8:46 I think you missed the reference. There was a game show called "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" during which the contestants were asked multiple choice questions until they got one wrong. They had a few different "lifelines" that they could use to help when they were stuck, one of which was "phone a friend." One guy made it to the last question and used his "phone a friend" to call his dad. Instead of reading the question and asking for help he said "hey dad, I don't really need your help, I just called to say I'm going to win the million dollars" and then gave the correct answer.

4:23 As someone with minor knowledge of Japanese, 'desu' is to say that something is whatever you described. In Japanese, verbs come at the end of the sentence, so it would be something like [John] [fast] [is] (not including the various modifiers the language uses). While 'desu ka' would be more accurate due to 'innit' being phrased as a question, the two are used in almost the exact same way

2:24 let me tell you a little secret… lightly toast 2 slices of bead, put as many sausages as you can easily fit on one of the slices, then add ketchup or whatever sauce you usually have with sausages, nothing is also fine, then put the other slice of toast on top, and you now have a delicacy called “sausages on toast” you don’t need to toast the bread if you don’t want to, it’s just to make the bread slightly crunchy and more stable so it’s easier to eat and it can’t fall apart I always make extra sausages whenever I make them so I can have sausages on toast with the leftovers. It’s surprisingly filling despite being so small, really tasty, and you can have as many as you want since they’re easy to make - bread (toasted if you want), sausage, preferred condiment/s, other bread. Best way to eat sausages imo

Kindergarten through 8th grade, students were supposed to get 30 to 45 minutes of time to read a book of their choice. Usually, this is also when we had snack. Students were encouraged to also try out different genres of literature and collect at least 5 through the year. We also had D.E.A.W time wherein students had 30 minutes to work on their writing. That was a bit more structured; depending on your age and the time of the year, you might be working on a "How To" book, a narrative, an argumentative essay, a fairy tale, historical fiction, etc.

4:31 “Desu” です is a common Japanese word that’s more often than not used as either the end of the sentence, or as a form of existence. “Zach-san wa kawaii desu” would just mean “Zach is cute”. It’s a sort of way of saying “is”, but not entirely. It’s kinda complicated, but know that it often goes onto the end of a sentence, right before a period. Which, in this case, they’re saying that a Japanese person using Desu is the same as a British person using “Innit” at the end of a sentence.

4:33 So です/desu is just a declarative. Like, take 寿司は美味しいです。(Sushi wa oishii desu) in which は(wa) marks the subject as 寿司(sushi) and です confirms the statement. Since "innit" is a contraction of "is it not" I feel it would be more similar to じゃないか?, which is a casual negative interrogative.
