That recording of silence bit is real and is also referred to as "room noise" unless your in an anechoic chamber you're just going to get different sounds from different rooms even if theres no "sound" in them. But there is always sound everywhere even if we dont consciously hear it and it becomes super obvious when its suddenly not there.
@spugnoxngubcux9801 Жыл бұрын
If you spent 30 minutes to an hour in a room with absolutely no sound whatsoever, it would mess with your mental health pretty hard.
@BloodThirstyAvengers Жыл бұрын
I thought it was called "room tone" but I guess there's no difference. Truth told, I heard the term first on Simpsons and it gave no explanation (Krusty asked for some room tone after an argument in the Simpsons' house), then heard it later on Family Guy when Trisha tricked Carter into exposing himself. In that instance, he asked what room tone was, prompting them to need it re-recorded.
@tzarg Жыл бұрын
yeah, if you don't have the "room sound" then it will just sound as if they recorded it in a soundproof studio, if you do have it it sounds like they have recorded it in the middle of a room no inbetween

Being inside an anechoic chamber is genuinely super disorienting! The weirdest part, is you can only really hear your voice from inside your own head. Its kinda like talking with your fingers in your ears. If I had to stay in there more than 5 minutes, I'd have to sit down!

I'm a very strong anti bullying advocate and did my psych bsc dissertation on it (I had a good theory but the execution was lacking) because bullying ruined my sister and I's lives. Like I developed mental illness and such but God I've never seen anything like how my sister was bullied (my mental illness is real bad but hers is on another level). They managed to spin lies that spread throughout our entire district in the UK which is wild to me. People generally understand that bullying is bad but they don't really know the extent of how evil it can truly be. 11:12 really freaking got me. Jesus Christ, that is the saddest, most awful thing I've ever heard. My parents were not perfect people by any means and there were some definite issues that a therapist would love to dive into, but one thing I have to hand my mom is that she never, ever, ever denied her love for us. When moments were good, she would say "I like you AND I love you" (she made sure we knew the difference); when we really disappointed her she might say "I love you, but I don't like you very much at this moment". She made sure we knew that her love was unconditional and even her "like" could always be earned back. They idea of a parent telling their child that they don't love them... I can't even begin to imagine. Anyone who withholds love and forgiveness from their children shouldn't be allowed to be parents.

I think part of it is parents don't want to think they were that bad. So even when they do remember shit they did, they downplay it. Sorry if this gets into "didn't ask" territory, but I'm using it as an example. As an adult I'm being treated for 2 auto-immune conditions, and despite me having the worst stomach problems imaginable as a child, my parents told me it was just "bad ibs" and never took me to a doctor to get it checked out. I'm suffering the consequences of it not being treated early. But they have the whole 'we didn't know' in defense, as if that rids the timeline of the neglect I suffered.

Regarding parents not remembering how they traumatize their kids: I still remember one time when I was like 6. I suffered severe constipation at that age, and since my pain tolerance was low back then and I wasn't particularly smart, since it'd hurt to go I'd usually just hold it any time I could and couldn't comprehend that made the issue worse. So one time my family's at this animal museum thing that has a gift shop, and I really wanted a small plushie of a puma. My mom tells me she'll get it for me if I use the public museum restroom... Successfully, yknow, clear out the constipation for the first time in ages I wanted that plushie so damn badly that I managed to do it. I still remember it being severely painful, I remember biting back screams and scratching myself to distract from it. Honestly I don't remember if there was blood but it wouldn't have been surprising in hindsight. But I did what I was told despite it all. We go back to the gift shop and my mom changes her mind. She says the puma was too expensive (we were upper middle class at the time and she saw the price beforehand) and gets me a squirrel instead. She likes squirrels. I don't particularly like squirrels. I cried so hard and my constipation issues even got worse after that for a while because all I remembered was the traumatic pain both physically and the emotions of the betrayal. My mom doesn't remember this and yep accused me of gaslighting when i brought it up, but it's the foundation of my trust issues.

The bullying thing hits me HARD. All my life through third grade to graduation, I was psychologically tormented by almost everyone in my grade, and my only friends were the kids in the special needs classes I had to take because I snapped in fourth grade and started retaliating at my bullies in... Not so healthy ways. I'd scream at people, I'd throw empty Pringle cans, I'd threaten s*****e, I was just... Mentally messed up. It actually slowed down by a lot when I hit highschool, and the only people who bugged me were these weirdos in a grade below me who were actually really nice when they weren't around this specific moron. Thank God my parents and siblings are as understanding as they are or I'd be in a REALLY bad place rn. And thank God there were teachers who actually gave a crap.

