV personality who did the equivalent of "Make A Wish". He was from Leeds (although people forget he was a Liverpool fan), and ever since he was outed as the monster he was, Leeds United fans have been the subject of being mocked over it. We generally receive "Jimmy Saville - he's one of your own", and we reply with something associated with the team singing it. So, for Swansea (a Welsh team) it's "he shagged all your sheep", Huddersfield (nicknamed the Terriers) it's "... all your dogs" and so on. By the way, almost half of these clips are Leeds fans. One of if not the most hated club in the country thanks to the 1970s. There's just too much context to give, sorry! 😅

The two finger salute comes from when a major section of the army was the longbow men. Those two fingers were essential and they were waved at the enemy. If caught those two fingers would be chopped off! The fingers must face outwards. It goes back a loooong way to the 1300s!

In England the football teams play in leagues.. if you are towards the bottom of the league you play in you get relegated to the league below at the end of the season.. The teams who finish at the top of the lower leagues then get promoted (And replace the relegated teams). No Dick joke here :)

'you sit down away' - travelling fans (or away fans) are typically outnumbered and grouped in one corner of the stadium. it is widely expected for them to make a lot of noise and support to counter-act the dominant number of home fans. sitting down away is the sign of a miserable bunch of fans and things not going well on the pitch.

I went to a baseball match in New York when I was over there a few years ago. We took the subway to get to the stadium, and there was a mix of fans in the carriages. The thing to remember about the first chant (adam Johnson) it's the Newcastle (my home city) Sunderland game and there is a lot of "history" behind that rivalry. I still think the Police have a policy of no leave any time those game get played. Luckily enough they've been in different leagues for the last few years. No sane person would be in town when those games were played in either Newcastle or Sunderland. Not sure if anyone else has pointed this out but Sky TV in the UK and Fox in the USA are owned by Rupert Murdoch so yes they can be :-)

Very late to the punch here, but the earliest record of that "explanation" dates to the 1970s, and people have been doing the two-finger salute much longer than that. In other words: it's an urban legend.

22:12 "Going down but straight back up" means that your team got relegated but will be just promoted the next season. The European football league system has tiers. In that chant's context, the lads chanting must be from a Championship team (the second tier of English football). The said team goes down a tier, to League One, which is the third tier of English football.
