Michael Maratta right I’m confused by them saying it’s across between revival and kamikaze. It was way better than both. I only didn’t like one song on this album and that’s in too deep. I feel like they need to listen to the album more because when I first heard it I thought it was trash, and feel like that’s because I was listening to the album with only two I’m hours of sleep, and driving while playing the album.
@Shaolinmike19945 жыл бұрын
stevieb274 I think that’s the thing with Eminem’s work these days, i think it takes a few listens because I truly believe his word play and technical skills as a rapper are so advanced that people don’t really catch his bars right away. Like they said he wasn’t saying anything on Godzilla on the fast part? Was it clever? Not really, but it still made sense. It wasn’t just a mesh of words that rhyme. “100% of you is a fifth of a percent of me...” he was just showcasing his skills. I just think Eminem is bored at this point that he tries to out do himself. It’s so easy to point out the corny bars, because it’s hard to pick apart the lyrics and pull the hard bars out like “I’m not gonna let 'em treat the paper like I'm chopping a letter, Dre'll tell you how I shred So when you refer to the guy next to the Doc, you meant (document) shredder”....maybe newer Eminem just isn’t for them anymore. They didn’t like that Don Toliver hook? That shit was so smooth.
@killablaq5 жыл бұрын
Reason why Em always needs to prove himself, and I think that black people have a problem with a white rapper expressing his personality and we want Me to be black or hood. Wordplay and skill was crazy and I feel like some lines we're meant to be funny but are seen as corny. 4:44 was dope but not the peak it was "black". Our race would rather embrace mumble rap to try and hold on to that black ID

I think what Em really needs to do more than anything is make a project with just one really dope producer that he has chemistry with making all the beats. We’ve seen Royce work with Premo, Joell with Illmind and Apollo Brown, which was some of my favorite projects from them. 4:44 was super dope in part because No ID made every beat. I’m not saying that Em could make a project on that level, but if he locked in with One top producer, I think it would be a great improvement
@thomaswiseau24215 жыл бұрын

You're right man. Spot on. But if he actually locks in with just one producer (preferably Dre or Alchemist) I still feel he's capable of making an album at least at par with 4:44 if not superior. Cuz like Mike said the hooks stood out like a sore fucking thumb on this one. That said, the flows were there the rapping was on point and a major improvement in his bars too from Revival and Kamikaze. So he just needs to ensure his hooks are catchy to his boys in the room and NO ONE ELSE. But apart from that this is definitely the direction that he needs to be taking henceforth.
@edwin999015 жыл бұрын
Dr dres production evolved into a more cinematic sound, if you listened to his compton album.. I think em should make a cinematic concept album, sequenced like an audio film, similar to gkmc, fully produced by dre. This concept could be entirely fictional, or an audio documentary/ book about his life, or a day in the life of young Marshall, again like gkmc. I have many ideas for em that I think would be dope. Em is an incredible artist to waste these unlimited amount of different routes and opportunities for his projects.

For example, rapists are of the "opinion" that they should be allowed to inflict themselves upon women in order to relieve sexual frustration. Which is precisely why rape even happens in the first place. Does that mean we should just sit back and let these motherfuckers do this because its...... "their opinion" ? That's just one simple example. But please understand that not ALL opinions are subjective. Some of it is just plain wrong and unacceptable. Stop the cap 😂😂🙏

I wanted to revisit this review because I've had a few months to sit with this album. The more I listened the more I enjoyed it. I think we all have so many expectations of Em after listening for 20 years that we're not even sure what we want anymore. For instance, if you take away the hook from Stepdad that song was VINTAGE Em!!!! Exaggerated storytelling, funny, riding the beat perfectly - that Alchemist beat was beautiful btw. But yet y'all complained about the song just cuz of the hook. And I literally had to wait 16 minutes into the review to hear you say anything about Em's bars. I don't know why you guys mostly focus on stuff you don't like when it comes to Em. Mike says he likes 95% of the album but 95% of his comments were about what he didn't like. Just something to think about. Hopefully someone reads this so you can keep it in mind when you review an album from Eminem in the future. I don't think this is one of Eminem's best albums but this review was depressing af. Too much focus on what you didn't like, which would be cool if you guys really didn't like the project, but that wasn't the case.

Brooklyn Medina well, sometimes you have to when the rapper is using a lot of word play. There’s a rhyme scheme in “premonition” where there’s an acronym after he says “I was once considered the G O A T” and then he proceeds the rhyme scheme with starting off each bar with each first letter of GOAT. So yea it’s not all about that but eminem is a crafty word smith and you’re not gonna catch all his references the first listen, sometimes the first few listens too.
@Shaolinmike19945 жыл бұрын
Brooklyn Medina ok, I guess there aren’t any black word smiths that appreciate the craft of writing rhymes as a technical style 🤨 please don’t make this a black and white thing or a European and African thing. Eminem also has emotions in his music and is good at conveying a message, e.g the song “Darkness”. You didn’t have to get that deep about this whole race thing and it being a “concern”because I’m into a word smith. Whatever bro. I’m not gonna bother responding back again. I don’t have time for an ignorant topic and about where hip hop derived from and African roots. I know about hip hop. All I stated was I liked what Eminem did with the fast rapping and that it made sense to me. Peace, have a good night.

