My grandma and I used to watch Engelbert and Tom together. We loved them but I loved Engelbert the best. I was heartbroken when we had tickets to one of his concerts, got there, and it had been cancelled for some reason. So sorry about his wife. Hope he recovers.

One of the greatest shows to ever hit the airwaves. And they were actually friends. Dean used to rent Engelbert's Vegas home when he wasn't in town and Dean was. Engelbert says he always knew when Dean had stayed there because of the cigarette burns on the carpet lol!

I have a lot of time for Dean Martin not solely because he was a great performer but because he was honest and fair. Dean Martin said himself that the greatest influence upon his stage persona and style came from Harry Mills of the Mills Brothers. It was one of his greatest joys to invite them to perform on his television variety show. Taking nothing away from Dean, just distributing it fairly.

An absolute power house of a voice.3 1/2 octave range and he could hold a note forever ~ seemingly without effort. The BBC called him the premiere voice of the 20th Century. Search for " Engelbert live in the 80's" I think he was his best then. There are a couple of full concerts: One of them. "Live from the Royal Albert Hall." I wish his Broadway performance at the Minskoff (late 70's ) had been recorded. I had a front row seat. The hall is relatively small, he sang many songs without a mic.
