I went through a messy divorce earlier this year. It was bad emotionally especially during the lockdowns. I was working with a psychoanalyst at the time. I felt I wasnlt getting better, so I self-administered some validated PTSD screening tests. These came up high. While I never had a formal disgnosis of PTSD/chronic trauma, I took some advice from psychoanalyst, read Shapiro's book, and came up with an approach similar to walking EMDR in the local forest. Amazing. I calmed me down and gave me insights that no amount of breathing or mindfulness or even running was able to. I'm still doing in about once per week. You can easily do it youself if you're comfortable reading medical/scientific research. In my experience having a therapist that you can check in with occasionally seemed worthwhile to me - to talk through the insights and discuss the individualised approach I'd come up with .

I'm just starting to actively get at the root of my issues from childhood and hadn't heard of EMDR but what a useful tool! I've had to address a number of issues since my estranged biological father passed 6 years ago and this will be so helpful! Thanks for all you do!

with inflation and being on disability and husband retired, it''s a matter of money. How can we pay for dental work, eyeglasses, medicare B, the large 1750 deductible for this so called free health care with we can't afford? Then pay for this therapy which Medicare doesn't cover anyway? We would lose our home, now that would be the biggest stressor we could face. So encouraging people to get into financial trouble by trying to pay a professional when most can't is not ethical. We have no choice but to do this at home on our own. We greatly appreciate the help and guidance you are sharing. Thanks.

Hello from Japan! I cannot thank you enough for sharing such valuable and comprehensive information on EDMR. It is the first time that anyone has explained EMDR to me in such an easy to understand manner. I especially liked your comment on not to go to the other opposite extreme about one's core beliefs but to add the adverb "enough" to the other concept, for example I am good "enough", or maybe you can say" I am not that defective a person as I think I am," and "I am fairly alright, after all." This way, my mind will not try to argue with me, as you said. This idea has been an eye-opener for me and I think it is extremely practical. I certainly would like to receive EMDR either self-administered or from a EDMR therapist or by the in-between EDMR program you mentioned. I have only begun watching your videos only several days ago and I am hooked. But I will remind myself not to rush and do things one day at a time. I joined the RoadMap to Joy and Authentic Confidence Course 2 days ago.

Welcome to the course! We will work on rewiring these core beliefs quite a bit in the program also! And I love that you mention the "enough" concept - so important!

Virtual EMDR might be useful to me. I went to therapy in 2020 through early 2021. I resolved a core issue, thankfully, only to have another issue I created pop up and then my therapist stopped taking insurance and I changed careers thanks to his help, actually, but now I want to speak with someone again but I have bad Obamacare insurance. I think I’ll reach out to them to see if therapy is covered and how much. I never had to pay any copay to speak with my therapist. Which was nice! I think it was because I was diagnosed with clinical anxiety and it’s covered differently? Anyway, I’m glad I found your channel. 😊
@daeclipse03 Жыл бұрын
Co-pays wouldn't changed based on your diagnosis. That was just how whatever insurance you had handled cost sharing with mental health benefits on your plan. Obama care unfortunately has really high deductibles on most plans so your going to have to pay most of your treatment out of pocket to meet the deductible. Hope your doing better.

Is this safe to do alone? I do eft but have agoraphobia and cPTSD my anxiety can get out of control sometimes when I hit a major core issue.
@BarbaraHeffernan3 жыл бұрын
I definitely think it is always worth trusting your instinct - if you feel you need to work with someone to go through this, then I would encourage that. In general, for people interested in doing self-help work, I don't believe this video is problematic. For actually doing EMDR, for someone with complex PTSD, I'd recommend working with a qualified therapist, and not trying EMDR on your own. Hope that is helpful. @BarbaraHeffernan2 жыл бұрын
For some people, yes... (and that might be a signal of your NCB!). But not everyone - sometimes people's core is "I'm in danger", or "I'm unlovable"... It is interesting how this can vary!

Don't believe this EMDR non-sense. She's not approaching the issue starting with the very basics. One's boundaries in how they are formed early in childhood with our caregivers, is the first thing which needs to be addressed. This EMDR is a bunch of whoey. Don't believe it for a moment. It's all BS.

It's transforming and I'm someone who trusts no one. I have cptsd brought up in a dangerous environment and thought it's others that are to blame. Now I'm my own enemy and with a therapist doing emdr plus ifs it's really transforming my perspective but it's slow and a very deep wound. Still working on self compassion good luck with finding something that works for you.i started by reading Pete Walker CPTSD surviving to thriving. There's some helpful tools for my lashing out or panic
