You can play any character you want and if you choose to go for GFE because it is very profitable to cater to gachikoi then you can't be surprised that there is backlash for breaking the immersion. That is why it's important to set clear boundaries with your audience. Plenty of Vtubers are openly in relationships but they also cultivate a different kind of audience and don't give their viewers false expectations. They probably also don't rake in the same amount of money as these two do.

Overall, all parties involved are at fault here. Rushia for her GFE contents knowing that it will cater many gachikois. She should have limited it to some extent as there will be these kind of situations. Mafumafu for his unprofessionalism to which it was said multiple times when it comes to communicating. The fans from both sides making the whole drama much worse for being toxic to each other or even to their idols. Idol culture is scary and toxic as it was already in Japan. But then again, they have their own lives, just so be it and respect them. And yes, it is okay to cry/mad if you are one of the fandeads knowing this situation. You're emotions are valid but let us keep it to a minimum. It's human emotions afterall. But then again, when we are in a emotional distress, we can't think rationally. The more obsessed you are, the more money you pour to your favorite entertainers. Why do you think 1D ended? That's because one of their biggest ship, Larry Stylinson, crashed after Tomlinson became father. It happened slowly instead of abruptly, but as soon as the scandals out, the fanbase slowly woke up from their craze and stopped spending. The more obsessed a fan is, the more he/she spends. When they're gradually(or abruptly) become less obsessed, the less they're keen to spend on that entertainer. And that's why 1D eventually ended, because there's fewer and fewer people spending their money. The company that owned the brand decided to end it before the lessening profits turn into real losses. So even if international commenters(who are not Japanese) made good comments that I wholeheartedly agree with, I don't see them as different. The mouths and fingers say/type supportive words, but in reality their minds are just the same- once the sparkle of magic dust is gone, you're going to leave sooner or later. In fact, the more supportive you are, the less likely you spend money on an entertainer. Even a diehard fan who can accept and become fully supportive will not spend as much as they used to do, as long as their fave turns out to be not single/not pure. In Mafumafu's case, he's actually queer-baiting too, tho he's lucky because in Asia, the fujoshi&fudanshi generally don't consider LGBTQ+ to be real. In fact, usually fujos are shipping for fun, many will also be super disappointed if their fave turns out to be really LGBTQ+ member. But their main problems will be their fans who are obsessed to be their destined lovers, not the fujos who are shipping them for fun(or would be so happy if they realize the ship is real/the person truly LGBTQ+--- these kind of fujos are minority among fujos, male or female).These kind of fans, who deep down truly believe they may have chance to be with their fave, will be super mad as soon as they realize their fave has partner/spouse/lover. As for Rushia- her faults are the facts that she not only obey her company's gimmicks of GFE, she actually nurtured and maintained it to a much more excessive degree compared to other Vtubbers on her company. She's encouraging her fans to be obsessive, and even more. She went to even greater length in order for her fans to spend more and more money, the more the better. That makes her probably the best employee for her company, but the worst for her fans when the scandal broke out. The harder you throw the boomerang, the worst the impact is when it returns to you. She threw the boomerang as hard as her company asked her to- probably even harder than what she's asked to- so now the impact is as hard as her throw. Ofc she should be able to have her normal life- again, I write this easily because I don't invest money at all to her, and not throwing out hundreds or thousands bucks to her- but maybe if you're in the entertainment job, you have to realize that the safest way to do it by retiring first or taking the back seat so the next entertainer can grab the limelight. It will lessen the impact for sure. Gab as much money as you can as single, then retire or become less prominent(or get a job behind the stage- you can be director, song-writer, agent, scene-writer etc) before you start dating. That's going to save you big time from this kind of storms. Yes, ideally you should be able to have it all: staying at the peak of the mountain, be the center of the limelight, and enjoy the best seat, while cultivating your love life. But too bad, it's not going to happen to 99.99999% entertainers in the world. Be realistic, otherwise you'll find yourself in this kind of drama. I'm sorry to write this, but I think her career is over. And yes, even if the non-Japanese fans try hard, it won't make any changes(because international fans are even more niche percentage of the fan base), plus like what I wrote above, the int' fans are not that different from the home base, sooner or later most will leave for their next fave. She's going to be retired, and her company will focus on their next star. Hopefully she can be happy in the future, probably she can try to become voice actor, and lead a happy life with or without Mafumafu.

I personally don't care who or what they do. I don't watch Rushia's streams nor do I listen to Mafumafu's songs. To me, they simply existed as unimportant, expendable details in my life's background. They only came to my attention when this was brought up to me. When I decided to read up on the drama, I thought it was just a huge pile of nothing. But when I found out that they do BFE GFE, it was more than enough for me to consider them utterly despicable. They're literally making a profit out of easily exploitable people. The business model heavily relies on emotionally unstable and/or insecure people donating excessive amounts of money. This apparently is okay to do but for some reason idol culture is bad? Shouldn't both be considered bad? One could also argue they should just CHOOSE not to be what they are. Which is a very naive and one-digit-IQ view of how addiction and dependencies work. Moreso when we're talking about emotional dependence. Much like banks preying on the vulnerable with personal loans with high interest rates. Much like drug dealers don't sell too much to the customer to overdose. You gotta keep the client paying, these fans of theirs are like any other addict. They're the victims of a fucked up business model. Rushia and Mafumafu are more than happy to provide the drug. Rushia and Mafumafu know very well what kind of fanbases they have and they lean hard on it. Any backlash they get is deserved.

Personally, I am not a fan of Rushia or Mafu but I do follow VTuber Idol content through clips and highlights where I often hear and see what happens to most VTuber talents. Companies like these may seem like they're playing with peoples' hearts *but this is what they're taking advantage of.* If you work in such company as an idol and their profits are of great interest to you, you must defend this persona until you graduate/resign. The leak proved that this was bad for them businesswise and imagewise. I hope they excel and endure even under such heavy backlash.
