Totally off topic but I love your shirt! My favourite bra uses your wicking fabric, it's so lovely to wear. Saying that my next bra will use satin 😬, it's too pretty not to use!

Please a sew-along-vid about black beauty bra (in view A) and I would like a brazilian, lacy pattern (mid rise with higher leg cut) to buy, more coverage than the thursday thong and not so much as the tuesday shorty. You could about us about your plans or additions concerning fabrics and so on.

I'm a dude just trying to find what type of material is used in certain types of bras I've seen women wear, and it's been frustrating as someone who knows NOTHING about fabrics struggling to find the design and name. 😭 Edit: YES, I found it! Thank YOU! 😊 This was extremely helpful! (I'm a graphic novel artist working on character design)

So good point about looking at what the bra will be used for. I used to work for a lingerie brand and so many people who was getting married wanted a sexy bra for the wedding night but that also was practical under their strapless dress.. I tried to educate them that maybe they need 2 separate sets but it wasn’t always sinking in 😅 I found the Indian brides where more open to this idea and they generally wanted fun colors too to match the wedding saris.

Under the dress and the night-of lingerie are two completely different sets for sure! lol That's really cool about Indian brides- so fun with the bright colours!!

Thank you for your explanation! I have a question, can we get a structured bra but without the wire? I just think bra with wire are uncomfortable.
@xmikywayx
@xmikywayx 4 жыл бұрын
A lot of times people find the underwire uncomfortable when they are wearing the wrong bra size, often too-small cups that are sitting on the breast tissue instead of in the IMF. Could also be a wire shape mismatch. Too big of a band means the wires are wider than you may need as well. I would encourage you to check out the beginner's guide at /r/abrathatfits: www.reddit.com/r/ABraThatFits/wiki/beginners_guide

Thanks! This is super informative!Can woven fabrics be used for cups if cut on the bias? Also does bra tulle have to be rigid or can it have a bit of stretch?

Doggy looks so content and sleepy. I am really excited to try making a bra and hopefully making one that really fits well. How do I choose my sizing as far as UK to US sizes? I am a 42B or C in the bra I am wearing now, US size. Thank you so much for this.

hi erin...i think i struggle with this the most...ive been experimenting with woven because i really like a firm cup and being on a budget ive been using scraps to make muslins. i cut everything on bias but im finding the 'flat' spots im getting are the seams and not sure if im not sewing them right or that the bulk is just making them even more rigid. im not sure if im saying it right but does that sound like a familiar issue and would you have any suggestions. thanks
@EmeraldErinSews
@EmeraldErinSews 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for your comment! I can think of two things it could be- it could be that the stitching on your seams is very tight, which is making those seams very rigid- maybe using a longer stitch length would help this. It could also be that your fabric has a very 'stretchy' bias, and your seams follow the grain line, so your cups have a lot of ease in the middle where you have the bias, but are too stiff along the seams. Hope that helps!

Hi Erin on your Etsy website or in your studio I am looking for bra material bra tulle and lining as well as wicking fabric etc. Do you offer classes? My goal is making bras for women who have trouble getting a good fit

Hi Pat, I do offer bra tulle, and sheer cup lining, you can purchase both of them in my Etsy shop, or in my new online shop (shop.emeralderin.com) I don't have my wicking fabric listed by the meter right now, but I can offer it to you in a custom listing. I don't currently offer any classes, but I am considering them in the future :)

@@EmeraldErinSews I was just wondering which of your bra kits would be good to start out with and any pointers about sewing a bra that I should pay attention to. I have been sewing clothes so I just want to branch off some in my sewing. Also I have seen where people say to measure the under bust vs the upper bust plus the full bust measurement and so I was wondering which way you have found to be best. Thank you so much.
@EmeraldErinSews

I have tons of resources on my blog, as well as my other youtube videos :) A good starting point would be my Jordy pattern, since it is a quick and simple make! For measuring, I always recommend going by the instructions in the pattern you are using. Different pattern designers will prefer different methods. I personally prefer the underbust measurement and the UK sizing system, but other designers will be different :)

I saw on KZbin, someone teaching how to make bra with rigid fabric, I assume the measurements should be increase it, or not? I want to learn how to make bra, and panties. Thank you
@EmeraldErinSews
@EmeraldErinSews 5 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the design of the pattern you are working with. I design my patterns for non-stretch cups, so you do not have to increase your normal size. But other designers might use stretch fabrics.

Thank you, what kind of bra model do you recommend for women with bust from 36 and up?, I think those called V, vertical, are not suitable for big bust. Do you have patterns to sell or teaching here to people who wants to learn, this is my case. Have a nice day.

What about spandex(stretch 4 ways)? Is that good for bra making?
@EmeraldErinSews
@EmeraldErinSews 4 жыл бұрын
It all depends on the pattern you are using and the amount of support you would like. Stretch fabrics are great for the back of the bra, but they don't give a lot of support in the cups, particularly for larger cup sizes

Hi Erin. I am new to your site. You refer to the cradle of the bra is that the lower cup? Is your studio in Trenton open to the public or can you just order on Etsy? Thank you
@EmeraldErinSews

Hi Pat, The cradle is actually the frame around the bra cups. My studio is not open to the public, but I do accept pick-ups if you place the order online before, and send me a message that you want to pick it up! Thanks, Erin

Hello Erin, I see a dummy in the background and it looks as if it is made from plaster of paris, did you buy this or did you have it moulded to your body? If so was it expensive to create and where did you buy the plaster of paris. thanks

Hi Mary! She's actually a manufactured one made of foam, and I've just covered the outside with modge-podge and tissue to make it a little prettier (I found her in an attic and she looked a bit rough). So she isn't a mould of my body- but I wish she was!
