Marilyn just sent us this update: Hello! It has been 2 years since my back surgery.. and here is how I feel...I am still active in the gym and have been able to return to my mountain biking and road riding. I do want to point out that I still have to maintain my core and strength exercises to help out with my posture. One issue that people can get from back fusion is 'Flat Back Syndrome'. This is because your normal curvature of your back is gone due to the rods and screws. I lack Flexion in my back but have very good Extension and can touch my toes. My muscles around my rib cage (obliques) tend to get tight and sore. So it is important that I continue with side and front planks to maintain my strength in this area. I have no nerve pain in my lower back or my legs which is good and can hike and walk with no pain. As for backpacking....I haven't tried strapping on a big pack on my back yet....maybe next year I will give it a whirl. I have reduce my anti-inflammatory drug to a few times a week depending on how much hiking and biking I do. You know I will always have arthritis in my back and that is why I take the drug to reduce the inflammation. So I hope that helps.

Last we heard she was doing great, but we messaged her to ask her to drop in and respond.
