Emotional moment chimpanzee mother reunited with her baby

Nurses at Sedgwick County zoo in Kansas captured this video showing the moment chimpanzee mother, Mahale, saw her baby, Kucheza, after two days. She gave birth via emergency C-section after natural labour stopped progressing.

They way the mom rushed the blanket when she realized her baby was in there plus with her baby in her arms rocking with overwhelming emotions. Update: Due to some of the reply comments to my comment. I'm adding this note. Yes, unfortunately, there not so great moms in the world due to their own struggles. However, seeing this video mother embrace her baby even though she didn't natural birth the baby is heartwarming. I guess she made an assumption that it was her baby & luckily took the baby into her arms.

You didn’t see the part before where she comes into the room, they placed the baby there when she was elsewhere. So she just sees a bunched up blanket. It’s not clear at what point she realizes something is in the blanket as it could be before the baby reaches out, that’s when she realized it was her baby as you know. But she didn’t know there was a “dead baby” there it was just something they put in her enclosure when she wasn’t there until she sees it

That poor mom. She doesn't know if she lost the baby, or if they had simply taken her. The realization washing over her that it's not just any baby but hers, her rushing to grab the baby swiftly. They way she held the baby is the same as a mom who thought they'd lost their kid. Shaking, rocking, just overjoyed but relieved. She will never let that baby out of her sight. I wish I could have reached through the screen to hug her.

I guess though, like my daughter said it must have been meant to be because that's where the gorilla was when she went into labor. She wasn't in the wild.

Mother Nature would have caused both the baby and mom to die. When natural birth stops progressing there is a severe complication that, if left untreated, will 9/10 times result in both mother and baby to die

​@@sam04019491Baby Kucheza died the night of Dec. 21-22, apparently from falling or hitting his head. Mother Mahale was found holding him, and did not want to give him up right away.

@@sam04019491 A few weeks after the mom and baby were reunited the keepers found the baby chimp had died. After they were able to do an autopsy they had found the baby chimp died due to trauma to the head. They don't know exactly what happened since it happened off cameras and at night.
