And people think we won't use math to make fabric! You're using all your skills knowing the machines, knowledge of yarn and knitting and I fully expect that the end result will be lovely. Get well soon and enjoy your holiday. I hope it will be lovely.

going over the whole process of how you are planning to resize the pattern for yourself is great. Thank you for showing this! I want to do this in the future with some vintage patterns I purchased. a separate 3 hour video would be amazing!

Yes! Please upload the entire 3hrs. Some of us love it and it helps us figure out how we can convert handknit to machine knit pattern too.

I must know, is there a pattern somewhere for that gorgeous orange sweater with celtic knots your wearing?? Like i'd be willing to finally learn colorwork for that lol

Floats can be reduced greatly on the Knitting Machine! Every row where you have long floats simply hand the float on one or more needles before you knit next row and voila! Try it on a swatch. Your punch card will repeat evenly across so easy to test and see what works for you picking up the long floats. Also, I'd do a proper swatch in the yarn and pattern insert row markers and stitch markers, treat the swatch as you will launder the sweater and block it. Then measure your 2 gauges. Will save you frustration in the end. Have a Merry Christmas!!!
@rainieraine119222 күн бұрын
I was going to add that maybe a bulky machine is too big for DK yarn at 9mm, maybe try a swatch on mid gauge 6 -7mm or standard gauge 4.5mm
@bonniecolleenpappin880715 күн бұрын
Yes, treat the swatch as you would the finished garment. Then let it rest overnight. Seems drawn out but quicker than pulling out and reknitting.

I applaud ur knowledge and efforts. U do realize you can caption on the screen. This would save u so much time in edit and talking. I❤ur channel. U did a few years ago making wool covers for ur shoes. You went outside to test on a small hill. You didn't slide down. Now I share that info with my friends in snow country. I still ❤ learning from u. I'm concerned (I'm grandmother age) that u r not taking care of yourself correctly. So grandma says, take ur time. Don't push thru life. Live it slowly and deliberately. ❤

I never comment on videos but I found this video so fascinating I just had to say something! I absolutely loved watching your process for translating the pattern and the actual sweater measurements into a machine pattern. I almost cheered when you started using formulas bc I'm an excel girlie and I love solving the little logic puzzles that are formulas. I definitely would watch more of you going through that process, bc I think it would not only be interesting in its own right, but would help me understand the construction of knit garments better so that I could more confidently alter knit patterns and make my own. I really appreciate the insight into your process here and very much enjoyed watching. Thank you and feel better soon!

I've knit a lot with Swish, and I definitely think you should knit to original gauge and block it out! A lot of my sweaters made with swish stretch a lot in blocking, and have a very nice drape afterwards. I'm sure you have already decided, and I can't wait to see how the sweater turns out!

It really motivates me to continute to learn to knit and actually I think I want to start machine knitting too. idk though if I get really good at hand knitting first and learn how to construct garments or if i can just jump in and start machine knitting.

Dame as others, it is great to see the logistic to recalculate the pattern. I’m plus size and I tried to knit the green and white sweater you have and I end up using another sweater pattern that was similar and using the fair ale pattern in order to make mine but I still would like to resize it and try to do the original. Keep with the great work you do and take care of you From a fellow developer/knitter /M

I don't know anything about float management on a knitting machine but I have a store bought colorwork sweater that uses ladder back jacquard method for floats. It's probably a lot of work to implement but looks really neat.
@featherbearkohn885019 күн бұрын
I was going to mention this - I learned to use ladderback jacquard for hand knitting where there are very long floats and it's wonderful! I heard it was originally a machine knitting technique so I wondered how it gets implemented on the machine.
@emilysmith278422 күн бұрын
My store bought colourwork sweater all have double walls so the floats or either contained within the walls so the wall was used to carry the float along the inside. I’ve been curious how they do that.
@christenagervais730322 күн бұрын
Just a note, superwash wool isn't really the best wool to use when knitting colourwork. It doesn't stick together well...(it doesn't blend. I don't know if I'm making myself clear?)

Ooh i really enjoyed the close up look at the back of that sweater and the info on float management - thank you 😁 The original knitter did a fantastic job and its wonderful that we can all learn from her! My heart goes out to you, you really did look poorly in this video and i know it's frustrating to be ill when you are so excited to work on a project. I hope you feel a lot better soon 💚 Its fascinating to me just how much maths is involved in knitting. Its making me even more angry that the prevailing attitude is that ordinary women of the past were not good at maths simply because they were barred from universities, when clearly they were using quite a lot of maths in their day to day lives! And knitting pattern creators were bloody geniuses! ( I mean most of them lol some vintage patterns are awful) I love your passion for both artistry and science. Best of luck with everything 🍀👍
@maureenwilliford898522 күн бұрын
Be careful when adding inches to the pattern because super-wash wool grows a lot after washing and your original sweater was not made of super-wash wool. It’s fascinating listening to you talk about machine knitting although I’m positive it’s something I will never delve into because I did not inherit my accountant father’s math skills nor my mother’s patience with small, fiddly things. Can’t wait to see the swatch you come up with.😊
@gavannapatterns35322 күн бұрын
This is so interesting! But I am a little surprised that you go for superwash, it is after all treated with a type of plastic and doesn't really behave like "real" wool. But it will be very interesting to see the end result here😊. Take care and hope you get a restful holiday!

Great video, I love the puzzling out of a pattern you want to copy! Your sweater has inspired me to do a Nordic type yoke sweater top down in the round (my favourite way to knit a sweater) Why are you not dyeing it with Indigo eh? I am on an Indigo dye mission in the new year and cannot wait!! I actually got an excellent 2nd hand galvanised steel drum, 200 liters for a huge Vat, but have decided to stick to 10 liter buckets to begin with. I want to try all 3 different Vats and see which one I like best before comitting to the huge Vat and I need to know I can look after it to re-use for a long time
