It takes a TON of tomatoes to make LOTS of salsa. I can get organic jars of salsa at Aldi for less then $2 and I found corn and green beans for .59 cents a can! Score! Obviously growing is best but my spring/summer garden was a major flop this year here in Texas.

Since coconut oil is probably mostly imported, nutritionally dense and it also has medical properties I would suggest keeping it in you pantry rotation. Whenever I have to decide between two items when the grocery budget is very limited I choice the item with both the most nutritional density and the most medicinal properties.

Save your tin cans when you open them and make candles for emergencies 😉 we buy organic soy wax and wicks on Amazon and make candles in the winter after we've eaten our pineapple cans or tomatopaste ;). We can add essential oils in it too. We given them to neighbors, friends, families, and even keep one in our vehicles.

I’m impressed by your organization. I have a pretty large bedroom for a pantry and I try to be organized but it gets away from me. I have shelves all around the walls and two large tables side by side next to each other in the middle where I lay out just picked produce until I get it canned, dehydrated, or frozen. Under table is empty jars. Full wall closet is paper goods. Batteries, candled, first aid, many non edibles, etc in closet. There is a outside door with big window I keep blacked out. There is a strong window air conditioning unit in window to keep extra cool in summer and in winter I close heat duct and lay a heavy rug over vent so that room stays extra cool and dark

I always get great ideas watching peoples pantry videos. Especially when they are filled with whole food. I have such hopes a and dreams of filling up my food storage with my own home grown produce. But sadly when the garden doesn’t grow like it should I’ll have to purchase from either other growers or the grocery store and try again next year! At least there is still food on shelves right now that we can stock up on. Each month I think of one or two things I can buy extra and a big bulk purchase.

lately i been reading where people ( not everybody ) garden is growing as good. Very sad :( And the seeds didn't workout very good either . I’ve been learning about canning and time and time again I’m being told that you should never stack your jars and you should not leave the rings on them. I guess the reason is because you could have a jar come and sealed and then if the temperature drops enough the jar will actually seal itself back in some cases and you’ll never know that it had come on sealed and you could end up getting botulism. Just wanted to let you know that that was a thing that I had heard in case you wanted to investigate. Thank you so much for sharing your pantry!

I stored canning jars stacked with rings on for about 10 years. I only had a few times jars were bad because of unsealing and resealing. I now store them without rings and I don’t stack just to be safe. However, I also realize sometimes people need to stack because of space. Overall you have a great pantry and I definitely agree store what your family eats 😊

Great looking pantry. I just got into canning about 6 months. I must admit I am still a little nervous about the safety of canning. But I am gradually getting over the fear of canning. I realize if canning is done right it is completely safe. I haven't tried it but I have heard people say they eat popcorn like cold cereal with milk and sugar.

Just make sure that you remove the rings from your jars when you store them and do NOT stack them on top of each other. You want the lid to be able to pop off if there is any toxins inside.

@@krazychickenlady Yes thank you. I have watched dozens of videos on the topic. What is scary about botulism is it has no taste, smell and you might not even see anything. Prep closet looks great. If it was me, I'd have some kind of battery lighting hanging.

I recently bought solar motion lights from Costco & simply routed the solar panel out a window. This way, I always have emergency lights up & ready to go!

I would not stack your home canned items even on cardboard or wood. Use stacking shelves to double stack the jars on your fixed shelving so no weight is resting on the lids.

I put out a garden first time this year . I wonder how much the poor air quality effects your garden. My parents never had this hard of a time growing food.

I've moved several times, different climates, and the first year has either been amazing( beginners luck) or terrible. It gets better every year though. You can learn so much through the yearly failures and successes, just keep planting and trying
