My only thing with doing a K20 conversion is, for the same overall cost would I not be better off buying something like a Porsche Boxster S? I'm not sure how exactly it affects the weight balance of the car, but from scouting forums to looking at websites, the 2zz is about 300 pounds with the transmission, and most K20/24 applications are just over 400; with the 20A, A2, Z3 right around 405. As such, with generally 100 pounds bias towards the rear, I'd imagine you'd want to do corner balancing, which I'm sure people are already doing anyway when upgrading suspension and tires.

I'm in the home stretch of a 2ZZ swap, engine built and ready to go in the car in the next few weeks. Spent a lot of time and money building the engine but if I had the money and the patience....yeah I would've gone K swap all day. I will be turboing the 2ZZ eventually but just from all the research I've done I'd say it'll never have the potential a k-series would without sleeving the block. So consider your goals, if you want say 400+ RELIABLE horsepower you may actually spend less money in the long run with the K20. If you want naturally aspirated HP and have the money, K20 swap. If you want 300-ish reliable horsepower (turbo obviously, no sleeves) then you can probably do it cheaper with the 2ZZ and be perfectly happy with blowing the doors off of any NA K series car out there, but there will be that one guy with the turbo K-swap who will blow your doors off but he'll have a few more grand invested than you and there's always someone faster so enjoy what you set out to build. I'm aiming for that 300-320HP sweet spot, not too crazy but more than I'll ever need so the 2ZZ made sense, and having a Toyota engine (or rather Yamaha engine) does appeal to the purist in me but like I said if I had the funds I would go K-series. Keep up the videos man, this was an honest objective review couldn't have done it better myself. Oh and I have a daily beater Honda Civic with 305K miles on it and it runs like a Swiss watch, Honda makes bulletproof engines period. But the MR-2 is my baby, nothing like it.

@@038john5 well Yamaha made the 2zz and the 1JZ and 2JZ so it's not like companies themselves don't use other parts, lotus with the toyota engine that's actually a Yamaha engine...that's a thinker. But I gotta have that lift and that high revving goodness ;) btw anybody wants to buy a well taken care of 1zz with 100k miles on it I'll (God willing) have one for sale here soon lol

On touge or small track, bigger torque/power is not always the best. With K20A, you have to adjust the gaz pedal. When with a 2ZZ, you can go full throttle due to lack of torque//power. Maybe that's why Asano (TechnoPro Spirit) has tried MWR's 2ZZ 2L stroker engine. Dynoed at 220hp to wheels? So around 240hp on engine, this JDM I-VTEC K20A has tuned ECU. K20A is superior to 2ZZ-GE in all point. Easy power/tune, engine/trans reliability and lot of upgrade parts. For me, an MR-S with stock K20A has equal/superior acceleration than a 2ZZ-GE with PFC tune. Torque is the key.

The k20 swap is an extremely popular swap in the Lotus Elise that that already comes with a 2ZZ, so clearly the K20 is leagues ahead of the 1ZZ.

Just being curious, where do you put the radiator on k swapped sw30?? And if you decide to slap on a turbo or supercharger where do you put the intercooler?

I have been thinking about k swapping my Sw20. I still want to play with the 5sfe fo now. I am just having fun with it.

If it floats your boat then cool. Question is this, is the 2zzfe not the same engine that lotus uses in their cars?
@0opsie5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but it's supercharged in the Lotus cars.

The torque you are feeling is due to the ivtec. Not just the extra 200cc.

Didn't the Techno Pro Spirit guy say that the K20 was a big no no because it's too heavy

Hi me and my friend are carrying out this k20 conversion shortly. In hindsight what would you have done differently or what would have changed if you would start over again?

Gabriel Fisch It's gotta be super quick, 0-60 in under 4.5 and 0-100 in less than 10.

make a drag race video of your 2zz MR_S vs the K20 and i bet there not much difference in the pull from stand still to say 4th gear. also with a programmable ecu you can set when your lift comes in and when it taps out
@asiat305 жыл бұрын
This MR-S K20A swap (dynoed at 220whp) can (to me) do 1/4mile in low 12sec. Mitch Dore and Biatchkillar's MR-S archived 1/4mile in high 12sec with they fully build 2ZZ. 2ZZ swap has none chance against K20A swap. This is just a fact.
@leeroymayn90245 жыл бұрын
@@asiat30 stock k20 does a quarter mile in 13 + seconds not 12 ive seen plenty ep3 type r on a drag strip stock do those times but never a 12
@asiat305 жыл бұрын
This one is JDM DC5 K20A engine (215hp). K20A2 (US/EURO) produce 200hp. I agree, an MR-S with K20A2 stock ECU is in 13sec. But after good ECU tune, it's easily in 12sec.
@andrasjuhasz70115 жыл бұрын
@@leeroymayn9024 Lol, you are talking like the engines do the quarter mile by themselves. There is a car around them usually. A zzw30 is much lighter than an ep3 and also RWD, it's not surprising that it's faster.
@leeroymayn90245 жыл бұрын
@@andrasjuhasz7011 corolla t sport is the same weight as the ep3 type r and the corolla t sport do a better time stock. Remember ep3 type r is only 197 bhp standard not 220 you have to change out parts to make 220 the only k20a that makes 220 out the factory is from the FN2 type r.

Thanks for confirming what I’ve thought about the 2ZZ and K20 options. I was questioning it a lil after the Techno Pro Spirit video. And the sound of the K20 is just way more pleasing too. So when are you gonna swap to a K20 lol
