Toothless design in the OG movie inspired and awed me so much that my artstyle was changed fundamentally from there on. It's obviously my favorite movie, and now the money-gobbers are here to add nothing to this, as well as many others having met the same fate. There are people unfortunately suppprting this pointless remake, which is why were not having original, genuinely good stories anymore.

Glad to hear Wild Robot is good though, that one definitely piqued my interest. But yeah...the 'live action' HTTYD has no justification for its existence, I hope it flops, possibly the only views it'll get when it's out of theaters is misclicks because people thought it was the original.

You're entirely correct, in fact not harsh enough. This is the most pointless of all live action remakes so far. Not only is it a shot-for-shot remake (never necessary for anything), but it's a remake of a 3D ANIMATED FILM. The original already had realistic textures and realistic lighting. So this remake is the same thing, but stripped of the amazing art direction that gave the original so much life and personality, aka half the reason for its fucking critical acclaim. Toothless looks nearly identical because studios are too afraid to experiment with animated character designs anymore, if not worse looking because these hacks aren't good creature designers. And Hiccup looks like a Disneyland employee. Every remade shot they're shown has been inferior to the original because they don't understand the intricacies of what made the animation so good. Every decision the artists made in the original was done with intention - that's why the film isn't a perfect adaptation of the book, because they changed things to make for a better story. The remake just looks like they saw the final product and said "let's do that but like a little different". No understanding or care for the art whatsoever. Not the mention the original is only 14 years old! Absolute slop for slop eaters.

@@langadube9611 No but that’s not what I’m saying. I’m talking about how people are getting mad over this movie for no reason. I don’t think you realize how much work it must have taken for them to completely turn the original animated movie into a live action realistic version of the film and then have backlash on it just because people can’t coexist with something that has the exact plot of the original movie.
@langadube96118 сағат бұрын
@ArtsicIcon Look the HTTYD trilogy ended 5 years ago. It's not like something that was made 30 years ago and now it's time for a remake. It's literally just the same movie which makes all the effort the employees put into it more pointless because the best compliment they will ever get is. It looks as good the original. They could literally remaster the original if they wanted to and it would have the exact same effect. And yes people are getting mad because so many and I mean so many new, interesting and even potential great ideas are being ignored, cancelled and put in the shelf just to show the same movie with the same music again. Now if they were gonna actually adapt the HTTYD books then that would be a whole other story. No it's the same movie from 2010. Yes making a movie does take hard work, and time. But this movie was just made as a cash grab and advertisment to the theme park ride HTTYD is getting. Their literally using nostalgia bait.

@@langadube9611 I would still rather them do something like this instead of creating a whole new story I find that the newer movies of this generation haven’t had as much success and that’s mostly because of how they impact the community and how their plot doesn’t make sense. And also there is something that I read in the comments which pointed out an excellent good point even if it means doing a life action remake of Dragon it would not be more relevant to make a more faithful adaptation of the original book to instead of making a realistic copy and paste of the original film because all I know the 2010 Dragon film took a lot of liberty compared to the original book because for an anecdote in the book the vikings do not hunt the dragons on the contrary vikings give little dragons to children when they reach a certain age as a sort of rite of passage to adulthood and in the book the dragons speak it's not animals and the giants and in fact the thing is that the little dragons become bigger and bigger as the story progresses so it wouldn't be more interesting to adapt that to the cinema rather than doing a bit of copy and paste of the 2010 Dragon film in RTX like what Disney did with the Lion King

I wonder if Dean Debois knowing that Dreamworks and Universal Pictures would do it with him or without, made him go for this live-action project so he could make sure it's not shit at least. Well, they used most iconic scenes from the original to promote this movie but people say it's 100% scene-to-scene copy. One does not simply do the live-action HTTYD without the Forbbiden Friendship scene. We will see during the movie premiere how the live-action HTTYD will justify its existence other than Universal Pictures wanting money and promotion for their new theme park. At the bare minimum, they will have to expand threads or add new ones so it is not a copy of the originals. We know they don't have to deal with the obligatory 90 minutes of screen time of the animated movie that's tied directly to studios not believing that kids can maintain attention that long. So, I imagine with an extra 30 minutes or more of screen time, they could have added new plot points, character development that didn't have space for in the animated movie, or the setup for Hidden World, which didn't exist in the franchise until HTTYD3 happened. They could bring up Valka who everyone thinks is dead. However, I don't want them to go for a nihilistic and illogical ending HTTYD3, to be honest. Live-action adaptations prove to be the toughest kind of movies to make. You don't adapt faithfully, close to originals and you get criticism. If you do that, people criticize it as a bland movie copy. You are damned if you do it, damned if you didn't We can have the creators change the source material but we can get a horrible result too. LoTR fans send their regards...

