The Rose Bowl is officially recognized as a National Historic Landmark, so they are limited on what they can do with regards to appearance. With regards to UCLA, they should play their games at SoFi Stadium because it's much closer to campus. Playing in an NFL stadium isn't ideal, but there's no room and no money available to build an on-campus stadium at UCLA.

The Forum is going nowhere. It's a world-renowned concert venue now. That was the whole point of the renovation 10 years ago by MSG. Its proximity to SoFi and Intuit are only going to make it a more attractive location for concert events, and that's saying so as it's already routinely hosting major, major artists on consecutive nights every month.

Honestly, your take that the Rose Bowl is even remotely in danger makes every other take you have diminished. There’s not one iota of truth to the Rose Bowl becoming the Cotton Bowl. UCLA issue is losing.
@markb345123 күн бұрын
Your take is so wrong. They play non conference games at noon in September when it’s over 100 degrees at game time. There’s no cover or shade of any kind and there is never a breeze at that time of year. Then comes the drastic and complete opposite by November. They are now playing meaningful conference games at 7:30 at night. The temperature is now in the low 40’s high 30’s with a wind chill coming off the mountains making it feel like it’s in the 20’s. Now factor in that it’s 26 miles from the UCLA campus making it hard for students to attend games. Then factor in how hard it is to get in and out of the stadium because it’s in the middle of a neighborhood and you have the reason for the low attendance. Oh yeah and the Bruins are mediocre on good years.

@marblox930024 күн бұрын

@davidnoticiero672824 күн бұрын
There's a couple of issues at play with the facilities featured in this video, With regards the Rose Bowl, not only is it designated a National Historic Landmark limiting what changes can be made to the structure, the city of Pasadena and the surrounding community (which is extremely affluent and politically well connected), have a cap on how many events per year can be held at the Rose Bowl, aside from something huge like a World Cup or the Olympics, the UCLA football season and the Rose Bowl game take up most of those available events, so you will have the annual 4th of July celebration, a handful of top tier massive concerts or maybe a high profile international soccer match every year, but the city (who owns the facility) isn't going to pour large amounts of money into renovating a stadium that only holds a limited amount of events per year, plus any renovation would interfere with access and use of the park that surrounds the stadium itself, so Pasadena isn't going to limit access, and come out of pocket for a limited schedule and the residents will NEVER approve additional events to be held at the Rose Bowl. The Kia Forum was bought and renovated by MSG as a purely musical venue, it was bought by Steve Balmer the owner of the Clippers when MSG sued Balmer over the placement of his new arena next to the Forum, but that ended when Balmer just purchased the venue outright and as a "theatre in the round" arena it offers a unique experience that is extremely popular and a better alternative to arenas that do not have optimized concert specific acoustics. Yes, they will renovate slightly for the Olympics, but it still has a long useful life ahead of it as a concert venue as part of the Inglewood Entertainment district

I think you're overthinking things... in recent history, California and the cities are NOT playing the public money game much... Oakland showed the hurdles that the state has put in place and SoFi in LA showed that if you want to build it, you are welcome to do so but don't look for government monies... especially if it's baseball/football... Hockey/basketball is nowhere near the $$$ and they seem fine with it.. So I would be really slow in this... The coliseum and Rose Bowl.. college stadiums.. those are notoriously slow to change simply because they can't make threats to leave... and obsolete... To me, a stadium is obsolete when engineers condemn it for safety reasons.. or the turf is so bad you can't play on it.. Who cares if it's not "pretty"... people don't pay $$$$ for pretty.. they pay for the game... and a new stadium only helps revenues for about 1-2 years... then it goes right back to what it was before.. in-line with how good the team performs..
@marblox930024 күн бұрын

Not true. Sacramento Kings, 49ers, Padres, Giants and Lakers all got some public funding to make their stadiums happen. Oakland fans and politicians were inept but they "gave up" on sports.