Another thing I just wanted to put here: Some time last year I mentioned to my mother that I remembered being bullied in fifth grade. The absolute best part about bulling is that the teachers (99% of the time) can't do anything about it. The bully(s) often don't even do anything wrong enough to raise an eyebrow. They don't do any one single thing to warrant a serious intervention. The absolute worst is when they toy with your feelings towards them by floating the line between a "friend" and a person you loath. You tell them things when they seem genuine that they turn around and use against you when you have a disagreement that drives them away. This not only makes you feel bad for driving a "friend" away but then you feel bad because now they spread a twisted truth based off of their recent findings. It makes it worse once more when you have a limited amount of friends and they act as a gateway to a larger group of people who are seen as "cool" and you want to befriend only for the same thing to happen again with their friends as you become close only to lose them and the cycle continues. The absolute worst part is is that sometimes they don't even know they are dicks. They see you as a weird kid who is impersonable (I'm making it a word) and desperate and they see that spreading these exaggerated truths, cultured from their view of you and the conversation you've made with them, is saving their friends from falling to the same fate that you did of becoming a ostracized outsider. I haven't even gotten to the best part yet. This all leads to you not learning how to socialize with people, especially if it occurs in middle school or thereabouts, leading to the rest of your school life being harder than it needs to be as you go into an increasingly social world with the social skills of a dead mule. Overall, not a fun experience 0/10, would not recommend.

the wood of the bucket isn't what matters - the curse states he cannot be on DRY land. there's another tumblr post somewhere that has a few users debating the circumstances of that scene, and a few important things get noted and theorized. for example, him standing in water reflects how his heart was in the dirt - the dirt isn't exactly "land", so his hear is capable of being there. also, people theorized this wouldn't be enough to let him go anywhere, like sitting in a wheelbarrow full of water to go over the land, that wouldn't work. the strip of sand they parley on is a sandbar, a temporary landmass made up of san deposited in one place by ocean currents. it's not "dry" land, and he's not "on" land, so those parts together create a work round for the curse.

I hate that advice deeply. Always hated it. It's bullshit, it simply doesn't work. Yet it was ALWAYS the go to advice by everyone, even therapists. WTF. No. Only thing which really helps is to scare them off by getting overly aggressive, if you have the muscles (or psychopathic ideas). Sounds bad. And it is. But most bullies only understand direct consequences to their actions, hurting them physically or making their life miserable with something as well. And even if that doesn't help with one, at least it makes you feel way better about it. I still regret not having done more serious harm to some of them, 20 to 30 years later, the rage still lingers unresolved.

The day I turned it in, I got in the car after school and my mom was screaming about how I “shouldn’t have this much freedom” and the fact that I don’t want to be stressed is “not an excuse to be lazy.” She said “I hope that if you get into study hall next year you’re FUCKING BORED.” Stuff like that had happened before, and my little 12 year old mind was…numb. Usually, I’d be silently, or loudly, crying. But this time, I just sat and looked out the car window. I said nothing the whole time. Next day comes along, mom apologized the night before. I’m ignoring her because I’m hurt and don’t want to speak to her. Right before I leave the car to go into school she yells at me for ignoring her. And she wonders why. Ok, I wouldn't exactly say than that segment on bullying hit close to home, it would be more accurate to say that it made a crater in the middle of my living room. It reached 17 years back into my memory, grabbed old semi-forgotten traumas from deep into my soul, and brought them in front of my face so that I had no other option but to acknowledge them. Ouch!

Kinda hot take: Peach isn't actually getting kidnapped anymore. When she's "kidnapped" she's really voluntarily going with Bowser, then Mario "saves" her, then they all chill together, head home; repeat when she's next "kidnapped". Mario gets fame, and he's the Toads' hero Peach gets a break from politics Bowser gets his wife and Junior gets his Mama. Luigi, when he's involved in the rescue, also gets his fame and whatnot. Half the time though he's cleaning his mansion of ghosts again.

I only just realized somewhat recently that as a kid I was in fact being bullied. Hollywood movies overdramatize bullying so much, that I thought it was NORMAL to be shut down, to be talked over when I tried to speak in a group, to be anxious and afraid of partner projects because I thought everyone hated me. Those movies, and the anti-bullying videos shown in school, with kids getting shoved against walls, having things thrown at them, being insulted everyday, were the reason that I didn’t recognize what was happening sooner, the reason I never told anyone about it. They are the reason that I had such severe social anxiety as a kid, and still do (but I at least know how to cope and calm myself now).

