Overall great video, there's just one mistake i noticed... I hate to sound like a know-it-all, but it's important to clarify that these words are NOT homonyms as stated at 0:20, they are in fact homophones; the distinction being, homonyms are words that are spelled the same & can sound alike, but with different meanings, while homophones are spelled differently but still sound the same & have different meanings. The fact that passed & past are spelled differently disqualifies them from being homonyms. An easy way to remember how to distinguish between the two is homonym = same name & homophone = same sound. So the basic principle is, homonyms will always be spelled the same while homophones will always sound the same. Hope this helps!

You did well, thank you. I teach English too so I am familiar with the feeling of being alone in front of a class or audience. As one of my college teachers used to say: if we could, we would take all our friends, family and couple with us to job interviews, classes, lectures, and even to the doctor. Perhaps a couple of acting oratory lessons might come in handy,

Thank you. Question for engVid and follow learners: I came across this sentence in a book "he hurried on past trying not to look" Google translates the same using "past" and "pass"
@ivaverlian3 жыл бұрын
In the past, I don't understand how to differentiate it. But now I passed it from you. 😊
@ethelmini11 жыл бұрын
Emma wants to learn more about participles. Past is a participle of the verb to pass. A verb must always have a subject - something that does the passing. Like John is the subject in "John kicks the ball" In "my headache passed" the subject is "my headache" Past is a participle (noun, or adjective, constructed from a verb), so does not have a subject. If it's used as a noun it will often follow the definite article "the".