Disney really only made one banger lately and it was Encanto. Which was wonderful. Personally, I’m totally burned out of Disney. I don’t care anymore. How can I invest my time and money, when they can invest in ME? I remember realizing that Disney wasn’t invested in me back when Hannah Montana debuted. At the moment that show launched so many shows died. Kim Possible? Dead. The Emperor’s New School? Dead. American Dragon Jake Long? Dead. The Buzz on Maggie? Dead. The Proud Family? Dead. Its animated line up was demolished over the years and there wasn’t anyway to come back from it. Mind you, Disney has had a few bangers: Amphibia, The Owl House, Phineas and Ferb, and Gravity Falls. But for every 1 amazing animated show, with a team who loves their project there are 15 live action shows that kill the “magic”. On another note, I will say SOME reboots have been fantastic. The 2017 DuckTales was AMAZING and I will praise it to the high heavens. But, DuckTales had a team that was so knowledgeable and passionate.

I think it was a) some project Dean DeBlois wanted to do just because he could, and b)it helps promote the new Isle of Berk land at Universal Orlando. If people REALLY wanted a live action httyd, I wish the directors would come up with their own story set in the universe instead of simply remaking the first film.

Yea the httyd films are also very nostagic for me. I remember especially the second Film, because it was this whole experience where you and the people around you grew up with the first movie and then you are more grown up seeing the second movies in the cinema, talk about with your friends, Watching the series. Playing on the playground at school, pretending you have dragons. I grew up with this franchise. The first two movies are fantastic and the third one is also good (I just wasnt really wowed by it as much as the other Films. Still a good movie though and the Animation is gorgeous) To the thoughts on this live Action remaster, I typed out a comment under another video so I am just gonna copy it here Because I don't wanna type it all out again (because it took a while. I am a slow typer, especially on mobile): "Yea I have the same opinion with the trailer as wirh the photos we got before. Its unnecerary and stupid. The visuals itself are fine, like it doesnt look terrible. My biggest problem is Something that some poeple seem to like , is that based on the trailer so far this, is a shot for shot remake! So many of the scened here are really similar to the animated version. So not only do they tell the same story again (even though this story isnt that old), they don't even make they own spin on how they film the scene. So far there has been nothing gained. they don't really use tha fact that its life Action at all. I bet if they were to Film this Story in Live Action for the First Time, then they would have done scenes differently. But instead its just the same scenes...again...but worse in my opinion.And I do think its fair to directly compare them because they did a shot for shot remake. Dont do that if you don't want to be directly compared. Like the scene where toothless looks up at hiccup when hiccup has the knive over him. In this trailer he is looking at him with big ol eyes. They are playing on toothless cuteness. But in the original animated series, at this excact same scene toothless pupils are slits, showing his animalistic side, that he is threatening but also that he is scared. So again we loose that aspect. Instead toothless is just kinda cute there and playing on pity. And toothless is still cute later in the animted version. So we only lost Something and nothing gained I recognised so many scenes immedietly. Some like that aspect. I don't. Its just the same. I can just watch the animated film again. Also because so much is the same, there is a disconnect for me to the actors. To be clear this is nothing against the actors and this is not about acting abilty because I havnt seen the Film yet and the teaser is not enough to make any kind of judgement. This is how the scenes feel based on the trailer. Like hiccup seems a bit to tall wich of course is not the actors fault. Okay so what I am trying to say is that when looking at some of the scenes without the cgi, it just kinda feels like a weirdly high budget fan film. I think its because they recreate so much of the look of the film without adding anything. It feels like cosplay. Like a fan thingy. Not an official movie. This is just cosplay. We don't gain anything new as far as I can tell. (To be clear cosplay in itself is cool, as a fan thing, but I dislike it in this context, because this is official stuff and I rather have Something new) The thing is in the end if we were to look at the film in a vacuum then its gonna be an alright film. Because they are just doing a shot for shot remake of the original and the visuals itself arent bad or anything. So its gonna be a worse version of httyd 1 but the animated Film is fantastic ,that even a worse version would still be a good Film when looked in a vacuum. But it doesnt exist in a vacuum. The animted version exsists. So it just seems uninspired and kinda insulting to the animted version imo. So I am not gonna watch it unless I hear somewhere that it its not a shot for shot remake but I highly doubt it"

The problem is when you go see the movie, it creates a demand for it and studio heads see it as “why make new movies with new stories and characters when we can just repeat the same thing over and over again”, going to see the movies is the reason why there are so many remakes nowadays and even if they suck as long as they turn profit, they will keep on making them. We are getting bad movies because WE are paying to watch them. If we want to change that, we need to stop giving studios our money.