I 100% agree with Myke that rapping fast isn't inherently impressive. To me, speed rapping is like a van halen style guitar solo. It's only impressive if you know how to use it and how to craft a coherent song around it. It gets boring really fast if it's overused and it does not in any way excuse mediocre or wack writing. And on Godzilla Em's verse was really forgettable.

Right now the way I see it Eminem can’t go back to being that emotional real raw rapper from his earlier albums because he’s already told his life story there’s no more content he can pull from his life to make those kind of albums anymore so he became a very technical rapper. I don’t get why people expect that from him anymore, I think he should just make cool rappy rap albums make more songs with his rap homies he always dope in a feature. Do more songs with new upcomers like Joyner, Young MA, and Juice (R.I.P).

sonnguru I really think this is some of Eminem’s best work as a lyricist. There were so many dope rhyme schemes and word breakdowns. Like when he said “ I'm not gonna let 'em treat the paper like I'm chopping a letter Dre'll tell you how I shred So when you refer to the guy next to the Doc, you meant (document) shredder”.
@Shadowolfy555 жыл бұрын
Em probably doesn’t find it fun to go with simpler punchlines and schemes that sound better like he used to. I believe he probably finds more fun in making really complex punchlines and schemes with multiple meanings. I see it as him challenging himself to get better because at this point he’s done it all critical acclaim, topping the charts, breaking records, creating a huge fan base, inspiring other rappers, etc. Eminem has been in the rap game for over 20 years and he’s still not sick or tired of rapping. Sure his recent albums haven’t been the most sonically amazing but you can’t deny his lyrical ability isn’t sharper than ever. At this point I just want him to keep rapping until he doesn’t want to anymore. His legacy is and always will be cemented in the rap wall of fame.
@Shaolinmike19945 жыл бұрын

To me this album needed an editor. There were enough songs on there to make a great 10-12 track album. To me the production on this album wasn't a problem. Dre had 4 or 5 beats, Royces beats were good stripped back beats. Alchemist, DA. The Lock It Up beat might be the best beat on an Em album in a decade. That song is fire by the way. I mean there are 2 whole songs on here that are double entendres which is crazy. To me this is a better album musically than kamikaze. Also to me the whole Hitchcock theme was unnecessary and didn't really add anything. I feel like some of the corny bars come when he tries to get in his funny bag, cause you don't get those bars when gets in his rap bag like on the intro or the slaughterhouse joint. I refuse to believe that he actually thinks "Like A Liars Pants I'm On Fire" is a bar. Not the same dude who rhymed the entire rap hall of fame on the previous song.

Like Em said in premonition people dont Know what they want from him, these people are complaining AGAIN of the things they complained about in his last album that he has now changed to please them. EMinem didnt produce any beats on this album cos he took y'all advice and got producers to do it, he just added touches to help bring out his rapping , I am glad he did cos his touches suited his rap style. Em should stop trying to pls these critics and do what ever he likes bcos they will continue to complain, truth is all his critics including people on this podcast want him to just stop bcos he is white, their favorite rappers are not even half as good as Em.

I liked where Em was going with step dad but the hook and the delivery didn’t work for me. It just didn’t feel like an inviting beat to get into the story of that makes sense. I think what makes Darkness so good is that the beat doesn’t have much going on and it’s not too high energy Stepdad was like a beat he’s supposed to spaz on and I love alchemist.. it just doesn’t fit the story telling... at least right now it could grow on me

Myke is just straight up gas-lighting with his final remarks. Eminem has shown on plenty of occasions that he's a fan of some pop music. (Ironically, Myke is a fan of some pop music himself.) The fact that he's been collaborating with pop acts for literally a decade now and even put relatively unknown artists like Jessie Reyez on his albums is a pretty telling sign that he actually enjoys making these kinds of songs. Hell, he even proudly proclaimed this on "Rap God" ("It's not hip-hop, it's pop, cause I found a hella way to fuse it"). Just because he isn't doing what YOU want him to do doesn't mean he isn't doing what HE wants to do. Give me a fucking break.
@robertkirby59555 жыл бұрын
My point exactly!
@edwin999015 жыл бұрын
When he said "it's not hip hop its pop" he was saying it satirically, mocking those who say it, to where he responded by saying "I just found a hella way to fuse it." Just like when he said "slim what if you win will it be weird" that's not from his perspective, hes speaking in third person.

No one talked about any of the hardest bars on the (rap) album. Maybe none of them have ever seen Alf (not even a bit 😉). Not one person realized that "Darkness" is entirely a double entendre, every bar on it was a double and not a peep out of anyone on this 'hip-hop' channel. This wasn't an album review, it was a very poorly disguised clout chasing session.

Of course they are, he means it's not a stand out skill anymore because many can do it now. People didn't throw a front kick and get a KO/stoppage in MMA until Anderson Silva, now you see it quite often. Eventually, a raised bar becomes a walkable path.