10:20 Back in Primary and Middle school I would get bullied almost every day. Some examples of what they did was: - Steal my possessions - Have all the people in my class laugh at me all at once when the teacher wasn't there - Faking being my friend to mess with me - Put my shoes in the toilet - Make gay jokes to insult me (I am Gay/Bi) - Find a KZbin channel I used to post to, and make me regret the content I uploaded, and make me never forget it. - Giving me death threats. There was likely a lot more that I don't remember... It isn't just some messing around as shown in movies, it was psychological torture over 10 years of my life. I now have trust issues.

If it's of any consolation I can guarantee, as fricked up as that is, a) you are not the only person who's been told that, and b) ymmv, but generally every time you do something good or thrive or are happy or successful or are just here on this mortal coil is like a big f. u. to them and if nothing else, that hopefully provides some peace. Family isn't only blood, and no one who is treated that way is obligated to consider the person saying that to be family (you may decide to at some point, but that is wholly your choice to do so).

9:15 I've never had this put into plain words before, it feels like a blow to the chest. Especially the comment about cutting your long hair short and suddenly being seen as disgusting and unworthy of kindness. Kids are cruel, they can read what you're uncomfortable with and use it against you. Even worse, they get smarter every generation, because when bullies grow up, not all of them stop being bullies, and that behavior gets taught to their kids.

7:36 The "calling in gay to work" reminds me of how we finally got rid of the "Wondering womb theory" in America. For any one who doesn't know the Wondering Womb is a concept developed in ancient Roman that was still around and being enshrined in law in the US as late as the 18 hundreds. It states (shortened summery) that a women's womb wonders about the body and can cause injury or death if it is startled. This was used as an excuse to suppress women and keep them from any activities besides cooking and cleaning. The doctors who finally disproved it to the medical community all worked for the insurance companies that covered the railways because women started suing them saying traveling by train had "displaced their womb" and made them ill. Suddenly backing misogynist nonsense was going to cost them a large sum of money and they turned that around really quickly.

I once talked to my mom about being bullied in school and she said that if people did that to me then I must have done something. My mom doesn't remember ever having said that. But I do. It was what made me stop talking to my mom about being bullied and she was shocked to learn later from adult me that I have been bullied all through my school life, so much so that I quit school with a lower degree than I could have gotten only to get out of there. Please be careful about what you say to the children in your life (not only to your own). I've forgotten almost all of what my bullies ever said and did but not what my mom said (and she wasn't trying to be mean - she thought it would be helpful. It was not. People bully others for no reason, especially children, and being made to feel like it's your fault when you already feel inadequate is very hurtful.).
@christopheriman4921 Жыл бұрын
I mean it is technically not wrong but definitely insensitive to say at all, especially since it usually comes down to you doing something that you don't really have much or any control over. I say this because first someone has to notice you and your mannerisms or something about you to bully you about it and so I see bullying as something initiated by someone actively or passively looking for someone else that they can harass and get away with. I don't think this makes the person being bullied responsible though because ideally we wouldn't have the person that looks to harass someone.

The bullying thing is so real. I never got into physical altercations because I'm weak as piss and knew not to start shit, but there was so much quiet harassment. And loud harassment. People found a photo online of me wearing cat ears and started barking and meowing at me constantly, to the point where I still have a negative reaction to crude imitations of household animal noises. Whenever I think of it, I hear it clear as day. And regularly, I had younger students coming into senior-only areas to ask me inane questions to waste my time (at least that harassment was stopped when I started photographing them whenever they did it and sending the videos to the office staff lmao). I had kids throw things at me from the balcony (where they weren't meant to be). Once, I had a girl start mockingly mimicking every little action I did from halfway across the library and laughing with her friends about it, then she blew up at me when I shot her a disapproving glance and started verbally abusing me to the point I had an actual full-on mental breakdown. Kids are horrifying.

Davy Jones explicitly can't touch land. However, he can stand on solid things, like ships. And he can touch water. If someone took wood from a ship, made a bucket, and put sea water in it, it doesn't technically violate any of the conditions: he's not on land, he's on a very small ship, on land. Huge difference. Also, he would not have needed to jump from bucket to bucket. In Dead Man's Chest, he literally teleports from the Dutchman to the ship Jack and Co. were on. So the trail of buckets on the shore is actually kinda redundant. You only need one.
