An animated book summary of Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ by Daniel Goleman.
★★★ SOCIAL ANXIETY COACHING ★★★
Hey, it's Brandon! On a 60-minute Zoom call, I will help you to stop caring what people think of you.
I will help you to get your social skills to a level where you're enjoying yourself and not constantly second-guessing everything.
In high school I used to be a 'floater' - I'd walk around from group to group, never feeling like I fit in. I was always the quiet one, and I was afraid to talk to women, let alone understand them.
Now I talk to women with ease, dive into public speaking gigs with enthusiasm, vibe with my real friends, and choose to be the one who organizes get-togethers.
My approach is to 'cut to the mustard' and get to the Truth of parts of yourself you are hiding, but only as far as you are willing to go. I will never force you to do or say something you don't want to do.
My number one reason for helping you is to get you to place in yourself where you feel like you are free. You are at ease. Because you are being the authentic you!

What is emotional intelligence?
1:16 - LESSON 1:
The Ventilation Fallacy - Venting When You're Angry Prolongs Your Mood Rather Than End It.
2:46 - LESSON 2:
Don't Ruminate When You're Sad, Distract Yourself Instead.
4:54 - LESSON 3:
The Artful Critique - How To Criticize The Right Way.
6:03 - LESSON 4:
Emotional Contagion - Set The Emotional Tone.
** SUMMARY **
Attention! The word 'depression' in this video simply refers to feelings of sadness and not 'clinical depression'.
In the name of psychology and neuroscience, Daniel Goleman shares his insights on why IQ is not an accurate predictor of how well one does in life. A new metric is called for, one he calls, 'Emotional Intelligence'.
Everyone has the capacity to develop their emotional skills and improve their EQ. This video shows you some examples of ways to cultivate your emotional intelligence so you can put them to work at home, in the workplace, and in your relationships.

Summary: 1. components of EQ: A) self-awareness B) managing emotions C) self motivation D) empathy E) handling relationships 2. Ventilation fallacy: when angry... go for a walk, take deep breaths, and reframe thoughts. 3. Distract yourself when you’re sad (funny movie, sporting event, read a book, exercise, complete small tasks, reframe the situation, help others) 4. Criticism the right way: -Specificity -Offer a solution -Face to face with empathy 5. Emotional contagion: your energy can pass onto others.

I think distracting yourself is not really the way. Rumination is unhealthy, but distracting your can be equally unhealthy. I think what he meant was to choose a different focus...and acceptance and commitment therapy would tell you to simply allow the sadness to be what it is, then turn your attention to what you can do to either change the situation or accept it with equanimity.

The concept of Emotional Intelligence is fascinating! I have seen people changing their lives completely when they realised that this is actually something that we can work on! Not so much on IQ - this is mainly inherited but E Q - by all means!

Some good information here, but I'm not sure distraction is always a good solution, though it would most likely help in the short term. However, if a problem/issue isn't faced and dealt with, it will often simmer away 'under the surface,' possibly leading to health issues down the track.

in crisis situations ( sadness , depression, disappointement) distraction , exercise , fun is only a substitute , placebo effects ; is like to lie to yourself or to run away from the problem . deep wounds do not heal under a mask! emotional contagion means also to manipulate or leave you manipulated .
