We can speculate that the show would be basically Bojack horseman but take out the depression, get thicker ladies and replace the depression emotional manipulation and how Hollywood is a fucked up place. I mean the whole episode to sum it up is "Hollywood wants to do a ritual, Horse wants to better himself, people around him don't want him to do it, smallest piece of emotional manipulation from either his past or something, he does said thing." A episodic thing which honestly could be fine. Plus from the 2000s no shit it would have stereotypical depictions you shouldn't give a shit. Hell with the pilot ending on a Diddy party kind of made it to be "Hey actors and people in Hollywood are degenerates" which was Bojack horseman whole thing.

SUPERFICIALLY there are enough similarities (horse actor in a world of humans and anthropomorphic animals) that there must be some connection between the two shows. It could even be someone that saw this pilot and then forgot about it, thinking they came up with the horse actor idea. They obviously did something different with the idea, but if it's just a coincidence, it's a really strange one. The agent guy looks like he's meant to be a racial stereotype, but I'm not sure which race is supposed to be offended. Or maybe it's just Klasky-Csupo's grotesque art style and he's not actually meant to be a racial caricature at all. 🤷‍♂

Well, I mean it *was* on Spike TV. If you remember Spike was targeted at people you wouldn't call 'sophisticated'. The same kind of people that would call you a sexual epithet for using the word 'sophisticated' and then bro-fist each other. So since this was the demographic this meant that you really weren't trying to spend money on things like writing or animation. You'd want to go for something that would get 'blammed' (IYKYK) if it was posted on Newgrounds back in the day. In other words they were tossing down slop and yelling *SOOOOEEEEY!* at white guys with Big Johnson T-shirts, shorts and backwards baseball caps. And hoping for a stampede that never came.

8:41 Sheesh, the whole thing with the "son" is another thing to add to the issues with this pilot. The publicist is describing a trans-feminine person while using a masculine word. Honestly not surprised given the rest of the pilot and the time it came out, but it puts even more into perspective the whole scene, as she's begging for money for this person yet misgenders them (which is one of the fundamental things to avoid when trying to support a trans person). Also, if I may give a recommendation when covering this sort of stuff, it would be best to say 'her trans child' to keep the language neutral, 'her trans daugther' to affirm the probable feminine identity, or use quotations around the "son" part to clarify that it's a direct (albeit flawed) quote. Most of trans jokes made by people who arent trans suck so much because people dont have a basic understanding of what it means to be trans. I have noticed that ignorant people tend to think that transmen= "delisional guy that thinks he is a girl haha". Even sometimes you will have the trans character misgendering themselves because even if they are "passing" as a woman, they will have the whole "Oh, im a man actually haha" monologue to make some shitty joke happen. They dont even bother to google what it means to be a trans woman or talk to an actual trans person, they just asume that the same 3 jokes that have been repeated for years are true

You know I had no idea this existed, I always thought Duckman was very similar to Bojack Horseman in terms of its characters but to know the same studio that made that came up with the washed up horse celebrity idea first is mind blowing. I'm not surprised it's bad though, after Duckman Klasky Csupo kept trying to make adult cartoons that just didn't land, they never got as successful as they did with the kids shows. But yeah if you were to combine Duckman with this pilot you'd definitely get Bojack Horseman, just with the trademark Klasky Csupo art style instead.

Klasky Csupo also did Duckman, another mid 90's adult animated cable TV show featuring animal people, it's also a show where an anti-PC character is allowed to rant at length in every episode and it goes horribly right. They nail the tone because Duckman can be pretty pathetic and he's allowed to be wrong, so there's less of that "you should be like this edgy character" these shows sometimes get into. Check out the episode where he's maimed in a theme park accident and has to get an adrenal gland transplant, it's one of my favorites.

They leaned hard on that Klasky Csupo style to sell it. None of the designs are appealing at all nor is there a real punchline or payoff. I can see a lot of kids stumbling onto this show by accident and learning quite the vocabulary. What I'm getting is either Joey himself, his agent, or publicist set up the Award Ceremony. How this would ruin a career for a hasbeen is beyond me. Everyone is clearly trying to guilty trip him, teacher included. So after the speech, it ends up being a wild orgy anyway? The wheelchair bound chicken drowns and I bet the next episode would have had a small memorial in a newspaper for her. The end

By the way, the chicken in "You- Animal" looks a lot like the chicken from the 1990 Soviet cartoon "His wife is a chicken". And this is not surprising, because Igor Kovalev worked on all these projects. Perhaps, after all the successful projects like "Rugrats" and "Real Monsters" he just wanted to return to the ideas of "His Wife the Chicken", namely anthropomorphic animals living with humans and further promote it, but in the end, the commercial failure of "You Animal" and the subsequent bankruptcy of Clasky Csupo put an end to the further development of this idea. Perhaps if it hadn't been for Bojack Horseman, the idea would have remained in the trash

If only a small portion of his audience can hear it, it's better he knows now rarher than when that small portion starts to grow
